HOME ASSISTANT - Yay or Nay?

I’ve gone down a deep rabbit hole regarding Home Assistant. I am a single woman who just bought my own place and I want to monitor electricity output (to use less and know I’m not shitting out of my ass for electricity bills) and also be able to automate and activate things, especially remotely, e.g. aircon/fans, lights, garage door, shutters, blinds/curtains.

Tell me y’all. HOW DOES IT WORK. WHAT DO I NEED TO START BUYING. TELL ME WHAT I MUST DO TO PREPARE. I’m obviously gonna have a sparky install the sparky stuff. But the things on my end and to prepare for that - if that makes sense? Particular switches, light bulbs, aircons, fans, and such that will all be compatible. I haven’t had my house settlement yet so now’s the perfect time to figure out what things I need to look out for when buying electrical components (my house needs a new aircon, lights, switches, new fans, and a garage door at some point that will be done in stages) that will be compatible with Home Assistant when I eventually get Home Assistant installed.

Is it hard? Is it beneficial or too much work? I would love y’all’s help on this. Thank you!

What interest rates are you guys getting?

Final approval pending upcoming settlement with 6.17% atm via CBA. Just curious what everyone else is getting.

Pet insurances that cover pre existing illnesses?

Just got my renewal amount and it’s jumped by 1k because I had a few claims last year for GASTRITIS for my golden retriever. I literally cannot afford this amount but I also cannot afford to have him not have pet insurance.

Does anyone know of any pet insurance providers that will cover specified illnesses - in my case, gastritis? 🥲

Scent of Apartment Lobby in Docklands / Collins St

This is really weird but I was hoping someone could help me. I stayed at an Airbnb at 883 Collins St in Docklands for work weeks ago - the place is bloody mint and has a pool you can use. But oh my GOD the scent when you walk in the lobby is amazing and I need it for my house. It’s niche and smells beautiful.

Does anyone who has been there, or lives there (I’m hoping and praying someone here does) know what the scent is, or can ask one of the workers? I would be very grateful.

Who would you prefer - a female or a male Gynaecologist?

Saw a video saying men shouldn’t be Gynae (or even obstetrics) docs and I wholeheartedly agree due to the intimacy of the role and trust required, and the evidence of violated trust from said doctors in the past. A lot of the comments were saying that they know “many women” who would prefer a male O&G doctor, but I CANNOT believe this whatsoever.

Curious as a woman myself and an ED RN who sees many women requesting female gynae/obstetrics doctors. I cannot find a genuine reason a woman would prefer a male to examine them so intimately.

Bonus points if you get called names relentlessly - “foid”, “moron”, “femcel”, “terf”, you name it. It’s like walking into a preschool, except it’s toddlers with raging teenager hormones, that goon with death grip every day for hours on end and bed/desk rot in their room at their parents’ at the ripe old ages of mid 20s.

It’s genuinely my favourite thing to watch unfold on reddit. Sending them into a rage, as soon as you mention you are a decently attractive woman with sex and relationship success. They’ll probably post about this post, too.

I genuinely can’t believe that they truly believe they get under our skin with their comments and “insults” - like, come on guys, let’s have some creativity and original thoughts, say something genuinely insulting. Try, even. Like, you want what I have, that you will never have because of how deeply rooted you are in this hyperfixated echo chamber blaming women for your problems rather than yourself (news flash - it’s you). I have success in both relationships and sex. Why would I be mad? Why would you get under my skin? What reason would I have to stoop that low? That’s right y’all - none.

They genuinely think their dating problems originate from their looks, height, penis size, social skills, etc., you name it… but this is where they spend their time, so much so that most of them are top 1% commenters/posters. Okay. Sure 🫣
