# Bellwright Beginner Guide 2026 — Best Start, Town Building and Combat

Bellwright is a medieval survival crafting game about building a settlement, recruiting followers, and leading a rebellion. You start with nothing and build a town from scratch. Here is how to survive your first days.

First Day Priorities

1. Gather sticks, stones, and plant fibre. Craft basic tools.
2. Build a Campfire and Workbench.
3. Craft a Woodcutter’s Axe, Pickaxe, and Hunting Bow.
4. Kill animals (boars, deer) for meat and hide.
5. Find a suitable settlement location — flat terrain, near water, near forests.

**Do NOT wander into high-level areas.** The bandit camps near the starting zone are level-appropriate. Anything further will kill you.

Recruiting Followers

Followers are the core of Bellwright. They gather resources, craft items, and fight alongside you.

* Recruit from villages after building reputation * Give each follower a job (lumberjack, miner, hunter, etc.) * Supply them with tools * A team of 3-5 followers multiplies your productivity by **10x**

Town Building

Build in layers:

1. **Resource gathering** first (woodcutter, mine)
2. **Processing** next (sawmill, smelter)
3. **Crafting** last (workshop, forge)

Defend your town with walls and watchtowers. Bandits raid periodically. Without walls, you lose everything.

Production Chain Setup

Build your settlement in this order for maximum efficiency:

6	Workshop	Planks, ingots	Advanced tools, weapons
7	Fletcher	Wood, feathers	Bows, arrows
8	Armourer	Leather, ingots	Armour for combat

Each building requires at least one follower assigned to function. Hire more followers before expanding production. A settlement with 5 buildings and 2 followers is a settlement that produces nothing efficiently.

Combat Progression

Threat Level	Enemies	Gear Needed
1-3	Wolves, boars	Wooden weapons, basic armour
4-6	Bandits (small camps)	Copper weapons, leather armour
7-9	Bandits (large camps)	Iron weapons, chainmail
10+	Fortresses, bosses	Steel weapons, plate armour, 5+ followers

Do not attack camps above your threat level. A bandit archer 2 levels above you can one-shot a player in wooden armour. Bring at least one follower per threat level (e.g., 5 followers for a level 5 camp).

Summary

* Gather resources → recruit followers → build production chains * Get 3-5 followers quickly * Wall off your settlement * Do not fight high-level bandits alone
