What are we supposed to do with her?

I’ve been cheering her whenever I don’t accidentally skip this part but what is the point of her other than I get gentotsu statues and tickets from her? I unlocked all the other Mate characters before her so I only just unlocked her the other day. Has anyone figured it out?

Sesame on his fossil rock

I went fossil hunting in Lyme Regis a year ago and found two ammonite rocks and now they both reside in my geckos’ tanks. Sesame always looks mighty prehistoric on his!

Leo with MBD never goes under UVB light

Hi folks! I have a leo with MBD and I got a UVB light (Zoomed Reptisun 5.0) for him to help improve his bone density. However, he is NEVER under the light. He stays in his hide on the opposite side of the tank and doesn’t come out until I turn off the lights at night. He never does cryptic basking by sticking a leg or his tail or face out of the hide. If he gets any UV at all it’s maybe a minute percentage that is maybe reflected off a paper towel into his face inside of the hide. I feel like his tremors aren’t improving and I’m worried his MBD is still progressing because of this. He’s fairly active once I turn the lights off, but I’m wondering if I should feed him calcium + vit D more regularly if he’s not getting the full benefit of the light. If anyone has any advice that’d be great! Picture of my Sesame and his spaghetti legs for tax.

Crafting gift for someone with limited hand movement?

Hi crafters! My mother has always been very crafty but currently has limited movement in her hands due to illness. She still does those sets where you fill in pre-made art with little jewels, but I want to get her something she hasn’t tried before for her upcoming birthday. I know it’s probably difficult to do much in the way of arts and crafts with stiff fingers, but I’m also not very knowledgeable. If anyone knows of any crafts a person can do with limited hand mobility I would really appreciate it!

Rhythm gamers?

Hi! I’m an American and living in Tokyo. This may be a long shot, but I absolutely love the sort of rhythm games they have here in the game centers in Japan but have never played WITH anyone before. I always see groups of young Japanese dudes playing together and it looks like a lot of fun. If anyone in the area is interested and would want to play, please reach out!

Reptile (amphibian?) series at the 100 yen store in Japan

They’re currently selling a bunch of adorable reptile-themed socks at a 100 yen store chain in Japan that I thought people might appreciate. As a leopard gecko owner you better believe I bought the leopard gecko one despite needing socks like a hole in the head

The face of someone who has no regrets

I have been having a lot of trouble keeping the cool side of my girl’s tank cool during the day and I had it cracked while I went out for the afternoon. She usually sleeps the entire day in her warm hide so I didn’t think she would even notice and when I got home she was nowhere to be found. She had managed to get out of the 1cm opening I had made, fall a meter onto the trash bag I had luckily had under the tank to throw away her old substrate in, then walk under my bed and set up shop there. She seems to be totally fine other than being cold and she doesn’t even seem slightly ashamed — just laying on my hand to absorb all that mammal heat. My tank cooling fans are in the mail anyway luckily but I’ve learned my lesson to literally never crack the tank door again, jeez. I’ll be keeping an eye on her for any signs that the fall has had any effects 😩 I hope she appreciates that scared the shit out of me 😩

Help with basics?

I’m teaching myself Chunithm at the moment and I don’t have a single other person I know who plays and can’t ask anyone anything.. then I realized Reddit exists! I’m currently working on all the Master 12s and doing the Master 13s of songs that I personally like/am familiar with.. I got 974,000 on this one today and I kept screwing up here and couldn’t really figure out why. What is the intended way I’m supposed to approach this?? Am I supposed to hit it with two fingers of one hand placed more toward the center or use two fingers of both hands? Which fingers should I be using? I think I was trying to get it with one hand I was missing because my fingers weren’t hitting at the same time, so I’m not sure if it’s because of my stubby fingers or if I’m not even supposed to approach it that way. If there’s a tutorial somewhere on YouTube I’ll take that too. Any advice helps!

Shed record

Pepper decided to shed at like 3pm yesterday and I think beat the world record at like 15 minutes total. So proud of her!

Charity case?

