People seriously glaze over the fact that the hints for Lucien have been there since the first book. He was the only person in Prythian who stood up to Amarantha, he stared Rhysand down and he didn’t back away a single STEP when faced with Rhys, Feyre and the Illyrians together. He’s been giving future High Lord energy since book one but some people just don’t pay attention.

The way haters call Lucien weak with their whole chest will never not be funny to me because the ONE time this man actually knelt and didn’t stand his ground was when he was willing to humiliate himself to protect Feyre and somehow that’s the scene they use against him because he swallowed his pride to protect a friend lmao.

SJM is actually so funny for making Lucien just not give a single fuck it’s this perfect mixture of hot and slightly unhinged 😭 He’s not backing down for anyone even if it costs him an eye jdjdjdj (except Elain 😇💖 he’ll argue with everyone and refuse to be intimidated, but when it comes to Elain he’s perfectly capable of shutting up, giving her space and letting her decide what she wants. The man has ONE exception and it’s only Elain 😭)

So I know most of us think know a blood duel happening is far fetched especially if it’s some kind of “dick measuring fight” because EW 😭 And a lot of us assume Beron is the only man insecure and stupid enough to actually invoke a blood duel anyway which could potentially mean a blood duel between Helion and Beron

HOWEVERRRRR a blood duel between Lucien and Beron would be absolutely ICONIC. Not only because Lucien would be fighting for his mother, but because how fucking poetic would it be for Lucien to finally take down the man who spent centuries belittling him, abusing him, humiliating him and who murdered his first love?

I’ve always said that the only two people I want to see kill Beron are Lucien and LoA so imagine if Lucien gets to be the one who finally frees her from him.

Like think about Lucien’s entire arc. This is a man who has spent his entire life being treated like he is unwanted and never truly belonging anywhere, he was abused by his own father, forced to watch his mother suffer, and then had his first love taken from him because Beron’s cruelty and abuse destroyed yet another part of his life.

And I’m not even sure blood duels are exclusively romantic in nature because I feel like it would be much more SJM’s style to make one about something far deeper than a petty man fight over a woman. We’re assuming it would automatically be Helion vs Beron but what if it’s about a SON fighting for his MOTHER? It wouldn’t just be about a man defeating another man. It would be Lucien reclaiming something that Beron took from both of them.

Orrrrr maybe it’s Beron who challenges Lucien because he thinks he has the upper hand? Since Lucien is Helion’s son, maybe he fights in Helion’s stead or Beron challenges Lucien instead of Helion? I honestly don’t know what the rules would be HOWEVER I still think it’s especially interesting that Lucien still actively hides his Day Court powers. Is he waiting for something? Does he not want Beron to know? Is he hiding from Helion? My bet is that he’s cunning and deliberately keeping a low profile because he knows it gives him an advantage and the upper hand. Because imagine Beron challenging him fully convinced that Lucien has lesser fire powers than him LMAOOOO Beron has spent his entire life underestimating Lucien, so obviously he’d walk into that fight thinking he knows exactly what he’s dealing with.

And then Lucien drops the fucking disguise!!! OH THE REVEAL OF LUCIEN’S DAY COURT POWERS IN A BLOOD DUEL AGAINST BERON WOULD BE SO FUCKING ICONIC 😭

Like imagine Beron thinking he has the advantage because he knows Lucien’s powers 👀👀👀👀👀👀 And this is also why I don’t think we should underestimate all the little crumbs SJM has been dropping about Lucien.

SJM is FAMOUS for her crumbs. Rhysand keeps mentioning the “fox” inside Lucien every once in a while. Cassian has also commented on it. Those comments aren’t being thrown in there because SJM was bored and needed something to write 😭 THOSE ARE CRUMBS!!!!

She keeps reminding us that there is something sharper, more cunning and more dangerous underneath Lucien’s usual demeanor. And then you have all these tiny hints about his power, dominance, instincts and the way other characters perceive him.
Like why are we being repeatedly reminded that there is a “fox” inside this man if we’re not supposed to eventually understand WHAT THAT MEANS?

