Roots!

I’ve had my snake plant for over 3 years and haven’t repotted it, should I wait until spring? The soil has become a bit hydrophobic but responded well to being bottom watered

When to repot?

I inherited this jade and was totally clueless, and placed it in a cold, north facing window. Over time I noticed that whenever I watered it, water would run out into the tray immediately. I searched online and learned that the soil had become hydrophobic and on Saturday I soaked the pot for about 30 minutes, poking some holes in the topsoil beforehand and the leaves are beginning to re-plump for the most part.

I don’t think it’s ever been repotted, should I wait until the spring, or would I be ok to repot it again in a week or two? I’ve bought a soil mix for succulents and a terracotta pot that’s slightly bigger just in case. Likewise, should I wait until the spring to prune?

Palm help

I’m not sure whether this is an Areca or parlour palm, I’d like your verdict! I took this photo last week as I learned I it wasn’t a good idea to have it in a south facing window, and there were many other mistakes that Google tells me I’ve been making including Baby Bio last year and not watering sufficiently.

I’ve since placed it near a bay window that is north facing but gets sun rays from the NE and west, along with some other plants. I’ve pruned much of the brown leaves too.

What I want to know is if I should repot it, I’ve learned it’s rootbound, it’s been in the nursery pot since I got it as a gift in early 2024. Should I wait until spring, or do it when it’s next due for watering? I watered it thoroughly last Thursday and drained it before putting it back in the pot (I’m learning!)

Looking for a locum agency

I can't get bank shifts in my current trust due to cutbacks, so I'm looking at locum weekend posts as an AHP. Can anyone recommend good locum agencies please, or ones to avoid?

First dose of Plenvu complete, EGADS

As my hospital letter instructed, I had my first dose of Plenvu from 4pm, small sips over 60 minutes. I felt absolutely fine until like two minutes after I finished the solution when the eruption with the force of Mt Etna began.

Reader, I must've stayed on the loo for the best part of an hour. I'd flush, wash my hands and as SOON as they were dry, the rumble began again and it was time to go, I hadn't even eaten that much food today, two slices of toast and scrambled eggs for breakfast, and a couple of slices of toast again for a light lunch.

My instructions say I should have dose 2 at 6am, and both sachets to be mixed into 500mls, I'm not looking forward to that texture at all, it sounds like it'll be like Solvite in a jug. I'll be surprised if there's any more content to be coerced out of my gut, but let's see how it goes.

Good luck to anyone else prepping for tomorrow!

UPDATE: Colonoscopy done, I've got the all-clear 😄

I need encouraging examples of perimenopausal/postmenopausal weight loss please

I’m genuinely in a calorie deficit and lift weights at the gym 3 days per week but haven’t lost any weight - on the bright side I haven’t gained any either 😄

Lost 50lbs in 2022 to 2024, maintained it well last year but gained 10-12lbs this year and I’m struggling to lose that (I’d like to lose 20lbs ideally).

I’m 50 and perimenopausal and am wondering if this is why I’m now struggling to lost the pounds when it was much easier previously, even in my forties - I’ve spoken to my GP and will have a blood test for my thyroid etc but in the meantime, I’d like to hear from women who have successfully lost and maintained weight loss in their 50s please!

I’m 50F, 175cm (5’9”) and weigh 176lbs. I’d like to lose a minimum of 10lbs, ideally 20lbs.

According to a TDEE calculator, my maintenance calories while sedentary is 1779 calories per day. A couple of years ago, I lost over 20lbs while eating around 1800, working out 3-4 days a week and walking around 12k to 14k steps per day due to my job. Now I’ve got more of a desk job but I’ve started trying to get back to 10k steps then increase that, and I do strength training 3 days a week. What should my calorie goal be?
