Acquired a Kaweko DIY Sport Glow at the DC Pen Show!

It was the only pen I actively wanted to buy so I was happy to see Vanness had a station to make your own. I'm disappointed the medium nib is very broad, I didn't expect it to be as fine as my Kakuno mediums but I picked it because the test fine nib was scratchy and the test medium nib line width wasn't dramatically bigger.

Glows in the dark nicely though!

PSA: Wear a N95/KN95 mask if you have to go outside today

An P100 respirator is best but a medical respirator is better than nothing. The smoke WILL fuck you up, especially if you have respiratory issues.

Pen + watch, glow-in-the-dark edition

Several days late to the trend but behold: my TWSBI Eco Glow Green with F nib and my mom's old Wenger watch she gifted me over a decade ago after she bought herself something nicer lol.

Quick swatches of new Laka Fruity Glam Tint Shades - 152, 182, 193, 194, 197, 198, 200

Quick swatches of some new (and old) Laka shades:

  • 123 Unsweet Berry (for comparison, I bought this previously)
  • 182 Camelo (I know it's out of order, work with me here)
  • 152 Melo
  • 193 Muero
  • 194 Black Cherry
  • 197 Dawn
  • 198 Gloom
  • 200 The End

Swatched in natural and indoor light, sorry about the exposure on the natural light stain picture, I was running out of daylight. #182 and #193 were warmer on me than I expected and #194 was brighter. Got these in the mail today and haven't seen any swatches of them anywhere so I thought I'd help out.

Strongest staining new tints were #152, #193, #194. Haven't tried any on my lips yet.

Note: I originally bought all of these in the mini sizes but Laka canceled #193, #198, and #200 on me. I'm very cranky about it. I repurchased all three in larger sizes but only because I wasn't spending my own money.

Disclaimer: I bought these from Amazon with a gift card I won from work.

LDS retention rates by gender and age in the United States, taken from a recent BYU study

BYU released a new study about Latter-day Saint Trends in the United States that looked at four data sets on LDS religious behavior in the US. The first graph uses data from the 2025 Spiritual Seismology Survey, the second from the 2024 Pew Religious Landscape Study. Worth noting the confidence interval is smaller on the Spiritual Seismology Survey than the Pew Research survey, likely due to sample sizes.

The study treats disaffiliation with the LDS church as a problem to be solved and Mormonism as something that's good for people but it does have some interesting data. The Salt Lake Tribune has an article about the study too.