Like the man Beron spent his entire life abusing being the one who ultimately brings him down??? UGH THATTT would be such a fucking full circle moment for Lucien’s arc 🔥🙌

Dorian’s arc in TOG went from this pretty boy prince who was constantly underestimated and undermined by basically everyone around him, to going through unimaginable pain and trauma and eventually emerging as one of the strongest characters in the entire series. And SJM made his powers SO fucking cool like the way Dorian’s magic developed and the way his power became such an important part of his character was one of my favorite things about his arc. He went from someone people underestimated to literally being the most powerful in the series and I honestly think SJM could be setting Lucien up for something similar! 👀🔥🤭

I always wonder if Elain heard Rhys and Azriel talking about her in the BC and this is why she gave the necklace back. I’ve never thought she’d be angry about “losing” Azriel lol. I feel like she’d be MUCH more angry at both of them for speaking for her and making decisions on her behalf.

Because I always see Elriels saying “Rhys is an asshole for doing that! This is Elain’s choice!” And like… yes. Exactly. It IS Elain’s choice. Which is also why Azriel is an asshole for deciding that she doesn’t want Lucien.

Because Azriel literally decided he was going to be the authority on Elain’s feelings. He decided the “cauldron” was wrong, decided she shouldn’t be with Lucien and decided that he “deserves” to be her mate after an ALMOST kiss. Sir????? 😭 You don’t get to declare yourself her rightful mate ANDDDD override her choice either.

He’s taking away Elain’s agency in essentially the exact same way some fans accuse Rhys and the mating bond of doing. Azriel doesn’t know what Elain wants. He just decided that he knows better than her.

And I DO think Rhys should’ve told Elain everything he told Azriel, or at the very least called Azriel out in front of her. Like Rhys sweetie… ASK HIM ABOUT MOR IN FRONT OF ELAIN PLEASE 😂

But honestly ifffffff Elain heard the “you think you deserve to be her mate” comment? Then I think that could be a HUGE trigger for her.

Because imagine Elain thinking Azriel is this chill quiet guy who isn’t caught up in all the fae bullshit, only to realize that he’s actually just as mate obsessed as every other fae male. 💀💀💀

Like… maybe she thought he was different. And then he basically tells another man that HE deserves to be her mate because he thinks the “cauldron” got her future wrong. Especially because I’ve always thought that what Elriel serves to Elain’s story is this idea of her finally feeling like she has some sense of control and agency AWAY from the Cauldron. And then you have Azriel being like “I’M HER REAL MATE. THE CAULDRON MADE A MISTAKE” 😭😂👹

Like… do you see the irony??? The whole point is Elain reclaiming her ability to choose for herself, only for Azriel to turn around and decide that he knows better than the cauldron, Lucien, Rhys AND Elain herself about who she’s supposed to be with 💀

That’s not exactly the revolutionary feminist moment some people think it is 😭 Which is exactly why I think she returned the necklace.

I think that contrast is going to be SO important for Elain’s story. With Azriel and everybody else believing they can decide what’s best for her while her actual mate potentially being the person who tells her “You are your own person. You get to choose.”

Anyone else clocked how SJM has been superrrrrr cautious about revealing too much about Elain and Lucien, BUT she keeps going out of her way to remind us that they’re BOTH dealing with a fuckton of shit right now??? 👁️

Like she’s being very deliberate about not giving us anything spoilery about them while repeatedly using the SAME language to describe where they are emotionally. They’re both struggling, both in a very low place, and they’re both dealing with a LOT 👀 They’re going through similar emotional states 👀👀👀👀

Especially because SJM is being SO careful about what she actually reveals about Elain and Lucien specifically, BUT she IS making sure we know that they’re both currently struggling and that neither of them is anywhere close to being the finished version of themselves.

And THAT has me *noticing*

She’s establishing a parallel between them by placing them in this very similar transitional and unresolved state. She keeps reminding us that they’re both dealing with their own shit and trauma, that both are still trying to figure out where they belong, and that both are not fully “home” yet!!!

Their current emotional positioning is VERYYYY similar so that repeated framing has me 👁️👁️ Like SJM keeps coming back to the SAME idea hinting that they’ve both got a lot to work through and they’re still far from the people they’re going to become.

I kind of love it because it feels like we’re being shown that their emotional states mirror each other 🤭 you cannot convince me that the repeated parallel is meaningless

I also LOVE when she confirms what our fandom has been saying all along 😭 Like knowing that we’ve been reading Elain and Lucien’s emotional states correctly and that our interpretation of where they are emotionally is actually being validated by the author?? LOUDER PLEASE.