I saw a gecko with bad MBD at the pet shop where I get crickets and pointed it out to the guy there and he clearly hadn’t noticed before because he neglects his animals but he was like “well that one’s not for sale anyway”. I suspect he probably killed it after that or something but if I go back and it’s still alive I think I can persuade him to give it to me for free because I think he realized there’s a chance I could report him (I plan to anyway). I don’t currently have a good setup ready for him (I have a smaller transitional tank) and tbh I don’t know yet what kind of quality of life he’d have either way but I sort of want to at least get him out of that situation and get him some vitamin D and then figure it out from there. If he needs to be put down he’d at least have had some kind of attention for once in his life. I know it’s probably better to put it out of mind and we can’t save them all but it bothers me 😩 what would you folks do?

Reptile pet shop neglect

Hi folks, I’m wondering who I could go to to report a pet shop? I’m thinking the consumer affairs center but I’d appreciate if anyone has any other info about this sort of thing.

To give context, I recently bought a leopard gecko from a sort of shitty pet shop because they don’t do reptile rescue in Japan basically at all and because this particular pet shop was the only one where the owner even acknowledged my existence as a foreigner much less actually engaged with me. However, I didn’t realize it at the time because it’s my first time getting any kind of reptile as a pet, but my gecko has metabolic bone disease which is due to poor nutrition and bad living conditions (tank temperature and humidity, etc). I went back yesterday out of curiosity and there’s a gecko there with really advanced MBD so I think this guy just doesn’t supplement with necessary vitamins. He also doesn’t keep them in the right conditions at all (no heat, no substrate), and this wasn’t the case when I went but all their water was dirty and their boxes were full of uncleaned poo. I pointed out that the gecko had MBD and he was like “oh I’m totally giving him the right supplements but Americans sold him to me and they breed them wrong so he can’t absorb vitamin D” (which is funny because a) why buy the badly bred American gecko then? and b) American standards of breeding and care are miles above Japan). There is no genetic condition that prevents a gecko from absorbing vitamin D so he’s just not supplementing his reptiles correctly. I suspect he killed the gecko in question after that since it’s not sellable and is a waste of money 😞

I know Japan doesn’t care about pet shops in general so the idea isn’t to shut down his pet shop and all pet shops or whatever but I do think he’s doing something if not illegal at least worth having some authority look into by doing neglect to the point of permanently disfiguring his animals. Any advice would be appreciated!

Eggs?

Hi folks, my leo has has slightly less energy lately and doesn’t seem to be as hungry lately — not to the extent that I need to be super worried, I think, but I have noticed. I was checking her out though and it looks like her egg areas are particularly pink and I can see it through her skin on both sides. It’s really hard to get a good picture but this is what it’s looking like. Is this something I should be concerned about? Is she just going to reabsorb these or does she lay them? Is there anything I should/shouldn’t be doing? Any advice would be much appreciated!

MBD recovery?

Hi folks! My Pepper came to me with MBD and I’ve seen conflicting info about how much vitamin D I should be giving her. As you can see in the video she is pretty sprightly but her back left leg shakes when she’s stepping slowly (not so much when she’s zooming), so I started worrying that maybe her MBD wasn’t improving (I know that her bones will stay deformed — I mean more like her bone density is improving). I was giving her calcium and D3 once every 2 feedings since I had read that if you give vitamin D to them every feeding they could get vitamin D toxicity. But then I saw something that said an MBD leo should get vitamin D every feeding. If that’s the case, does it mean her bones haven’t been getting any better this whole time? Her back left leg still shakes a little so I’m hoping I haven’t spent the past month not helping her improve her bone density 😩 I did get a UV light but she doesn’t spend more than 5 minutes a day out of her hide so I’m not sure how useful it is, so I’m also wondering if I should keep up the D3. Any advice would be great!

I’m wanting to use sphagnum moss for my girl’s humid hide, but even though I tried to strain out the small bits like.. tens of times, there’s still little pieces like this whenever I touch it. Is this safe? Picture of Pepper for tax.

I upgraded to a 50 gallon tank and had my temperatures aligned to the famous temperature guidance, and I’ve been turning the heat off at night to simulate temperatures in the wild like it’s recommended to do. The problem is, my leopard gecko never uses the basking spot. She sits inside her hides all day, which are only like 26-28 degrees because they’re covered so the ambient temperature doesn’t really reach inside so she never gets the higher levels of heat that it’s my understanding she needs for metabolism. Did anyone else have this problem? Should I make her warm hide reach a basking spot temperature so she can get the higher temps without basking under the light, like she never does, or is max 28 degrees actually okay? She has 5 hides in total all over her tank so there are others of different temperatures to go to as well if she gets too warm. Any help is appreciated!
