AITC for rejecting the new litterbox offering?

I am a most dignified cat lady, grey, 13-ish years, no teeth but can still bite!! I moved in with my human’s offspring permanently this year, and despite her never having lived with a cat - only dogs! - I have trained her somewhat to my satisfaction. This week she did something inexcusable though: she replaced my bathroom. The new box was sitting out for several days and I did inspect it most thoroughly, but didn’t use it, and then, one morning, it was suddenly sitting in the spot where my litterbox normally is! The litter was the same as normal, the spot was the same, it’s bigger and brighter than my previous box with more room for digging, but it was, of course, a completely unjustified replacement.

I have had MY bathroom for at least 8 years and have gouged it to my satisfaction. It smells very strongly of me as I have worked hard on it. This new one smelled like chemicals!

I am a well travelled cat. I have visited here many times through the years. I’ve stayed in many places. I’ve peed on random kitchen trays covered in plastic bags, in storage boxes, in, ugh, SHARED litterboxes with cats I dislike, on “sand” used for drying out a car and so on. But I have decided that I now have higher standards! That life is beyond me! Every day here is exactly the same, I have trained the dog and the new human to fulfill my needs and accompany me as bodyguards outside every morning and have my meals served at set times and is it simply too much to expect that my humble abode should also stay permanent?

To convey my disgust, I didn’t use the bathroom for 12 hours - I even did my poop song once before remembering my stance and running away instead.

The human offspring panicked, cursed that she had thrown out the old litter and the old box, and cursed ME! She said “Semlan, you absolute cloaca, you have pooped on a box lid in this very bathroom many years ago, you can’t tell me this is unusable!”. I simply maintain that I have new standards now and she should have inquired how to replace a litterbox before actually doing it so SHE is the cloaca.

(I have, now, in secret used it while the human was asleep. Somehow she heard and woke up with a flashlight to check and said I was such a good girl but I pretended I had no idea what she was speaking of. The next morning I discovered I could dig so deep I could move the entire box so I might use it again but I’m not sure)

How do I become a cat person after acquiring a cat?

My mom’s elderly cat has lived with me since this spring and I’ve been asked to take her permanently. It seems care has been lackadaisical and a bit chaotic through the years, due to how my mom is. My younger sister has stepped in many times but now mom’s moved next to me instead and immediately left me the cat! We’ve done the difficult parts- major dental work (she has no teeth left) and are doing an allergy investigation that’s going ok and she’s dieted and the vet says she’s an ideal weight now. She is very happy here. I trained her to go outside and that improved our relationship immensely so we can do something together, as she doesn’t want to play. She loves my dog. She accepted the move without issues and doesn’t seem to care when mom visits.

But she’s SO CLINGY. She wants to touch me ALL the time. Cat litter is horrible and dusty, no matter how much I clean. Cat poop smells awful. She’s made holes in all my clothes and furniture and I can’t trim her claws. She constantly goes on the stove when she thinks I can’t see. Do you just get used to all these things that comes with having a cat living with you? I’m still not used to it after 5 months. How do you deal?

AITC for getting accidentally high and perfuming myself?

I am the most beautiful grey lady, Semlan, 13 years young. I stay with my human’s eldest offspring in my vacation home because my human takes care of her mate in hospital. I have trained the offspring well and she now accompanies me to The Outside every evening after I’ve had dinner, but only if I deign to wear a horrible contraption called a harness. I am negotiating this.

I recently discovered this magical green plant that smells AMAZING! I never noticed before but yesterday I rubbed myself ALL over it and did a little taste and then I just felt great! I noticed this spot that smelled very strongly of my dog friend Balder, who lives here, and he is MY dog friend. I rub myself all over him every day so everyone can tell he belongs to me! I decided to rub myself all over the spot on the grass, too, so our scents could mingle and everyone walking past could smell that I also live here. It was beautiful! Rainbows were appearing, dragonflies you could eat flew around, the sun was hot.

