Some follow up challenges and thoughts 2 days in M Sport Pro

The pros

  1. The handling is great, the breaks are responsive, the steering feels great for this kind of car. Not as good as a Macan I test drove but close and that's £20k more. Way better than the Polestar 2 loaner and our iPace.
  2. The HUD works a treat, although sunglasses don't help naturally.
  3. One issue mentioned below aside, it feels well put together.
  4. The ride is decent, but it's not air suspension, so don't expect that level
  5. The seats are nice and comfortable and nicely adjustable.
  6. The cameras for reversing and parking work very well. Next level for me.
  7. We love the colour Ocean Blue Wave
  8. The panoramic display works nicely. I think all car makers will copy it.
  9. The aircon is dealing with some very hot stuff.

It feels like a next gen car.

The cons. Nothing major, but worth noting.

  1. A small panel fell off the side of the drivers seat. Not easy to reconnect so we'll have to take it to the dealer.
  2. My wife and I both had our phones unpaired, after they worked for 2 days. No idea why. We've re-paired, but not sure if it'll stick this time.
  3. The panoramic capability customisability is a little pointless as there aren't any additional widgets that are useful. Also the media widget shows album art or radio channel art, not song or album title. Next to useless. I hope they improve this.
  4. The UWB watch functionality has been hit and miss. I've also had the door handle out, but not operational. This needed me to use the app to reopen the door.
  5. The attention awareness struggles with sunglasses.

Nothing to say on range yet, our journeys have been too short.

New car day

At least my wife seems happy.

First impressions, nice car. Tech is sprawling and comprehensive. The UX could certainly be improved, but there are so many options, it's not an easy job.

Aircon is excellent. Handling feels good. Colour is lovely. The UWB key on the watch and phone is great. Now I need to get an UWB front door lock.

Will post more thoughts later.

John Lewis - Still has old prices

I'm moving from a MBP 16" M1 gen (16/1TB) to a MBA M5 (24/1TB). Mainly because of portability.

Anyway, JL still has the old prices for those in the UK. I always buy from there as you get an automatic 2 year warranty (and 5 on TVs).

MLS on Home Screen

How do I get this farmers league football off my shortcuts?

I doubt anybody outside the US gives a flying fig about it.

Why are there still so few slim travel chargers with a figure of 8/C7 lead and fully USB-C?

I think I’ve reached the point where I’m looking for a charger that apparently only exists in my head!!!

What I want seems pretty simple:

  • Slim / travel-friendly 3 or 4 port all USB-C
  • Detachable IEC C7 / “figure of eight” power lead - makes changing country easy, just pack the lead, flatter than the plug adaptor type
  • Enough power for phone, tablet, and occasional MacBook Pro charging

My current charger is an Anker 543 65W II, still great, but a little low on power and has two a ports and two c.

The nearest thing I’ve found is the Satechi 165W 4-port USB-C charger, but it looks more like a compact desktop brick than a genuinely slim travel charger.

Anyone found/own better?

Switched to Airpods Max as an infrequent user and I am disappointed

The main reason I switched is because I was fed up with the Sony's inability to fast switch between Apple devices. Not Sony's fault, but there we are.

However, my main earphone use is on calls at work, and for that I use my AirPod Pro. I have an external mic, so the rubbish mic on the APP isn't an issue.

As a result, I can go many days without using the Max at all.

I'm sure infrequent users have guessed it. This means that the battery is always drained quite a bit when I do come to use it. No issue with the battery life in use, but standby mode is atrocious compared to the Sony.

Would I still buy them? Probably as the switching became annoying, but the lack of true off is a colossally stupid design decision imo. I'm very disappointed with these phones in my context.

p.s. I always put their bra on.
