Hi there, I started posting a meme of Reuben Rabasa in “I Think You Should Leave” saying “Oh Nice” near the end of the 2021 season whenever the Orioles won. I haven’t missed a win since.

Adley debuted in early 2022. It quickly became apparent that he was a huge “I Think You Should Leave” fan. He talked about the show in interviews and did an ESPN promo with like 9 references. I always thought that was a cool coincidence.

Adley’s humor and enthusiasm were a big part of the Orioles playoff runs in 22/23. You know “earlier” than our expected window. There was no pressure and Adley was leading a bunch of kids who’d just made the Bigs. Looking around the stadium his first game, his genuine smile, hugging Felix. It was all infectious and inspiring.

Our O’s lost that enthusiasm somewhere along the way. Adley’s injuries played a part, sure. I personally think it was the result of some dumb analytics from some 30 year old coach, who never played professionally, telling the guys with the talent how to “maximize efficiency.” Or something different but equally jargony and dumb. What ever it was, the results speak for themselves.

Well, now Adley’s gone too. It’s the right time to retire the “Oh Nice” meme. It’s been a good run but we aren’t young and full of humor and enthusiasm anymore. I’ll remain a fan, as I always have been, but it won’t be a nightly thing anymore. I’ll “capital N” never root for Boston but I’ll smile for all of Adley’s big moments.

Anybody have an effective way of getting people to listen that you are over burdened? HR always says to talk to your manager and it’s so important not to burn out. But the tasks and expectations just keep getting piled on. Everyone says they are busy, so it just gets dismissed.

Is there an effective way to get management to realize they really have given you too much?
