York Marathon (second time around)

Anyone else doing this in 2 weeks time? Did it back in 2021 (delayed from 2020) as a charity fundraiser for Candlelighters. Decided in a merry state on New Years Eve that in my 50th year I’d do it for one more time, with a close friend (subsequently dropped out).

Anyway, back in 2021 all was going well until the IT band issue came up in the right leg, absolute agony and cost 2 miles of around 17 minutes. Finished 5:14. So this time around I’m better prepared, haven’t done the traditional 20 mile long run (it was that that did the injury I never recovered from) so stuck with 18, then 16, 13 and today 10.

Out today and part of my run is the reverse of the last 4 miles of the marathon through Murton, Osbaldwick and Tang Hall. And saw the yellow event road closed signs starting to appear.

Shits getting real as they say. I’d love to break 5 hours in my 50th year and all the training says I should do 4:50. But it’s a lottery and less about fitness and more about the mechanics of the body!

Good luck to anyone joining me in 2 weeks time, I hope the weather is cool but not raining.

Steering wheel restoration - BMW M Sport leather

Feel free to tell me this should belong in r/BMW instead. (2 series M Sport 2019)

I regularly wipe down my steering wheel with a damp microfibre but over time although it stays matt it's started to wear through, so it looks like it's time to investigate steering wheel restoration kits with dyes. (example image from the web attached).

Can anyone recommend a decent matching kit that I can use? Quite handy with DIY detailing so if it involves a bit of light sanding I wouldn't mind.

Research has pointed me to Furniture Clinic and Scratch Doctor products, I'm just concerned it won't be the right shade of black. But the small dye-only pots you can get on Amazon don't have the greatest reviews.

FYI car is currently under a PCP and it's only for my satisfaction to restore the steering wheel. IF I decide to keep it in a couple of years I'd probably replace the entire wheel. Thanks.

Sale suggestion

Only a few days till the latest sale ends, I’m stuck as to whether to take advantage. Currently library includes WCML over Shap, Crewe to Preston, Blackpool Branches, Cornwall Branches, Birmingham City Lines and a rather disappointing Teeside.

Looking at maybe the Riviera or the WCML Euston to MK - I’ve heard good things about that route and would also get the Pendo on sale too….

Any other suggestions or agreement with the above?

Lovely views across York this afternoon

Town may be heaving and not always in a good way, a combination of races, first weekend of half term, bank holiday weekend and the usual hen/stag do’s, but from up here the views are lovely and peaceful.

Guess I don’t have to say where I am…
