Do you mourn the loss of fansubs (cheesy or otherwise)?

Nowadays I mostly read manga rather than watch anime, but when I was a teen and didn't really know english (most mangas were translated from eng to my language, rather than directly from the japanese, so it was usually very far behind) all I had avaliable to me were anime episodes translated by random fans and uploaded to the pirate websites.

But I can't help but noticing that those I do watch mostly just use the official crunchyroll sub, which I do admit is probably much easier and has less delay, but boy sometimes it's outright wrong or just doesn't express a certain culture very well. Yes, it has eliminated the "all according to keikaku" type of thing late 2000's translators had going on, but it also glosses over honorifcs that many times are very important cues on the relationship between the characters, traditional dish names that sometimes make the food unrecognizable (recently i've come across nikuman being referred to as meat bread, which IS correct but would you really think of steamed nikumans by reading that description?) and has outright bias by omission.

It has me thinking that many of the new watchers will never come in contact with the now almost deceased "otaku" culture (even I haven't heard this in a while, and middle schooler me had a massive "otaku girl UwU button pin in my backpack), and it kind of makes me a little wistful for that feeling — even the badly translated stuff used to be extra fun and took chuckles out of me, plus the subtitles who were always colored for some reason. So, if you've been watching anime/consuming japanese media long enough to have gotten that era, do you miss it?

Would you say all the classicvanias are worth a try?

I’ve been a fan of this franchise ever since I watched the netflix series while on quarantine, and then decided to get into the games as I waited for the new seasons.
I bought both collections available at the time and played SOTN on the mobile version , and honestly, and I finished the advance collection multiple times (yes, even circle of the moon 😔).
However,I’m ashamed to say I never played any other classicvania besides the OG (finished with multiple switch saves), CV 3 (rage quit bc of Dracula and haven’t touched it in 3 years) and Dracula X, mostly because the others have such a terrible reputation I didn’t even think they were worth experiencing for myself. But as I am now hyped waiting for Belmont’s curse, but currently starved of content, I’m wondering if giving it a try might not be such a bad thing? I’m skeptical though, since I do expect haunted castle levels of bad from titles such as Simons Curse, Adventure and Belmont’s revenge, and with a little more effort and slightly less convenience I could maybe emulate the more well beloved games I haven’t tried yet, like Rondo, Castlevania Chronicles, Dracula X Chronicles, Lament and the japanese version of 3,(which I don’t really like to do, since in my head buying the titles we have officially might stimulate Konami to actually release them like with the collections). What do you guys think? Is every older game worth visiting at least once?

How viable is Durincole overload for keqing?

This last banner I got both Durin and Nicole (and her sig) as I was really their kind of core support in my account, since I'm pretty new and my only good team was Zibai's. The thing is I don't really have a main dps for them... I could use dark Durin, i suppose, but then I don't know with who i'd do that. And then it came to me that i could maybe try Overload keqing? I got c1 chevreuse while wishing in the weapon banner, and c6 fischl, and I was wondering how well that would work.

I am aware Keqing's best team comp is aggravate, but honestly this one seems pretty fun! The dps is really funky rn, at 20k I think, but how much better would it reach? I unfortunately can't get mavuika to slot her in rn, because I'm saving for bina.

How would you like it if Koitar made an appearance in Snezhnaya?

I’ve been thinking a lot about where the story could be headed, and what truly is the reasoning behind the Tsaritsa’s plan to overthrow the HP and what was her turning point — yes, it had something to do with the cataclysm and the already established yearn for utopia she probably shared with the late Tsar, but most of the other Archons lost something to the HP or in Khaenri’ah, but she is the only one who rose up in clear rebellion against them with the intention of dismantling the system (though Focalors also gave the heavenly frauds a major hit).

It, along with me exploring more key parts of Nod-Krai and with Nicole’s latest trailer and character stories, couldn’t help but remind me of Koitar.

I mean, she instructed the Hyperboreans on how to create the fae, hoping they would create a perfect being (how? And most importantly, why did she want that? Were human and gods not enough, did she strive for a being perfect in the sense of intellectual prowess the Hyperboreans seeked, or something devoid of the arrogance and disdain towards the weak of the HP and the dragons?) , and the Tsaritsa herself is a fae who shares at least Koitar’s indignity with the heavenly principles. We know very little about them both, so that’s as far as the connection goes for now, but not only is Koitar still alive, she is probably somewhere in Snezhnaya, since thats where the ruins of Ancient Hyperborea are probably located.

She could very much appear in the story, or maybe be at least acknowledged. Does she know about the fatui, and if so what does she think of them? The parallels between Snezhnaya and Hyperborea are pretty clear to me at least, and it makes me wonder if the influence is biological (like, are the fae such as the Belyi tsar and Anastasia influenced by instinct to seek the paradise Koitar, Seutervoinen and the hyperboreans wished), direct (as in her directly intervening and having met with the Tsaritsa or the tsar at some point), a “i look up to certain aspects of that society and will try to replicate it” thing, or just coincidences due to both being in direct conflict with the divine will?

Anyways, what do you all think?

Any recs for your favorite xianxia novels?

So, while I am far from unfamiliar with chinese novels, I always tended to stick with BLs and female-centered works, but I always truly loved the xianxia subgenre. Something about the search for immortality, the grand ambients of the sects and the dignified immortals always resonated with me way more than Wuxia and xuanhuan (which I honestly never actually liked much).

The problem is that after 6 years of reading just that, I’ve pretty much exhausted the selection of (good) novels to read in my usual genres, and while I tried to dabble into the releasing ones, they’re too sloppy, think boring golden fingers, braindead characters, the author is clearly just doing everything that’s popular in china rn all at once (which unfortunately is the whole “oh no, i transmigrated/was reborn as cannonfodder and tried to be discreet but everyone loves me now cause im such a different white lotus than my old villainous self) so i decided to try and read regular Xianxia, and an now asking for recommendations.

I already read Reverend Insanity in its entirety, and loved it a lot, the Gu system strays very far from the traditional cultivation methods and it was SO refreshing, and Fang Yuan was a very far cry from what I expected. I would really appreciate any other recommendations!

I have been using lose it on and off for about 4 years now, mostly to lose small amounts of weight for specific occasions, and in my opinion it is the best “free” calorie counting app. However, barcode scanning was always free for me, which was the thing i loved most as it saves tons of time. Now, i opened the app to use it for a new diet period and it said it’s now a premium feature. When did this change happen? Is there some sort of sale where i can get the premium without spending too much? I’d happily pay for lifetime if so, but only the yearly is available in my app for some reason, which is just not worth it for me considering the big stretches of time in which I don’t use the app at all
