Earthquakes in Istanbul - Risk and how to Act?

Hey,

I’m staying in Istanbul for the next 45 days or so and have never been anywhere where earthquakes are reasonably likely, nor have I ever felt one.

I’m aware earthquakes are somewhat common in this part of the world but have recently heard of some great earthquake predicted to hit the city - obviously I’m aware this is incredibly unlikely to hit exactly while I’m here but still.

For one, are those predictions something one should actually be concerned about or is it fearmongering? And secondly, how frequent are smaller, less destructive earthquakes here?

I’m staying in a janky old building in kadiköy (no disrespect I think it’s really sweet but this thing would be the first to fall apart if a strong earthquake hit). If there were to be one in this time, what are you supposed to do if you’re in a building like this? Any tips?

Thanks guys :)

Incredibly grateful for my combo* 🇬🇧🇱🇧🇩🇪 (Passports + other interesting documents)

*Not quite a passport combo but its close

Left: UK Birth Certificate and EU Settled Status
Top Right: Lebanese Civil Extract - Essentially a certificate of citizenship. Can be used to enter Lebanon the same way a passport can.
Bottom Left: 3 German Passports and a UK Pre-Brexit residence permit for EU citizens.
2nd Photo: Map of where I can go.

The story:

UK: Born & Raised, At birth Father was on a time limited visa, mother resident under EU treaty rules which for some reason doesn't count as ordinarily settled, hence no citizenship at birth. Can register but costs £1650 or so. EU Settled Status easily granted Post-Brexit.

Lebanon: Father is Lebanese. No passport because its almost 300€ from abroad and I have no use for it. A unique quirk here is that I was registered under my mothers surname in the UK, which carried over to Germany, but as this is not allowed under Lebanese law my Lebanese documents name me by my father's surname.

Germany: Mothers side are Volga-Germans. Last generation was born in Kazakhstan hence my mother was a USSR citizen at birth. She gained German citizenship around the fall of the USSR through German repatriation programmes, which was passed on to me.

As much of my family only have Lebanese passports I know very well how lucky I am. Thanks to my German passport I have easy access to almost the entire world, the ILR in the UK adds... well, the UK, and makes some BOTs and Crown Dependencies easier to move to, and the Lebanese passport would grant a few extra visa-free countries that would otherwise only be ETA or similar such as Syria, Rwanda, Iran etc. Perhaps the only country I'd have a really hard time visiting is Israel & Palestine as my roots are Shia South Lebanese haha.

Clotted Cream in Nürnberg

Hey,

Danke!

Beginner DJ - Relying a lot on 3 channels, what controller to get?

Hey all,

I’m a beginner and have only been djing with recordbox on my Mac with some hotkeys so far. I have a musical background as I have played guitar for years and done some small production projects so I understand what I’m doing here perhaps more than an average beginner, though my DJ-specific technical skill is obviously still quite low.

I often find myself combining two tracks into one, e.g. bass of a higher energy techno track mixed with vocals from UK Grime or Arabic hip hop sort of stuff. In these instances both become one, and when transitioning to a new track I end up using 3 channels (and rarely 4 if I have one track just doing a thumpy bass sound). Being limited to two would lead to me having to phase out the “additions” before switching over.

Perhaps there’s a better way to do this that I’m missing but if not I am realising I’d need a 4 channel controller. I was planning on getting an FLX4 once I’m certain the interest sticks but now I’m realising I’d need something like a FLX6 at least…. Which is a whole different price bracket.

Would a FLX4 limit me? Am I getting ahead of myself? (As I say my technical skill is still very low). Is there a cleaner way of achieving this sort of thing that I’m unaware of?

Cheers!
