Does anyone know whether the distance-based MSc's at UCL have easier and less competitive entry requirements?
I am currently working at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Geneva and saw that UCL offers a MSc in Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy and the MSc fits perfectly with my work and possible career progressions. The MSc is offered in a distance-based mode which is perfect for me as I am located in Switzerland.
Which watch triggers your 'that's gotta be a fake' radar the most? I know this is stupid but was just wondering (hence shitpost Friday), which watch model raises the most replica suspicion for you if you saw it in the wild?
For me it's either a Submariner Hulk (I've never met anybody with that watch and it's rare, so I'd immediately think the chances are soo low that someone actually has a gen one), or on the other end of the spectrum, a IWC Ingenieur (in green) here too it's so niche that no one would buy this casually, and you'd only go for it over a Rolex if you're a huge watch nerd or a fan of the brand.
Anyone here who did a MBA and experienced no major positive impact on their careers? Basically regreting paying the high fees for the degree.
I got a MBA offer from HSG but honestly 75k CHF is just too expenisve and I heard from a few people that MBAs in Switzerland dont have that impact like in the US (you can basically work in the Army do a MBA and then make a career switch to management positins).
Anyone here who did the HSG MBA and was able to enter MBB in Strategy Consulting? or is this actually not worth the money for the career path.
Has anyone with an MSc in a policy-related field successfully joined MBB? It is not the typical degree they usually look for, so I would be interested to hear about your experiences.
I am currently studying for an MSc in Policymaking at UCL. My initial interest was to combine my sense of responsible ethical behaviour with my work and, therefore, with policymaking. However, I have realized that I am also very interested in general strategy and business administration, and my goal would therefore be to join an MBB firm.
Hi all, I have two offer for my Masters degree:
- UCL in Technology and Engineering or
- University of Bath in Business Analytics
Not sure which one to select I feel like UCL has the stronger brand not elite Uni but still target/semi-target and University of Bath has the better programme fit but not sure if that this uni is even considered for MBB. Anyone has a recommendation?
Hi all, due to private circumstances I probably won't be able to pursue my MSc at LSE in London. Has anyone faced a similar situation and managed to switch to a remote/online, asynchronous study programme? Officially, this option is not offered in any of LSE's MSc programmes.
Hi, I am from Switzerland got accepted to UCL. My main reason to apply at UCL was because they have a MSc which I can do part-time and in an hybrid-mode (few days in London but mainly in Switzerland) and it perfectly fits to my work experience. I was not fully aware and just realised that it is one of the better unis worldwide (8th place).
To boost my ego (I know this is stupid but still) I wanted to ask if is it considered a big achievement in the UK and actually hard to get into UCL?
Hi all, I currently work in IT Governance. Before that I was worked for 2 years in AI Governance. I switched last year to the CISO role because back then open positions in AI Governance were quite rare. Now I got an potential offer for an AI Governance Role but I feel like this field, AI Governance, is quite niche and only relevant until the next disruptive technology will immerse.
Anyone has some suggestions if it smarter to stay in IT Governance because its broader or should I switch to AI Governance again?
Thanks a lot in advance for any tips and insights.
I did the free Executive Assessment Sampler on the GMAC website. It had like 3-4 questions for 1.) reasoning 2.) text comprehension 3.) and finally some quant questions.
One of the quant questions I was not able to answer because I forgot how to do algebra. But overall the test was super easy and I got everything correct.
Is EA from GMAC really on the same level as im the these simulations/free samples?
I got an offer from ETH in Switzerland and UCL in the UK. Both MSc are in engineering and policy but I can‘t decide both are ranked 8th worldwide. Hence I decided to also consider the elite/prestige factor. Would you say UCL is an elite prestigous Uni?
My main thought: When applying for a position with identical profiles and it comes to uni brand recognition would UCL or ETH win.
Anyone financed their MBA independently? I am considering taking a loan, anyone did the same?
Ideally the firm would sponsor it but in my case Im considering doing it by myself so I will able to switch careers.
Hi all,
I'm from Switzerland and have worked 3 years in information security. I recently earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from a small local school. I'm interested in Digital Strategy and came across the MSc in Digital Economies at KCL. I also really enjoy policy-making and tech governance, so the MSc STEaPP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy) at UCL could make sense too. Both are online and can be done remotely, which is great for me because I work and have bills to pay, but it still lets me earn a somehow decent degree. That said, I really can't decide between them.
Which one would you recommend?
Hi all,
I have a BSc in Business Administration and started my career at a Big Four firm, where I worked in IT Risk, Cybersecurity, and IT Audit engagements. After eight years at the Big Four, I recently moved to a smaller bank as a Deputy CISO. On my current career path, the CISO role seems to be the natural ceiling. I currently earn around €125,000 per year, although my salary is somewhat lower than I had hoped because of the current economic environment and the fact that the bank is relatively small.
My motivation for pursuing an MBA is to move away from cybersecurity and information security into more strategy-oriented business roles. My dream has always been to work in management consulting at an MBB firm.
Given that I already have eight years of experience at a Big Four firm and now work as a Deputy CISO, does an MBA still make sense if my goal is to transition into strategy-focused business roles? Or would my experience make such a career change difficult, even with an MBA?
Did anyone do by chance the MBA at HSG (Hochschule St.Gallen) in Switzerland?
I am from Switzerland and worked 6 years at Big4 in Tech Transformation. I now work as a CISO for a smaller firm but actually want a career switch that away from Technology & Security. That is why I am considering to do the part-time MBA at HSG. I mainly plan to stay in Switzerland and would love to move to Strategy Consulting (MBB or in-house).
Would the the part-time MBA from HSG help join MBB in Switzerland or does it have to be fulltime IMD, Insead etc?
I worked 5 years at Big4 in Tech Transformation Consulting in Switzerland and am now planning to start a part-time MBA at HSG (Hochschule St. Gallen local business school).
Anyone has any insights whether it will be possible to jojn MBB with a part-time MBA or does it have to be full-time?
Is anyone here studying the at UCL MSc in Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy (STEaPP)? I’d love to hear about the career prospects.
My goal is to move into consulting, specifically around governance and regulation for emerging technologies. Did anyone go on to join an MBB firm (Quantumblack McKinsey, BCG platinon), a Big Four firm, or something similar? Thanks
