Remove tub spout?

Having trouble removing this spout. I assume it's just threaded on, but im about to break the 'bracketing system' if I twist any harder. Any thoughts?

We dont want to redo the ceiling since its fine, but in what state do you leave the ceiling if we're installing goboard on the walls?