The more she emphasizes how similarly lost, struggling and unfinished they both are, the more I’m convinced she’s setting up Elucien’s story as the best slow burn relationship she has ever written! 🙌❤️‍🔥 They’re both still far from becoming the people they’re meant to be and I just KNOW watching those journeys eventually come together is going to hitttttt the fandom 👀🤭

The way Azriel was completely calm until Cassian mentioned something happening to Gwyn which had his shadows deepening and his siphons gleaming like cobalt fire, and then he started STUTTERING with the “you—we—” 😭 and some people still say the signs aren’t there? Lol sure Jan…

I genuinely have no problem with people having favorite ships or theories, but let’s at least make those theories make sense? Canon Lucien will always respect Elain’s choices than treat her like some prize to be won in a one sided dick measuring contest with Azriel like let’s be serious.

Lucien has literally spent the entire series respecting Elain’s boundaries even when he clearly has feelings for her. He doesn’t corner her, he doesn’t demand her attention, he doesn’t act entitled to her just because they’re mates and he certainly doesn’t treat her like territory that another man needs to fight over. But apparently that’s still not enough proof…

And not to mention Elain literally said she doesn’t want a fight over her because she’s not some child to be fought over. Elain has already made it clear that she would hate being treated like a prize in any pissing contest yet people are romanticizing the exact scenario she would want absolutely nothing to do with. That speaks VOLUMES about which fandom is romanticizing a blood duel she would absolutely hate, which man is apparently treating the situation like some dick measuring contest and which fandom actually understands that Elain’s autonomy matters.

And this is exactly why the blood duel theory is so funny to me because it says WAY more about the people pushing it than it does about Lucien.

They’re projecting an entire behavior onto him that directly contradicts both his characterization AND Elain’s own feelings. You have to ignore both of them to make it work??? 😂😂😂😂

And this is where the TRUE mate distinction becomes really important 👀🥰 We’ve already seen what it looks like when someone genuinely puts their mate before themselves. Rhys, Cassian and Lucien have all had to confront the possibility that their mates might choose someone else, and the lesson has never been “then I’ll kill the other man and take what’s mine” It’s about accepting that their mate is a person with a choice, even when that choice could absolutely destroy them.

And THAT is the real mate energy.

Lucien understands that killing someone Elain cares about wouldn’t just magically make her choose him. It would hurt her. He would have to live with knowing that he caused pain to the woman he loves just because he couldn’t handle not getting what he wanted. Why would a man who actually understands his mate’s feelings ever choose that?

Meanwhile Azriel’s whole blood duel fantasy is literally built around the opposite mindset lol “I want this woman therefore I’m willing to kill someone she cares about to get her” And Elriels think THAT is her real mate? GUYS PLEASE 😭

The “imposter” mate argument keeps getting funnier. Lucien’s willingness to respect Elain’s choice is the ultimate proof that her happiness comes before his own. If Azriel was truly her “true mate” like they keep saying then the idea of him demanding to kill anyone connected to her becomes even more weird because he would knowingly be doing something that could deeply hurt Elain just to satisfy his own wants??

They can call that “protective” “possessive” “romantic” whatever they want. But it isn’t putting Elain first. It’s putting his own ego and wants first.

So when you look at the pattern, Rhys learning to live with the possibility of Feyre choosing Tamlin, Cassian accepting that Nesta has agency to sleep with whoever she wants and Lucien being willing to live with the possibility that Elain may never choose him because she loves Graysen or that she might choose someone else, there’s a VERYYY obvious theme here:

True mates aren’t entitled to their mates ❤️

The person who truly loves their mate understands that their mate’s happiness has to come before their own.

Which makes the weird blood duel fetishizers even more hilarious because it completely misses the point of what SJM has actually shown us about mates 😭

It’s always been “I love you enough to let you choose even if you don’t choose me” 👀🙌

Elain’s true mate is the man who understands that distinction while another man is fantasizing about killing him despite knowing the emotional consequences it would have on Elain… so well... I’ll let everyone connect those dots themselves lol

This is probably one of THEEEE most heartbreaking moments in the books for me and one of the many moments that made me feel like Elucien was always going to be endgame. Because Elain WILL know. There is absolutely no way SJM gives Lucien this deeply personal wound, specifically has him say “Please don’t tell Elain” and then never brings it back when Elain eventually gets her POV 😭

And what makes it even more heartbreaking for me is that Lucien isn’t even worried about himself. He’s worried about ELAIN knowing. He doesn’t want her to know what happened to him, doesn’t want her to look at him differently and probably doesn’t want her pity. Ugh there’s just so much heartbreaking shame and vulnerability packed into that one sentence.