Then the offspring said ”oh no, that’s pee! You’re covered in pee!! Why did you do that?”. I paid her no mind and decided to take a nap instead and the offspring sniffed me, probably to scent my important handiwork.

I heard her call my human on the phone and say ”she rolled around in the pee spot, she smells really bad. Can I put her in the shower?”. I was aghast but thankfully my human said ”don’t shower the cat! Maybe use some washcloths”. I kept taking a nap for some time and enjoyed the bliss. Maybe I should do drugs more often?

When the offspring carried me inside (I wanted to stay and nap) she wiped me off with some horrible wet cloths and then i had to clean myself to stop from smelling weird. She said ”that was really gross of you and you’re not sleeping in my bed tonight”. (I did, of course, sleep in the bed anyway.)

Was I really a cloaca, simply enjoying my afternoon in the sun? The dog says not, he says everything should smell like his pee and it was a good choice.

What headphones do you use outside in windy weather?

I didn’t know wind tolerance was an important aspect to me until I bought my most recent earbuds and they’re so horribly bad at it that they make me angry! No matter what I do, they just amplify the wind noise like they’re in transparency mode all the time. I’ve tried different ear tips and different modes but it just persists. I’ve seen that YouTube channel with the guys in the Netherlands who review headphones and checks for wind noise, but they only ever test over ear headphones from what I can gather.

I’ve attempted to google/searched on Reddit and read a bunch of reviews on various sites and I can’t find any information on what earbuds are good in windy environments. Any anecdotal evidence? And please tell me if the microphone is awful and you can’t make phone calls with said earbuds as that would unfortunately make them impossible to use for me.

Relationship advice with my mom: her with chaotic ADHD and me with rigid autism

My mother recently moved into the apartment building behind mine. I was worried about this because we can’t live together and she kicked me out at 18 and the best thing that happened to our relationship was that she’s been a phone call and several hours drive away. Anyway, now she’s 100 meters away since q few months back. And she needs help ALL THE TIME. She is the most disorganized and chaotic person I know but didn’t get an adhd diagnosis until 2 years ago. She’s in her 60’s and just started a new business. She can’t be on meds due to heart issues.

I am fine with helping! But she asks me to go somewhere with her and I’ll call her before leaving, she doesn’t answer, I get there and she’s not there. She calls later and says she forgot. She asks me to come over and help and I tell her I’m coming in 30 mins, then 15 mins, then 5 mins and when I arrive she is doing something else and asks me to leave/wait. She asks me to watch her cat but hasn’t packed anything. She tells me she’s getting a fridge delivered but then forgets, leaves home, has the delivery guy call me and I need to let him in and also empty out the old fridge. She asks me to show her the grocery store but takes 30 minutes putting her shoes on because she’s distracted by her phone. She needs me to show her how to switch my medical equipment so she can help her partner before surgery but forgets and leaves to do something and asks me if I can do it later in the day when she is free (no!!). Etc etc.

I can help but I have massive issues with task switching and when I’m ready to do something I have to do it or I’ll enter a sort of waiting mode, when I’m really upset but can’t do anything while I wait for the task to happen. It’s impossible for my wellbeing to prepare to do a task, be ready, and then be asked to move the task hours later, every week. She cannot communicate when she is late.

I have talked to my mom. I have asked my therapist to help talk to my mom years ago but she forgot batteries for her hearing aids and didn’t hear anything but I doubt it would have helped anyway. We’ve had this discussion countless times. Now I know she has ADHD and understand it’s not totally her fault. My mother says she’s so much better than 30 years ago and it won’t get better than this. She’s incapable of better time management and communication and has improved massively. She’s tried. I get it but I also don’t.

I’ve always solved her problems - she’s been burnt out since I was a child and my dad was an alcoholic and as the eldest daughter I had to take care of things at home. It’s very difficult for me to say ”you’re on your own with this” to her. Can I fix the communication issues or is the only option to stop helping?
