Aside from not feeding revenge, i’d like a few tips that an average player could use to step up his gameplay!
What characters are a carry-all, rotations, general tips.
Thank you!
Pretty much title I’m slowly getting insane
I know Rasputin Set is very good for stasis, but what other sets (4 pieces or 2+2s) are the best in slot for common builds? Like Arc Titan etc.
With Reg M-B live and Mega Staraptor (Fighting/Flying + Contrary) shaping up to be a real offensive threat, I've been theorycrafting around its ideal support partner and keep going back and forth between Grimmsnarl and Whimsicott. Wanted to get the community's early read.
The context that matters here is open teamsheet, best-of-3. Everything is visible at preview, so "surprise" value is basically zero and what counts is how the partnership holds up once the opponent knows exactly what's coming.
The case for Whimsicott
On paper Whimsi-Staraptor looks borderline broken. Whimsicott brings Tailwind for speed control, and more importantly Charm, which against Contrary Staraptor becomes a +2 Attack boost instead of a debuff. Stack that with Close Combat (Contrary turns the drops into +1 Def/+1 SpDef each use) and you've got a sweeper that gets bulkier and stronger the longer it stays in. The set is well established at this point: Moonblast / Tailwind / Protect, and if you're pairing it with Staraptor you'd run Charm over Encore.
The case for Grimmsnarl
The longer I look at it, though, the more Whimsi feels like a gimmick compared to Grimmsnarl. In open teamsheet BO3, dual screens look stronger than Tailwind for raw survivability against the things that actually threaten this archetype: Floette, Sylveon, Mega Froslass.
Whimsicott does nothing to make Staraptor survive a Fairy hit; screens at least buy the turns you need to set up and swing. Grimmsnarl's competitive moveset is pretty defined: dual screens, Spirit Break, and a flex slot among Scary Face, Fake Out, or Parting Shot (which, again, is a +1 boost on Contrary).
Where it falls apart
Here's my hesitation with the Whimsicott line specifically: Mega Froslass eats the Whimsicott-Staraptor duo alive. Ice hits Staraptor for 2x and Whimsi (Grass/Fairy) is also Ice-weak, so a single Froslass Blizzard blows up the whole plan. Grimmsnarl at least doesn't fold to the same matchup, and moreover, brings more benefits on a wide matchup spread.
So I'm torn between the "broken on paper" Charm engine and the more honest, survivability-first screens approach.
What are your early thoughts? Is the +2 Charm payoff worth the fragility, or does Grimmsnarl's consistency win out in a BO3 open-sheet meta?
