Taking my 6 mo old contact napper on holiday

My 6 month old exclusively contact naps. I’ve tried unsuccessfully to get him to nap in his crib for months but it never worked. He does sleep in his crib at night but refuses to do so for naps.

He used to sleep in his pram when he was younger, but he hasn’t done it since he turned 4 months. He also doesn’t sleep in the car seat or the baby carrier.

I’m taking him on holiday soon for a couple of days and I’m worried about how I’m going to manage naps. Does anyone have advice? Do i just need to schedule outings around naps and go back to the hotel for naps?

Worried about both failing as a mum and falling behind at work

I’m 5 months into my maternity leave and have another 4 months before I’m due to go back to work. Going back at 9 months was always the plan for financial reasons, so it’s not really a surprise to me, but I’m having a lot of complicated feelings about it.

The first few months were really, really hard. We had feeding issues and I was severely sleep deprived, and there were countless times when I wished I could go back to work as soon as possible.

Things have improved since then. I’m enjoying interacting with my baby and seeing him grow and develop. there are lots of lovely moments now. But despite this improvement, I still find it tough. I’m still exhausted..

The thing is, I don’t actually want to go back to work either. I don’t want to miss my baby or suddenly have all these other responsibilities on top of everything. I was hoping to get a new role next year which would mean more money, but now it feels unlikely I’ll be able to get it given how competitive it is. Having been away from the business for 9 months will count against me for sure as I work in a fast paced, rapidly evolving industry.

I feel like I’m going to fail at both motherhood and my professional life. I feel so anxious . Not sure what the point of this post is. I guess I just needed to vent somewhere.

Sleep deprivation and work

I’m a first time mum to a 4.5 month old who currently still wakes up at night multiple times. I’ll be going back to work when my baby will be 9 months old.

Whilst I know a lot can change in that timeframe, I’ve also heard that some babies just don’t sleep through the night until well after a year old.

So for those mums whose babies didn’t sleep through yet when you had to go back to work, how did you cope? I feel that working with such intense sleep deprivation will feel like torture. I mean it’s already torture now, but there’ll be the added stress of performing badly at work due to the exhaustion.

I want to mentally prepare myself for when i go back.

Baby smiles at everyone but me

My 4.5 month old is such a smiley little guy. He gives big gummy smiles and squeals to his dad, grandma, strangers, his toys etc but rarely smiles at me. I know it’s not a novelty issue because the caregiving is pretty much equal between me, his dad and his grandma (who’s currently living with us) at the moment. In the morning he’ll just stare at me blankly but as soon as dad/grandma come in to say good morning, he will light up for them.

Honestly this makes me so sad. I understand it’s a baby so of course I don’t hold it against him as he’s not doing anything on purpose but it makes me really upset that he doesn’t seem to feel the kind of joy with me that he feels with his dad and grandma.

Sleep deprivation is torture

I’m 3.5 months post partum. I found the newborn stage extremely tough and almost unbearable due to the sleep deprivation. Baby is an awful sleeper and also a contact napper, so I feel like I never get any break.

I have no village nearby. 2 weeks ago, I was on the brink of a mental breakdown, so my MIL (who lives 5 hours away) kindly took a month’s worth of unpaid leave to come and help with the childcare. She has honestly been a godsend, and for the first time in months I’ve felt soo much better. She looks after the baby during the day, so i can rest and catch up on sleep. The breaks have also enabled me to bond with my baby more somehow.

I now dread when she’ll have to go back in a couple of weeks. I already do shifts with my husband so i get 4 hours of sleep but it’s not enough to make me feel rested. I feel super depressed and hopeless at the thought of not having a break again. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I love my baby but I don’t feel that motherhood is for me.

Baby won’t nap when out

Last week for the first time, I met a friend for coffee and my 3.5 month old baby just started being extremely fussy during the outing. It was my baby’s usual nap time and I couldn’t get him to fall asleep. After trying to soothe him for 20 min and failing, I felt very stressed and decided to go home. My friend absolutely didn’t mind but I just felt so stressed.

How can i get my baby to nap when im out? I feel trapped inside the house

Will feeding them more during the day help them sleep more at night?

I’ve seen a few people mention this and i wondered if this has worked for anyone?

Wake windows

Hey all, I keep reading posts from people who mention wake windows and I’m completely clueless about those. What’s the best source of information for this? Looking for what kind of wake windows i should be expecting etc. baby is 10w and nighttime sleep isn’t the best at the moment

Support for when baby isn’t meeting milestones?

My almost 10 week old hasn’t met certain milestones yet, such as social smiles (plenty of reflex smile in his sleep or after feeds though) and tracking voices/recognising me.

At my 6 week health visitor check, they said they’re not worried yet as he is meeting certain milestones (like tracking objects) but to monitor his development. Im going to get back in touch to discuss this but I was wondering, does anyone know what kind of support is available for such situations? Do they provide recommendations/advice or anything else? I’m just curious.

PPD/PPA medication

For those who are taking (or have taken) medication for PPD/PPA, did it help? How long did it take for the medication to kick in?