It makes me think about Elain’s future POV SO MUCH because imagine when Elain finally finds out. Imagine Lucien after all this time being terrified that she’ll see him differently and instead she looks at him and understands because she has already experienced having her agency taken from her so she knows what it feels like to have something happen to you against your will and without your consent.

And when she learns what happened to Lucien??? Oh she is going to understand him in a way he probably never expected anyone to 😭💔

And THAT is why I love the possibility of this being something that eventually comes back into their story. Not because Elain needs to “heal” Lucien lol fuckkkkk no but because THAT is the kind of emotional intimacy I want from an Elucien book. Them seeing each other at their most vulnerable. ❤️‍🩹

This specific line has stayed with me for YEARS 🥺 And yes I think Elain is absolutely going to dig Ianthe out of her grave just to kill her again when she finds out!!! 😭🌸🦊

Ever since I saw a spindle and the Stygian spider on the ACOFM cover I’ve been stressing over Elain a LOOOOT!!! Using this “A Fate of Ophelia” Tiktok because it immediately reminded me of Elain 😭🌸 There have been so many theories over the years about Elain being connected to the Sleeping Beauty retelling and potentially being manipulated by Koschei, check out this post for more of the backstory:

Anyways after seeing the Stygian spider with the spindle, I wanted to go back into TOG and do some digging because I found something VERY interesting.

In Tower of Dawn, there’s a very interesting line:
“For the Stygian spiders traded not in material goods, but dreams and wishes.” 👀👀👀👀

If dreams and wishes can be something that is traded then the idea of Elain being manipulated through what she desperately wants* *becomes VERY possible.

Elain wanted to be human again. She wanted her old life back. She wanted things to return to the way they were before the Cauldron. And we know Koschei is associated with bargains, manipulation and getting people to give something up in exchange for what they desire. So what if Koschei promises to give Elain what she wants, but there’s a price she doesn’t understand? Very The Little Mermaid retelling.

And then you have the spindle. A spindle that is famously associated with the Sleeping Beauty who becomes trapped in a state between consciousness and unconsciousness.

What if Koschei can trap Elain through her mind? And what if something she desperately wanted became the very weakness that gave him access to her?

Especially going back to when SJM once said “Elain’s gonna have dreams about ripping ivy out and the ivy creeping through the window to strangle her at night, because let me tell you, the ivy does not want to go.”

Is the ivy simply symbolic of Elain’s trauma? Is it her subconscious trying to process what happened to her? Is it her visions? Or is it something more literal???? a representation of something OR SOMEONE 👀 that has taken root inside her mind and refuses to let her go?

I know the “Elain is the traitor” theories have been coming up more and more lately, and honestly it would make sense that the one person known to be stealthy, quiet and not attract attention could be the traitor because she’s the one person everyone underestimates in the NC.

What if Elain was manipulated like The Little Mermaid into wanting to become human again?

What if Koschei has her trapped inside her own head while everyone around her assumes she’s simply withdrawn and struggling to adjust? 👀👀👀👀

Maybe Koschei has access to Stygian spiders? Maybe Koschei is a Valg? 👀 There’s GOING to be some kind of connection to TOG and it’s so interesting that there’s a Stygian spider on the cover because WHAT IF all of this somehow ties back to the Valg in the end???

Because the Stygian spiders AREEE Valg, and this gets even more interesting when you remember that the ONLYYYY thing that scares the Valg into their pants is FIRE!!!!! And the onlyyy thing that can heal or drive a Valg out of someone’s body is LIGHTTT… and you know who has BOTH of those right? 👀🌸🔥☀️🦊

I’ve been seeing SO much chaos across all the subs and platforms since the covers and blurbs dropped (lol expected I guess) but since I know i’m about to spend the next two months watching people turn every new detail into another ship war when we don’t even have the book yet, I just wanted to touch grass and share my thoughts. This is probably the safest space I could share them in! 💗✨

I genuinely think people are looking at the next ACOTAR book waaaaaaaaaayyyy too narrowly because they’re so focused on ships that every single piece of lore somehow becomes “proof” for one relationship 😭

Likeeeee.. since when does SJM make the romance the entire plot? 💀 The romance is woven into it obviously but there’s always a much bigger fantasy plot happening around it!

