Land’s end, Cornwall

I think Cornwall was one of the most beautiful places i’ve ever been, we went to lands end when the attractions were closed, I was in awe.

As a revert, how do I know if I’m being taken advantage of?

Salam everyone, I hope you are well. I’m going to be honest about my position. I am a white revert in my mid twenties, as is a close friend of mine. Due to our culture, we would need to date someone for a year and get to know them well before considering marriage. Our family’s are not Muslim, so meeting someone is usually online or in person.

Recently my friend has expressed frustration, it feels like every man does not intend to marry us, but instead promise this to get what he wants. Just to be clear, zina is not an option, so often the men will get pushy or angry and eventually give up. (I don’t understand the point of dating a Muslim to commit zina, there are countless women who are okay with this and yet you pick someone who isn’t?) But our frustration comes from how often this occurs, every man we begin to talk to says his intentions are marriage, but a couple of months into getting to know each other it’s clear this isn’t the case. What are the clear signs we should look for early on that a man doesn’t intend to marry you? Getting married quicker really isn’t an option for both of us, even if we wanted too it would cause family issues, and we both believe the right man will be willing to get to know us first. I appreciate any advice you can give us.

As a revert, what should I expect marrying into a Muslim family?

Salam everyone, I’m a F 25 white revert and I’m starting to think about marriage. In my culture marriage isn’t even that common anymore, my siblings have been in 10+ year relationships unmarried with kids, and they don’t see in-laws/family more than 5 times a year.
My preference is to marry a born Muslim, ideally to help me learn more about Islam. But I’m also aware this would be a very large cultural and religious difference than what I’m used to. Revert Muslims, is there anything I should know ahead of looking into marrying a born Muslim? Where will the biggest religious/ cultural differences occur? Could this realistically work out? Thanks in advance for any advice!

As a revert, should I not expect mahr?

As-salamu alaykum!! I’m very new to Islam but I’m future planning and I want to be realistic about what to expect. I’m white British, so mahr isn’t something I have ever thought about. Is it mandatory/ expected in Islam or is it more of a gift? Does it only happen with arranged marriages and not love marriages? Would a fancy engagement ring essentially be my mahr so I shouldn’t expect anything else? Ngl I’d love to get my money up so I’d like an idea of what to ask for and how to approach talking about it 👀

Reverts, when did you know it was time to take the shahada?

As-salamu alaykum. I’m due to move out of my parents house this year and plan on practicing Islam more comfortably and regularly once I have my own space. While I do pray on and off, and I try to partake in fasting during Ramadan when possible, I hesitate to take my shahada questioning if my heart is 100% committed. I do feel doubts sometimes, it just feels like such a large commitment to fully declare yourself a Muslim. How did you know you were ready?

What makes you feel safe as a Muslim woman?

salam alaikum everyone! I’m someone who is slowly reverting to Islam and while my heart has been opened to Islam, I feel as though the world right now is the opposite.

I hate to sound ignorant, I’m a white woman in a very white area, but i’ve never felt scared to openly express myself before. Wearing the hijab and looking ugly isn’t the challenge, it’s the fear of bumping into someone who would be willing to get violent. We’ve had marches, assaults, attacks, and all kinds of horrible things happen to Muslims lately. In a dream world I could wear an abaya and not be looked at like I have two heads. I went to the beach but I couldn’t wear what I wanted to wear, I felt obligated to wear something more revealing and less comfortable.

How do you do it? When I see a hijabi out I admire her so much, there’s so much I know she must have gone through to get to that point. Not only is the hijab test, but also having to deal with the negative reactions of those around you? It’s a whole wrong-if-you-do wrong-if-you-don’t scenario. Muslim women are the easiest to identify, there’s no hiding it. There’s clearly no argument that things are tense right now. How do you feel safe? What can I do to make it easier?

Are there any important dates coming up?

Hello everyone, I posted in here before about how I’m slowly reverting to Islam. I had such a wonderful time during Ramadan and the two Eid’s, I was wondering are there any more significant Islamic dates coming up? It really helps motivate me and keep me on track. I’d love to go to a mosque soon but it feels so much easier when there’s something going on.

Overheating while praying, do I need an outfit change?

Hey everyone, I’m super new to Islam (still praying using an app, aiming for one prayer a day rn) just trying to get a few of the basics down before i officially revert!

We’ve got a heatwave right now and I am sufferinggg. How do you do it?? My old hijab used to slip off my head until a lovely woman brought me a jersey hijab so that’s what I currently use, but now I’m overheating so much I’m feeling dizzy. I feel like there’s an obvious answer I’m just not yet aware of, how do you keep cool while praying? Is there a different hijab/abaya combo I should know about?
