Some questions about Proton/Simple Login and Bitwarden Aliases...

Thanks again for all the help I've had here, I think I'm nearly there! I have a few questions about aliases with Simple Login and Bitwarden.

- I have a custom domain setup in Simple Login, I'd like to create Aliases in that for random websites. I can do this in Simple login no issue. But when I go to Username generator in Bitwarden, put in the API Key, put my custom email domain, then when I generate a username, its some random words and then @simplelogin.com and what I want is amazon@mycustomdomain.com for example. Is this possible?

- Maybe this is a limitation and I just have to create aliases in Simplelogin and copy and paste them into Bitwarden every time?

- Secondly, I can use my Proton login to log in to Simple Login, but it also offers me the option for 2fa. Do I need to add 2fa to Simplelogin if I have it enabled for proton?

Thanks

Can't help breathing out when I wipe out!

I've always spent a lot of time in the water, mostly swimming. I took up surfing last year and realised that for some reason as soon as I go underwater I breathe out a steady stream of air.

I know I do this when swimming, and I think often to stop water coming into my nose

But it got me in a couple of scary situations with surfing where I was out of breath and held under.

The issue is, I can't seem to change it! I'm conscious of it and think of it every time and yet I keep doing it!

Any tips for retaining this weird habit?

Thanks

Is my security/convenience plan right? Any tips...

After some useful advice here, I have paid for Proton Unlimited. I am still trying to get my head around custom domains and aliases/hide my emails etc! After reading endless threads, this is my plan, and just a wanted to check its ok. I'm trying to get a balance of security, anonymity and convenience.

- I use my custom domain with my full name in (for my website), to create a few email addresses for personal, work/professional and possibly banks and government etc.

- Then I either use aliases/hide my email with my Proton address (random name), or I buy another custom domain which is random words, and use this instead for alias/hide my emails, making moving away from Proton in the future easier, but costing a bit more. I can't decide!

- I'd use Alias/hide my email for all unimportant sign ups. But what about things like Amazon, or places where I regularly buy things like music software sites. Should I use aliases/hide my email for this, or should I use one of my proper emails with my name in?

- I will continue to use Ente Auth for 2fa as I want my 2fa seperate

- I currently use Bitwarden as my password manager. I would move to Proton pass, as it seems it makes it much easier to create email aliases on the fly. But...the main issue I have is the password being the same as my Proton password. Currently I remember two very long passwords, one for Bitwarden and one for Ente Auth. But I don't want to have my email be the same password as my password manager. Not only that, but I have Bitwarden setup so it locks me out after a few minutes, and I must enter my password every time I want to use it - this keeps it fresh and means I enter the password many times a day. From what I've read I can't do this in Proton Pass, I can only enable a second password. So unless anyone knows a solution to my concerns here, I guess I'll stick with Bitwarden and somehow deal with the aliases

Any other advice welcome, I've spent so long reading about this stuff, its time to just get on with it!

Why so many stars/locations on Surf Forecast?

I'm relatively new to surfing especially in the UK. I'm trying to understand the Surf Forecast app and UK locations better.

They have so many stars/breaks, but when I research a particular one that's more obscure, it seems it's not a very good spot or might only get waves in mid winter when the stars align!

I'm just wondering why they are on there? It makes it look like there's an almost infinite number of breaks, but this doesn't seem to be true when you dona bit of a research

Am I missing something? Thanks

Wanting to move to Proton - I have questions and concerns...

Hi, I want to change email as mine is very old and gets a lot of spam. It's a but daunting as I use it for so many things! But I've had Proton on my radar for years, and would go for Proton Unlimited as it could replace NordVPN which I pay for, and I'd like the cloud storage and unlimited Aliases etc.

I just have a few questions/concerns I'd like to clear up, if anyone could help...

- I've read so many bad things about the Proton Suite. I mostly use Google Sheets and Docs, and Drive. It seems the Proton versions of these are not really up to the task? Is this set to improve, or could it likely be years?

- My plan was to use aliases to sign up to most things so if they get leaked I can change them. But I'd also want to be able to send and receive emails from aliases. I've read it's not that straightforward, and sending emails from an Alias is convoluted, you cant just pick an alias from within Proton mail and send? Also people saying it wasnt clear when replying if they were replying from the Alias, as you see your main email address in the send field. Can anyone shed any light on this?

- Finally I was considering using my own domain with Proton, in case I wish to move away from it in the future. Is this easy to set up? Ive never done it before. And could I use my own domain for personal and professional emails, but still use my more random proton.me address that I signed up with for aliases for random websites?

