"Touch up" paint application
Preface: I have no idea what I'm doing.
Trying to repair a nickel-size rust spot on a motorcycle fender. I removed the rust and cleaned slightly past the area down to bare metal. Applied a few coats of primer and now trying to work on the base coat, but I cannot lay it down smoothly with the supplied brushes (obviously), but sanding it smooth after a few coats isn't working because the area is slightly convex and always end up removing too much paint in the center of the area.
Would it be better to use something like a small airbrush to apply the paint instead? Also going to apply clearcoat as well. What's the best way to sand a convex surface to "blend" the layers before polishing etc..?
Like I said, I don't really know what I'm doing and I know it's not going to look perfect but due to the location of the repair, "good enough" is fine and figured I'd give it a go myself.