Take all the previous ACOTAR books for example, Feyre’s romance was never literally the plot. Nesta’s romance was never the plot either. There were political issues, threats, character arcs, history, worldbuilding, etc. happening at the same time that had nothing to do with the romance.

TOG is another example (and since some people love to drop the whole the “ACOTAR is romantasy and TOG is fantasy” argument but if you actually look at SJM’s books, they’re literally the same thing one just has more detailed sex 😂) Anyway so much of the TOG story was tied to Elena, Brannon, the gods, the Valg, all of that ancient history and unfinished business. Aelin wasn’t the reason any of it existed but she was the person who had to uncover it and solve it. Rowaelin was never the plot, they existed alongside the plot and enriched it.

Same thing with CC. The Asteri, the Dusk Court and the whole lore surrounding them didn’t exist because of Hunt and Bryce’s relationship. Their relationship was happening alongside the bigger story while Bryce was figuring everything out.

Which is why I genuinely don’t understand the theories and assumptions that ACOTAR 6 is supposedly just going to be 400 pages of ship drama ending in some blood duel lmaoooo 😭 Like okay but WHERE IS THE PLOT?? 😂😂😂😂

This is also why I don’t buy the idea that the whole “opera” theme having to be about any ship.

If anything I totally see that theme being connected to Koschei’s backstory, the ancient Valkyries, the Bone Carver, the Weaver, the old gods, wyrdmarks, or whatever ancient mess we’re about to be pulled into.
All the ship fandoms are gonna spend the next two months debating and fighting for their lives over the opera and the “Die Walküre” stuff only for it to end up being backstory for Koschei, the Weaver, or the Bone Carver at the end, because this is how it ALWAYS ends. We’ve literally played these games 400 times before. 💀💀💀

Also the covers keep giving us bones and spiders, and the merch puzzle had a bone, a spindle and wyrdmarks… There is obviously something much bigger being set up here than “who is Elain kissing” and mind you I’m an shipper girlie foreverrrrrr but even I know the plot is going to be way bigger than just any ship being endgame lmao.

And that’s kind of my issue with a lot of the loud Elriel theories in general. It feels like every political conflict, prophecy, side character, piece of mythology and random lore detail gets pulled into the ship until the theory basically becomes “the entire universe exists to get these two together” Like sorry to burst your bubble but… 💀

SJM does not write her books like this. Her characters normally have to solve the riddle. They are never the riddle.

Aelin had to uncover Elena and the Valg’s history. Bryce had to figure out the Asteri. Whoever is central next is probably going to have to uncover whatever the hell is going on with Koschei and all this old Prythian lore.

Will romance be happening at the same time? Obviously lol. But I really do not think the actual fantasy plot is going to be ship drama with Koschei standing in the background waiting for everyone to finish arguing over who Elain ends up with 😂

This is literally how people set themselves up for disappointment btw! They build an entire 40 page case study like it’s confirmed canon. Then when the actual book comes out and that thread ends up having absolutely nothing to do with ships, suddenly SJM “misled” them and they’re disappointed… by a hypothetical speculation based on nothing but their dedication to connecting every single breath SJM takes to a certain ship 👀🤭

At some point you have to go touch grass, remove the shipping glasses and stop turning every page into setup for one ship and ask what the actual story is setting up.

Because right now there are bones, fire, the Weaver, Koschei, the Valkyries, a Stygian spider, an eight pointed star, the old gods, the wyrdmarks, etc. that I can promiseeeee you will not be related to the 500 theories about any romance lmao.

