Let's play-flirt a bit (28F, EU)

Basics to get out of the way:

I'm turning 28 in a couple of week, and living in southern Europe. No plans to relocate in the upcoming years. I am doing a PhD and working at the same time, so I can be extremely busy at times. Brown hair and eyes, on the chubbier side but pretty strong and always on the move. Clothes-wise I lean towards more masc fashion, with a preference for earthy tones and simple fabrics.

My main hobbies are nature photography and hiking, but also a bit of gaming. I started bouldering the past months as well, and I will try scuba diving soon. I love all kinds of festivals/fairs and other events, but also just being out for a coffee and a walk if the weather is nice. I love museums, although sadly there aren't many locally, and the past years I also watch a good amount of theater performances. I have a dog, and I absolutely adore all animals.

I'm pretty anxious by nature, but my friends claim I have a calming aura about me. I'm also quite serious looking, but an absolute gremlin deep down, and very affectionate. A connoisseur of dad jokes that might be a hit or miss, as well.

I prefer texting over video or voice calls, at least for the bulk of long-distance communication. Open to exchanging pictures after some talking, but not right away.

Certainly demisexual and possibly hitting other places of the asexuality spectrum, although specifics are still under investigation. I'm certainly not looking for a crash and burn type of situation.

What I'm looking for:

New connections that will make both sides feel good about themselves. If you want to message me, please be able to keep a conversation going. I'm looking for people between 25-35 and living in the EU, but apart from that I have no strong preferences in appearance or other factors.

I didn't want to post a wall of text, so feel free to ask about other things that could be dealbreakers (religion, children, politics and so on).

In case I sound vaguelly familliar, I have tried this before, and had some nice conversations but nothing that worked longer-term.

See you in my dms?

Buying wine as gift

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in Porto for work, and I absolutely love the city.

A close friend asked me to get them a bottle of wine - since it's so renowed, but I'm not a big alcohol person myself, and I'm unsure where and what to look for. I'd also appreciate not getting scammed at a tourist-y place :']

Would you recommend visiting a cellar or cava shop? Or going to a big grocery store with a good selection and finding something good there?

Any brands/labels you would recommend for someone who wants to taste typical Porto wine?

Thank you in advance!

Issue with exiftoolr package

Hi all.

I am trying to extract a csv with metadata (date, time, coordinates) from a dashcam video (mp4), using exiftoolr.

The code used to extract it is:

exiftoolr::exif_call(args =

c("-api", "largefilesupport=1",

"-@", "-",

"-ee", "-G3", "-globalTimeShift",

"-*GPS*", "-P", "-overwrite_original"),

path = video, "sample.csv")

The output, for each 1 second of video looks like this:

[Doc1] GPS Date/Time : 2024:10:30 06:07:33Z
[Doc1] GPS Latitude : 28231 deg 18' 13.56" N
[Doc1] GPS Longitude : 8421 deg 31' 24.87" E

The main issue is the coordinates. They seem to be in degrees, mins, seconds, but the numbers dont make sense/aren't correct.

Any ideas are more than appreciated, and I'll be happy to give info as needed.

I'd take the question to exiftool.org...but it seems like their server is down.

Admitting asexuality...scares me?

Long post ahead, sorry in advance.

I am approaching 30, happily living with my dog, and pursuing a very intense academic career, while friends left and right are getting married and having babies (and I'm very happy for them!).

After recently breaking up with someone, I am once again trying to figure out where I stand in the asexuality spectrum. Because I always knew I am somewhere there, but never looked too much into it. So I'm just gonna use this post to air my thoughts out, and maybe get some pointers too.

The easy part: I can feel romantic attraction to people, and I would love to have a long-term romantic partner. The hard parts: While I am not sex repulsed (I think?) there has never been a real life situation when I actively wanted, or fully enjoyed it. The best way to describe it is that I like the idea of sex, but the act itself ranges from boring to overwhelming to borderline a chore to me.

