too many broken bits

was just adding some bolts as backup to my questionable welding work and had a rough time getting the second hole drilled. The big bauer cobalt set turned out to be pretty nice to be able to drill through the multiple broken hercules bits. The s wrench was nice for getting the bolts in after.

these should have a raised power switch

that is all, take note hf designers. It's hard to locate by feel especially with gloves on

edit: recess it for the worry warts about it turning on in a toot bag

sumosprings save 90%

searched through sumosprings catalog and found the main part for our trucks is pretty similar to many other models just different bits of hardware. I got ones for a toyota off ebay and rigged up my own hardware. Saved about 90% and they seem to be all good, have given me a 1" lift

mobile welding

used the jupiter inverter to run a welder in a spot with no electric. Got a new coupler welded on a camper I found in a field. used a bunch of hf gear, basically everything except the welder and the grinder.

slow dirt road drivers

How do ya'll handle these city folks moving to our land and driving some new shiny superduty at 15mph on narrow backcountry roads. They don't pull over to let you courtesy pass because they're probably worried you'll scrape or kick a rock up at their shinyness. They drag in front of you for 5 miles when you'd normally be goimg 40 in your ol gmt400 c3500 thats used like a real truck.

Maintenance is pricey

went to rotate tires and found I need to replace some steering components, 3 days of research later I'm ordering $2k of repair and upgrade parts (and tools) for my van, emphasis on the upgrades.

The Daytona cross beam was easy to put on and take off the jack but the jack nor the bar was really cut out to lift a whole side at once.

Got to use some stuff I've picked up at sales and hadn't used yet like the coolant refiller.

The split beam torque wrench is nice but not sure I really needed it more than the cheaper one I already had. The extra length is nice for higher torque but a digital unit and breaker bar might have been sufficient and cheaper. The torque sticks were nice to get in the ballpark. Some sort of wheel puller would be nice. Had to set van back down with loose lug nuts and drive it back and forth to break the wheel free. The normal kicking and sledge hammers werent enough. I cleaned up the wheel a little with a grinder around the hub opening so hopefully it doesnt crush on the hub like that next time they come off, which will be soon.

Really could use a second jack. Hopefully the baby badlands is still in stock when I go to town this weekend but I doubt it.

I've been dwbatting on getting the large icon ratcheting wrenchs when I go but not sure they are worth it. Theres a 16 piece 8-24mm gearwrench set for $150. Not reversible and no 27, 30, or 32. Do people use those big sizes for anything. The two icon sets would be $234 so an $84 premium to get those big guys. Plus you don't get 8 or 9. I coukd supplement with non-ratcheting gear wrench set spanning 25-27, 29,30, 32 for about the price difference. What choice would a real but cheap mechanic do?

Maddox vs OTC front end service kit

For the Maddox 5 piece front end service kit does anyone have experience between that and the OTC kit. The OTC is about 50% more expensive on amazon. Any experience with OTC warranty? I've heard for example gearwrench warranty can be difficult when buying off amazon. I wonder if OTC would be similar. The maddox is 90 day warranty and there's a chance it'll go on sale by the time all my parts come in for a front end upgrade in the next few weeks. Most likely I'll have used it within 90 days so if I break it on this first job I can get it swapped for a future use but if someone can convince me one way or another. Or should I kist buy the pissburg tie rod and pittman arm puller for $13 as that's the only thing I should need for the upgrades this round. Like many in here I like to have tools before I need them though

kryptonite parts on express

looks like 99-06 1500 6 lug pitman, idler, and idler bracket are the same as on my 2012 express. Anyone else here put kryptonite versions of those gmt800 parts on a van? Clearance would likely be the only reason I fathom it might not work. Also anyone know if the kryptonite idler bracket is just a supersteer 175 repackaged? Supersteer also has a pitman arm but it's hard to tell if that looks equivalent to the krypronite and is only slightly cheaper so I'd probably just go krptonite on that for the warranty if it fits

I already know the center link and end rods arent compatible but if anyone knows any options for express vans that way would be great.

There's also a frame support gusset for the 99-06 idler bracket. Anyone know if the front of the frames are basically the same between the express vans and 800's where I could use that support?

brakleen with maddox 32oz sprayer

is buying a gallon jug of brakleen really cheaper than buying aerosol cans? Per once it appears to cost more but I have the sprayer so help me figure out what I'm not getting

Hf has the 14oz cans for like $5.6 if you catch a 30% off sale. Amazon has a12 pack for $45 which is 168ounces. Or a gallon jug is $45 but thats only 128 ounces.

aeresol holders

Got these guys (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DG5HMK5B) installed using some magnets (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2KGGTWC). Also put a gromet spacer because the stud starts to interfere with the can. You could just cut the studs length down but I didn't feel like doing that.

came out to about $1.6 per can spot for me. Compared to say the hf two can holder at like $5/ can spot when on a good sale. Good for a tool chest, shipping container, or refrigerator