Any other advice or comments very welcome!

thanks

Advice on getting a smaller board (video of me surfing)...

Hi, a few months ago I posted here and got some great advice which led to me getting a 7'8 minimal made by Bill Atlee. It's been great and just what I needed. I'm surfing mostly on The Wave as I live in Bristol, but plan to get some more trips to the coast when the surf is good.

I've found myself wanting to turn more on waves, and I'm finding the 7'8 quite slow, as if I make a movement and it's like dragging this huge thing behind me! I guess thats exactly what it is. Its nice to cruise, but thats about it

So I'd like to get a second board. I still want something versatile, that I can use in as many conditions as possible.

I was thinking a good next step might be between 6'2 to 6'7? I'm 6ft and weigh about 75kg. I've seen some boards that size that still have a fair bit of volume, between 35l and 42l for example.

Any advice would be greatly welcome, there are so many options now it's overwhelming.

Here is a video of me surfing...still quite stiff but better than before! I only started 4 months ago so go easy on me :)

First ding, best repair?

Got a scrape today at the wave pool, on the wall. The photo looks like a scrape but it's more of a small crack

Is this just a case of solarez? Should I gouge it out a little first to give it something to take to.

Any advice welcome! I've never done a repair before as a relative newbie

Thanks

How to be more stable now I'm on a hardboard? (Video link included)

Hi

I'm fairly new to surfing, having just started a few month ago in Sri Lanka. I'm now back in the UK and surfing a wavepool - here is the video :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73LX4CjpW1E

I've transitioned to a 7'8 hardboard, and as much as I like how light it is and how it glides compared to a softie, I'm pretty wobbly! I caught most waves, but also found I got them all a bit late, dropped down quite hard and sketchily and had to try and bottom turn which I failed often

If you see my feet and legs, they are constantly rocking back and forth, which I didnt have on the softie. I still managed to ride down the line a bit, but cant say I felt super stable!

Any help with analysis? Is it that I'm losing too much speed, just not found my balance yet, not low enough, etc?

Any advice would be great!

First surfskate - for cruising mostly...

Hi, I've tried surfskating once or twice but very much a beginner.

I'm in the UK and would like to get a board. I'd like to use it for two things...

Getting from the carpark to the Wave in Bristol, with a 7'6 board in a bag on my shoulder. The road is flat and straight and maybe 700m long. Will a surfskate be suitable for this, or just too hard while carrying a board?

I was hoping for something I could push like a normal board without being too wobbly, but also do some big deep carves to keep moving ...Will this work? I was thinking of something with firmer trucks, so it can be used kind of like a normal skateboard, but also for carving just not super sharp maybe

Secondly, I'd like to practise on flat ground and maybe small skate parks just moving around, carving and getting my surf skills better

I don't have aspirations to do any tricks or anything, I just want to cruise and be able to generate speed and turn

Any advice for a noob would be great! Thanks

What do you think of this board for a beginner/intermediate?

Hi, I've been surfing for a few months but every day in Sri Lanka. I'm back in the UK and I want to get my own board, and I've been looking at 7'6 Torq boards, like the mod fun. But then I saw this for sale, and thought it was a bit more unique

What do you think? How will it compare to the Torq boards, and do you thinks a good buy for someone at my level? I'm mostly surfing The Wave Bristol, and catching most waves at 4/5 foot (not with great style though!)

Thanks

I need an all rounder superzoom for my A7V...any advice?

Hi

I shoot primes, and shoot 90% video 10% photos on my A7V and A7IV. I prefer primes for the wider aperture and just the general look. I do also have the Sony 70-200mm f4 for when I need a bit of reach

But I've had a couple of situations recently on jobs where I could really have benefitted from a zoom that covers a lot of range - enough to get in wide enough shots or rooms/cities etc. while also pleasing shoots of people with enough shallow DOF to not just look like a phone!

I am now considering the Tamron 25-200 f3.5-f5.6.

I am wondering if I could replace my 70-200 f4 with this Tamron, and what I'd be losing out on? I see it reaches f4.5 at 53mm, so beyond that, I'd be getting less light and shallow DOF than the sony, but I imagine it wouldn't be a huge difference.

The Tamron would give me much more versatility.

I should say I'm not obsessed with sharpness, I actually find most modern lenses too sharp for video. I also only use my 70-200 occasionally, much less than the rest of my lenses

This lens would just be for run and gun situations where I need to be ready for anything

Any advice? have I missed any other lenses worth considering, that are as fast and versatile

Thanks
