I built a free tool to help indie devs find YouTubers for their game

I’ve been working on a side project to help with the "finding creators" grind.

You can paste a Steam link or search by tags to find YouTubers who might be a good fit for your game and have contact info.

I also added a basic way to create a game post and a forum for community feedback. It’s currently in beta (the YouTube API is fighting me a bit), so please let me know what you think. Might add Twitch API one day too!

"Preobremenjena" javna uprava in uradi.

Successfully navigated the Steamworks bureaucracy. I think I’ve earned a nap.

I finally finished all the steps to set up my Steamworks page, and honestly, the process was a bit of a reality check.

I went into this thinking, "Okay, I'll just upload some screenshots, write a description, and hit publish." I didn't realize that before you even get to show off your game, you have to navigate an entire labyrinth of tax forms, company legalities, and platform checklists.

At one point, I was staring at a "Company Name" field thinking, "I’m just a guy in his room, do I really need a company?" It turns out the answer is "sort of, but not really," and the whole process was a bit intimidating. Gotta give props to Steam for having clean UI though. With how much stuff there is, it's one of the best sites I've touched.

I’ve finally got all the checkmarks green and the page is queued up for review, and I’m officially ready to stop filling out paperwork and actually get back to... you know... making the game.

If you’re a fellow solo dev currently staring at the Steamworks checklist and wondering if you're doing it right: you aren't alone. It’s a rite of passage.

What was the most frustrating or confusing part of the Steam setup process for you?

What tools do you use for Steam capsule art and title logos?

Hey!

I’m working on a game and getting ready to design the Steam capsule art and the main title font/logo. What tools or software do you recommend for this? I found steam-capsule-tool by jogamedev which is pretty helpful but would still need a good logo

Combat feel vs Z-axis logic

Hey everyone,

In my top-down game, players can jump (meant for walls). This causes "visual" overlaps where an attack looks like a hit but misses because the height is different. Makes sense right, but it looks bad!

How do I make the height gap more intuitive, so players won't be frustrated and think it "lags"?

I’m considering:

  • Better shadows,
  • Landing circles,
  • making hits land if it overlaps... high ground advantage?

Any advice or games that handle this well? Thanks!

All cosmetics unlocked vs. earning them through playing

Working on a co-op game and trying to decide how to handle cosmetics.

I’m torn between:

  1. Just giving the player everything from the start since they already paid.
  2. Locking them behind an in-game currency/shop (no real money, just earned by playing).

Personally, I hate the grind, maybe a few special items that feel like achievements sounds cool.

Does having to "buy" a skin with in-game credits make it feel like more of a reward, or does it just feel like a chore in a game you already bought?

Purpose of pillar is to block a few projectiles, gonna help out balancing melee and ranged classes. So every player sees you behind one.

Got the idea for bushes from fortnite, going inside one hides you from enemy teams, your teammates will still see you.

I'll work on sprites and animations now but the logic is done, do you like it?

Hello fellow devs!

I’ve been gaming since I was old enough to stand up, and I’m currently a Computer Science & Informatics student. Throughout the years I’ve developed a bit of an obsession with UI/UX and finding exactly where a user’s experience starts to feel "clunky."

I’m looking to do some playtesting for games, websites or apps in exchange for a small fee. To be totally transparent: I’m saving up for the Steam Direct fee to get a store page up for my own game, so every bit helps me get closer to that goal!

What I can do for you:

I’ll give you a detailed, objective breakdown of my experience. I don't just say "this is fun" or "this is bad". I’ll tell you exactly what I liked, what frustrated me as a new user, and where it might be tripping people up.

  • PC & Web: This is my bread and butter.
  • Mobile: I haven't played a ton of mobile games, but I’m down to try them out if you want a fresh pair of eyes. I did develop a few mobile apps and regularly use my phone so the principles should transition nicely!

The feedback: You'll get a full write-up of positive and negative critiques. I try to be as thorough as possible because I know how much work goes into these projects. “Developer Bias” is real, especially for games.

If you’ve got something you need tested, drop a comment! I'm happy to work out a fair price depending on how much time you need me to spend on it. I’m not greedy, 5 bucks (PayPal) sounds reasonable for 30-45 minute session (including analysis).

I’m still kind of new to social media and the stuff I’ve been posting is getting some crazy views. Content is mediocre and shabby as you’d expect from someone barely starting out so it makes me wonder:

Is that common on X? Are there a lot of bots?