Anyways these next two months are gonna be looooooong, happy hunger games! 😂💗

*disclaimer* I notice that as Eluciens most of us try to connect the ship takes to the bigger plot rather than making the entire plot revolve around our ship like obviously we’re going to look at things and try to see if Elucien is connected to them but most theories are framed within the actual story, the lore, the characters and the larger conflicts being set up. I appreciate how most of us acknowledge that our ship can be part of the bigger overarching plot without somehow being the explanation for every single thing happening in the plot. 🫶

So I read the ACOTAR 6 and 7 blurbs and I have a THEORY!!! 👀🤭

And with SJM’s love for having a multiverse Maasverse… hear me out.

Remember Avengers: Civil War? Bucky becomes the reason everything falls apart. Tony finds out Bucky killed his parents, wants him punished, Steve protects Bucky, and suddenly the Avengers are split into two sides fighting each other.

WHAT IF ACOTAR DOES SOMETHING SIMILAR?! 👀

Notice how SJM has been insisting in ACOSF that Rhysand has been extra cautious and nervous about losing allies? 👀 What if he doesn’t lose his allies because of some outside force… what ifffff because he’s been SO focused on protecting the Night Court from outside threats, everything starts falling apart INSIDE his own house? 😭

Like he’s constantly thinking about wars, alliances and making sure everyone stays on their side… but what if the real danger is that the people closest to him start losing trust in him?

Rhys has spent so much time being afraid that the Night Court will lose its allies…WHAT IF HE ENDS UP LOSING THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE UP THE NIGHT COURT ITSELF? 👀

Not because someone attacks Velaris.
Not because another High Lord declares war.
But because the people inside his own circle fall apart.

THAT would be such a full circle storyline for all the characters!!! 😭🔥

SO NOW BACK TO THE THEORY:

Bucky is Nesta.

Rhys finds out that Nesta gave Bryce the Mask and is FURIOUS with her. He sees it as Nesta betraying the Night Court and putting everyone in Prythian in danger.

So obviously, the Valkyries (Gwyn and Emerie) take Nesta’s side.

Cassian is stuck between Nesta and Rhys, and Azriel could also end up siding with Nesta?? Maybe… 👀

So already the Night Court starts falling apart from the inside.

BUT THEN IT GETS EVEN WORSE 😭

Helion finds out that Feysand knew he was Lucien’s father and kept it from him.

HELION WOULD LOSE IT. I could see the Day Court cutting ties with the Night Court 😭

And Lucien would obviously feel betrayed too, after finding out that Feyre and Rhysand KNEW who his real father was and never told him.

And who could take Lucien’s side?
ERIS 👀

Eris has cared about Lucien in his own complicated way, so I could totally see him standing with Lucien if everything finally blows up.

And obviously Vassa and Jurian would probably take their friend’s side too.

So now the NC is losing the humans as allies as well.

THEN YOU HAVE ELAIN!!! 👀

She has connections to both sides, and she has plenty of reasons to question everything. She could become the wildcard nobody expects… and maybe she sides with Lucien?

WHAT IFFFF after being kept out of everything by the IC for so long, she’s ANGRY that they keep making decisions and hiding secrets from her too? And after always getting left out she decides that SHE is going to choose what she wants to do and who she wants to help.

Then add Mor’s secrets and identity, and suddenly…

You don’t have one united group anymore. YOU HAVE SIDES!!!! 😭

THE NIGHT COURT IS FALLING APART.

And while everyone is busy fighting each other and dealing with their own shit, they don’t notice the REAL threat getting stronger in the background.

It would literally be Avengers: Civil War but make it Prythian. 👀👀👀

So THEN the NC has to deal with all their internal problems, fix their shit, rebuild their alliances and basically have EVERYONE finally come clean about their secrets so they can actually unite and fight the big bad.

AND WHO KNOWS??? 👀

Maybe Koschei opens a gate and brings in villains from the other books??? With SJM’s whole multiverse Maasverse setup I can definitely see her pulling out the ULTIMATE MULTIVERSE CARD and suddenly everyone has to come together to fight for Prythian??

Where they have to travel across Prythian, work together, solve shit together and literally fall in love along the way??? 😭🙌💗🔥

We’ve been saying there’s a possibility of Elain and Lucien being thrown into spending weeks/months TOGETHER, slowly getting to know each other outside of everyone else’s expectations, and then realizing somewhere along the way that they’re falling for each other??? HELLO?????

“Scattered to every corner of Prythian” has me thinking we’re getting the slow burn, forced proximity, road trip across Prythian Elucien!!!!!
