[OC] Idols Rest (Underground) [24x37]

>Perhaps the most curious element of the discovery of the buried statue was that no excavation had to happen for this relic to surface. An unfortunate caravaneer lost several of their oxen as the sand collapsed inward into the chasm below, bubbling almost as if the mass of sand were water being put to boil.

>Once notified, The Great Malik demanded it's investigation. As the true excavation went to work, it was found that the head may only be the beginning, the rest buried under subterranean water and sandstone.

>The next few months will be arduous, and I have been given an allotment of workers to begin reinforcing the walls of the cavern, as well as replenishments as they eventually succumb to sand collapses and accidents common with such ventures. I have assured The Great Malik that such sacrifices will be payed back tenfold, as there's no telling what wonders accompany this monolith of old.

Heaven's Eye [23x36]

>The mountain was treacherous. In the absence of a true safe path, the plateau had remained relatively untouched.

>When one made the pilgrimage up the mountainside, scaling the incredibly narrow paths winding through the inclining terrain, such a trip took days. In most cases, only prepared, lightly-burdened folk could make the climb.

>At the top, however, was an oasis in the clouds. At each edge of the plateau, one could see farther than they had ever seen in a lifetime. The clouds rested gently below them, giving credence to the reality of truly being in the sky, one with the gods.

>The forest was bountiful, the streams curiously stocked with fish. After making such a trip, most found it very difficult to leave, yet so few at a time were ever present to greet newcomers. A quirk of Heaven's Eye, surely. After all, such a pristine place could not present anything but wonder and peace.

[OC] Glacial Retreat [20x34]

>As generations passed, the glaciers carved into the earth slowly but surely, as a knife would cut through bread. One such mass of ice had caught the attention of the powers that be, so much that yearly expeditions to the barren Rivers of Ice were warranted.

>History spoke of a cataclysmic Titan, who's fury was stopped only by the heroics of demigods creating an onset of unyielding freeze forming the Rivers of Ice, which for years had laid dormant in its prison. History became myth, and myth became folklore, but all the while the archives of the magus retained such horrific texts that the risk of inaction outweighed the dangerous and expensive endeavors.

>This year, for the first time, the expedition reports made mention of a shadowy figure, still deep within the ice. The surface melts away, slowly bringing the figure into the foreground.

[OC] Fishmarket [22x38]

>"Onward!" The ringleader ordered, quietly but sternly. "Get to the sloop, and stay inconspicuous!"

>As they pushed into the fish market, the roads gave way from the sticky mud to an easier to traverse cobblestone. With cloaks and cart wheels caked in dirt, they pushed on.

>Suddenly, the rear cart froze. The lagging member of the entourage looked back breathlessly at a column of armored guards barreling towards him and his cart full of ill-begotten loot. He failed to notice the ringleader take up his side. Gently, he took the panicked thief's arm and whispered gently "Breathe... Look down. Focus on getting the goods to the dock."

>As the column of guards overtook them, the thieves continued to push on as if they belonged. Their mud-caked cloaks and ragged carts were a camouflage against the truth buried under only a little fabric, the precious statuettes bundled within. As quickly as they had come, the guards passed them by without even a second glance.

>The rattled thief let out a sigh of relief. "I feel faint.." he whispered. "Don't let up just yet," The ringleader replied, helping the cart along. "The sloop is in sight!"

>Then, the worst sound that ever could have fallen on their ears penetrated through the rain and city commotion. "You there... Halt! State your business!" ordered a nearby guard.

>The ringleader barely lifted his cloak for his associates to see the dagger hidden in his belt. "Be ready, and don't hesitate. Push on no matter what happens next!"

[OC] Slums [22x38]

>Dressed in cloaks and under cover of a darkened sky, the thieving agents press their carts containing the figurines covered in hemp and tied fast with rope along the muddied alleys.

>"Quickly now," the ringleader whispered to his entourage. "We have only moments until they notice what we've taken!"

>They pressed forward, equally attempting to rush, but not appear as doing so. The rain beating down against the road caused mud that sucked their boots down nearly to the brims, making the carts to seem nearly impossible to force forward faster than a crawl. Luckily many other peddlers of wares were also caught off-guard by the sudden deluge, struggling to rush their own wagons and carts to the safety of dry storage. The entourage blended in with the herd.

>Without warning horns blared from the Cathedral courtyard, accompanied by the agitated raised voices of what could have only been the City Guard.

>"We've been made!" gasped one of the thieves as he pressed the whole of his body against his cart, trying to coax it through the troublesome muck.

[OC] The Tea Rooms [24x40]

>"In the market district, one particular herb shop runs day and night. Widely renown for its tea, hookah, and its pipe tobacco, it had become a required stop for travelers of any time of day.

>It has been said that Dar'hen's House of Herbal Respite can provide any service needed to any traveller, whether providing a strong tea that reinvigorates the senses and the body, or providing a tincture to help a weary traveller get a good night's rest.

>While much of her clientele payed a pretty coin for her establishment's much-sought-after teas, tinctures, tobacco twists, and shisha, she was known for her generosity in providing the local denizens a quality, however more pedestrian selection at affordable prices."

>The Cathedral, in all its grandeur, stood almost in direct opposition to the slums of the Lower District. The stone and marble architecture towered above all other buildings in the alleyways of which the destitute townsfolk could observe.

What was once created as a beacon of hope for the needy now presented as an icon of discord and envy. The rich and elegant structure separated the Lower District and the "undesirables" from the wealthier districts of the city. In time a perception of being cast aside and tucked away bled through the populace, and such feelings often begets actions to rectify such division, or at least rebel against it. Today is such a day. The precious celestial statues representing the divines have been removed from their pedestals.

It was an easy affair, all things considered. Some coin dropped into the right purses to ward away prying eyes, and a foolproof plan to extract the precious busts to the ports now culminate in the perfect crime against those who have more, to benefit those who have not.
