Retention Pond Honeyhole

Retention Pond Honeyhole

Had an hour before work this morning and curiosity got to me as I drove by this new housing development with an enormous retention pond that has appeared over the last few weeks or so.

Threw a 10” Berkley Power Worm and proceeded to catch 25 bass over the next 40 minutes. Was insane. Granted all were under 2lbs but for this pond to appear out of nowhere and hold a ton of aggressive bass is awesome. Has to be some bigger ones lurking? And are they just coming in through drainage pipes?

Looking for a charter end of September - Melbourne to Ft. Pierce Area

As the title says. Got about 4 buddies coming down, looking for a charter to get on some fish and have a good time for probably a half day. Any recommendations for this area?

What Rod/Reel combo do you own that you’d immediately buy again?

Always like to hear what everyone else enjoys throwing. And as a tackle junky, recommendations to add to the arsenal. For me, I’m fishing for bass - red fish - snook - trout, in shore game mostly.

Old Town 106 PDL or the field?

Basically moved down to FL last year, has been great and live near the Indian River. Just based on my current situation I think my wife would kill me if I bought a boat right now, so I’m content putting that on hold for another year.

I’ve been looking into the next best fishing vessel that I can get on the water with quickly and from what I’ve seen the Old Town Pdl106 seems to check all the boxes. I’m also ideally looking to cartop it on my SUV.

Is there other options I should consider for the price point and how much of a difference did getting into a kayak make for your inshore fishing?

Swimbait Rod - What are you using?

I’ve got a few general purpose rods for heavier swimbaits, but would like to upgrade. Curious to see what everyone is using to throw those heavier swimbaits…

Braided line - what are you buying

Having used cheap line and what I deem to be expensive line there is a noticeable difference between the two in longevity. For reference I’d consider most 8 strand 300yd options in that 30$ish price point a decent deal. Curious as to what line/brand others prefer and if it really makes a difference to pay up..

What rod brands are overhyped?

I’ve got a bunch of name brand rods, some are worth the dollar and others seem more smoke than anything else. Just curious to see other input on the market.

Mako Skiff or Tracker Grizzly

For context I live near a few great bass lakes and the Indian River lagoon. Looking for something to use for freshwater lakes mostly but also lagoon/sebastian inlet area/inshore…have never owned a boat and figure living close enough to a Bass Pro dealer it might be the best option to purchase through. Also considering a Salt Marsh Skiff. Live in an HOA boat needs to be stored in the garage which sucks so I’m working with a 16-18ft option max. Any advice or thoughts on what would handle fresh/salt the best is appreciated.

Spinnerbait or Chatterbait

Maybe it’s just me but it seems like you’re either on one side of the fence or another. I clean up on a spinnerbait but can’t get a bite on chatterbait, my buddies the exact opposite. Could just be my fishery..

Always seem to catch bigger bass around the presence of gators??

This could be a nothingburger but recently have noticed the bigger bass I’ve caught in my area anyways are always around gators close by. I know this could be just coincidence and in FL gators are everywhere but do gators attract big bass or vis versa?

Bates Reels - Salty 150 thoughts?

Fish mostly inshore fresh and salt. Seeing the salty 150 on sale at a few places, have never used a bates reel…are they worth the hype and is this a good inshore model?

Heading over to Sanibel Island this weekend. Planning on bringing a 12ft bait rod and a 7.5ft rod for lures while on the beach. Curious what everyone likes to throw for jigs or hard plastics in the surf…