Some extra context, for anyone that wants to help connect dots:

  • My longest relationship was with an asexual person. When she came out as such, early on, I accepted it easily, it didn't create any issues between us, and we broke up for irrelevant reasons.
  • In a previous situationship, while I was ocassionally okay with sexual texting/calls/talking about having sex, them expressing how much they wanted me, often and intensely, eventually stressed me so much I ended it.
  • Two years ago, during a celebration when I was drunk with a friend, she asked "So, would you call yourself asexual?" and I replied no. But I am sure she saw the things I don't want to admit to myself.
  • In my most recent relationship, I got incredibly uncomfortable (maybe even scared) when she started talking about "taking the next steps" and how "sex will happen eventually", and talking about my body in a sexual manner. Also for the first time, I found kissing to be kind of boring and icky? In my mind I wanted to kiss her, but every time it happened it was just like a chore.
  • I live with a good friend. She is objectively very attractive. We are both single and pretty affectionate. I find it horrifying how often people ask if we sleep together, and why we haven't, and finding it so weird that it hasn't happened (because we're friends???).
  • I am on SSRIs. While I have lost most of my libido (hormonal-related), it doesn't bother me. In fact, I find the few days per month where I experience libido to be bothersome.

I have friends coming out as asexual to me, and I ensured them (and I truly believe it) that they will live great, fullfilling lives. But for some reason I can't believe this for myself. I keep thinking that I "haven't found the one" or that I have to try harder, which just makes me miserable. I aknowledge that my platonic friendships are incredibly important to me, and the affection we show to each other fullfills me. I am in no way lonely, and I do love sourrounding myself with people.

The best way to describe my thoughts on sex is that it's good on paper (and fanfiction), but I can't think of a realistic scenario where I will fully enjoy it for myself.

So I don't understand why I am not yet ready to embrace that part of me, that is, very obviously, asexual. I don't know if it's internal, or social pressure, or a secret, third thing. I do know that it feels scary.

So you know, any input, tips, friendly chat, welcome.

F-ed around and found out: dating a stranger

I (28F) have known I'm demisexual for a really long time. Supporting evidence being the continuous crushes on friends, generally having very low libido, and being uninterested in anyone who wasn't close to me, even if they had traits I liked.

Anyhow, as I'm approaching my 30s and people all around me are getting married and starting famillies, I decided to give dating a go. Just to kinda say I tried it, at least, you know? Went on some decent dates, nothing horrible, but nothing interesting enough to meet again either.

Then I met someone who (in theory) ticked all the boxes. Physically attractive, my age, seemed to have her shit together, steady job, car, lived nearby. I was actually willing to give dating her a go.

I made it clear that I wanted to get to know her, and needed to take it slow. I was very honest about my low libido (plus SSRI meds), and she told me she was demi too, and fully understood.

Then the issues started. Pushing for more physical touch. Whining when I would express I didn't want to be touched a specific way, or that it was too soon. Basically telling me that we should be doing the "normal" relationship things.

I didn't feel like she actually wanted to be my friend/really get to know me, at all. When she would get whiny, or wanted too much eventually, my mind just went "you dont know this person enough for them to ask you of these things". At some point I told her I couldn't meet because I already had plans with a friend, and she expressed she should be a priority. I literally replied "I've known my friend for a decade, and you for only two months".

I started feeling very overwhelmed and pressured, and like she wouldn't respect my boundaries and wishes, citing being "normal". Long story short, I broke it off and learnt some lessons.

The whole thing has me thinks a lot. Are people genuinely so fast to get into relationships with someone they didn't know? Do they not get uncomfortable, or do they just ignore it for the sake of being in a relationship? Will I be happy living by myself, or with a platonic friend long term, and is my wish for a relationship more of a social pressure than a personal need? Who knows.

Metadata extraction from video

Hi everyone.

I'm working on a project, and have a bit of a weird task I can't seem to figure out: I have videos with metadata (coordinates are the important part), which i want to turn into images (1 frame per second), and then add metadata to each image.

So far, using packages "av" and "exiftoolr" I manage to create a file with images for every video, and a csv with metadata per second, but I am stuck on how to combine them.

Any brainstorming or pointers more than welcome!

This is your sign: stop being the lesbian sheep!

Do you know of the lesbian sheep theory? To sum it up, researchers (anecdotally) recorded homosexual behaviour in male sheep, but wouldn't see the same in females, until they realised female sheep who wanted to mate with each other would just freeze and stare without making any move.

I have been seeing this girl, and she has been VERY clear about liking me romantically. Still, I would second guess myself at all times, and stop from progressing further emotionally or physically, only to regret it afterwards.

Then yesterday, a miracle happened. We were saying goodbye, and I really wanted to kiss her, but couldn't find the words to ask. Then my brain went "stop being the lesbian sheep goddamn!". And I just asked her. And yes, we kissed.

So if you're struggling, this is your sign and I'm rooting for you!!! Get consent and go for it, because life's too short to not kiss girls!!
