Advice on sitting car

My buddy gave me a 2012 jeep liberty that had been sitting for a year and a half. These are the things I’ve done,

New brakes, rotors and calipers
Oil change

I started it and it sounds great.

It had 3/4 tank of gas, the internet is telling me to siphon that gas out or I will ruin the engine. It is also telling me to do a coolant flush. It is also telling me to do a coolant flush or again I will ruin it all. The internet always makes everything seem like life or death and you’re gonna die.

The heat doesn’t work, but I can hear clicking and pretty sure it’s the acuator.

So the coolant flush and gas siphon is it necessary? I already started it did I ruin everything? The engine sounded great. So thoughts??

How do you get past the fear?

I’ve begun working on my own cars a 2006 sonata and a 2016 jeep out of necessity because who the hell can afford shop prices these days. But I do find that I enjoy it. But there is that fear of tackling certain jobs and potentially running into an issue I am ill equipped to figure out. How do you get past that or is it just “screw it”?

Also the fear of hitting something with a hammer. I gather the cars can take a beating aside from the outside but still it’s scary.

2012 Jeep Liberty worth it?

Friend offered to give me his 2012 jeep liberty for me to work on and get running. It has been sitting for a couple of years. I like working on cars and learning as I go. But I hate doing it to my every day driver because if I fuck up well I’m fucked.

So long story short I’m planning on having it towed to my house and start working on basic stuff to see if I can get it running. My plans are as follows:

  1. New Battery
  2. Oil change
  3. Tranny fluid change
  4. New serpentine belt
  5. New spark plugs and coils
  6. Siphon gas and put new gas in

It will definitely need new rotors and brakes after sitting so long but If I can’t even get it running no point in bothering with all that just yet.

Parts wise it’s not too bad the most expensive item is probably the battery.

Am I on the right track? Is this worth it even for practice on a car that I don’t need to drive to work?

Exhaust Repair

I know what should be done , cut this sucker out and put a new flex pipe kit in. I am going to do that once my wife is off for the summer. But in the meantime is there a quick fix for this maybe a clamp?

Exhaust problem

So I have 2016 jeep cherokee latitude. It’s always been on the loud side. But I think I found the culprit. I am assuming this pipe is supposed to be connected to the thing that it looks like it came off of. So I guess my question is can I just reconnect these two items. Also what are they called or is this a mechanic job and not DIy?

Battery Light

Long story short I bought an 07 Sonata in January and didn’t realize the AC was broken. My FIL and my self have been trying to fix it. We noticed that the compressor was unplugged but no wire with a connecter was found. My FIL found a wire he thought might work. Well it didn’t but now my Battery Light came on and the battery isn’t being charged.

My FIL says I need a new alternator because “ sometimes they go bad”. I pointed out we were messing with the wiring in that region and that’s a coincidence that just now the alternator goes bad. He throws his hands up and goes “it happens” and starts reading the mail.

Anyone have any ideas as to what we could have done to cause this? My feeling is this is why the compressor was unplugged and no wire was found. Someone had this issue and this was their solution. Thoughts?

“Clean side brush”

I cleaned it and we get an internal error and it doesn’t spin. We’ve only had this thing like a month. Any ideas. I have an email out to support.

I’m struggling with my 1+ and resource guarding

I’m really at a loss here. I have a 1 year old Golden that I got from my coworker that couldn’t handle him. He’s a sweetheart 90% of the time. But he has resource guarding issues that are random as hell. It’s not good it’s odd things like pillows or couch cushion. He’s bitten my FIL in the past and last night he cornered my wife after she closed the dishwasher door and we don’t really know why.

I have been doing all the things that everyone says to do with him. Show him that I don’t want to take his precious whatever. Trade with a high value treat but he seems to be getting more and more aggressive with it. I have 2 kids as well and 2 other goldens as well. So I’m like at a cross roads. Does anyone have any out of the box advice because I don’t know how much longer I can do this. My red line with animals is going after the kids if that happens he’s going. But they do their best to avoid him when he has something. But I’m trying to avoid something bad happening. Anyone have any advice?

So my 2007 Hyundai Sonata has a loud squeak or creak, it kinda sounds like opening a door that needs to be oiled on the hinges. Now I have tried to narrow down where its coming from, I am leaning towards the strut or the lower ball joint. But when I jack it up and take the wheel off it doesn't do it so its really hard to pin down. Any thoughts? I would like to avoid spending money on random parts and still have it squeak.
