Found this old Sears ad that was obviously inspiration for the catalogues in RDR2

(I'm not from the US, so sorry if this is something that's painfully obvious to those who are)

I just stumbled across this and thought it was so cool to see that the developers took inspiration from real era-specific ads and flyers, especially the identical font on the price.

I do appreciate the level of detail that the game took to being era appropriate.

When did your period come back post-partum? How long did it take to regulate if it did?

Before baby I was on a specific estrogen combined pill that worked incredibly well for me after a lifetime of trial and error. Lots of the usual stuff that PCOS folks experience with trialing contraceptives, extra long periods, no predictable cycle etc until I found this one.

3 months PP, and I have my period back, but we're going on a week and a half of bleeding.

My new doctor wouldn't prescribe a combination pill due to my BMI being too high (first time a doctor has told me that and my BMI is the same as before pregnancy so I'm surprised but figured I'd roll with it). So I'm on a progesterone only pill and I'm just getting flashbacks to all the drama I've had with contraceptives in the past given that this period seems to be dragging on. I don't wanna do the several months bleeding stuff again :(

If you've had a baby, did it take a while for your period to regulate again? Did you have extra long ones until it did etc?

Side note: please no recommendations of other contraceptive types. We'd like another child in the next couple of years and I've trialled enough to know I'm happy with the pill.

Do your kiddos look more like their mum or dad, and how early could you tell?

Just curious and for a bit of fun.

My first baby is 3 months old and looks just like I did when I was a baby, and yet when I see certain expressions he pulls he looks JUST like his dad. It's so hard to tell right now.

I have a friend who has three boys and they all look like a copy/paste of her.

I just find it so interesting!

Train stations where you can get a park later in the morning?

Hi friends and foes,

My nearest station is Dinmore and I know that after 6.30am you're hard pressed to find a car park.

Are there any other stations where I'm likely to find a spot if I'm heading into the city around 9am?

What made your baby laugh/giggle for the first time?

Title says it all. First time mum and my 11 week old seems so close to laughing, I'm so excited for it.

And if I'm this excited, then I know it's going to be a sweet moment and I'd love to hear your stories of what that moment looked like and meant for you 🥰

Looking for sugar free maple syrup recommendations now that Steeves is gone :(

Woolies confirmed that they will no longer be stocking the Steeves Sugar Free Maple Syrup (side note, if you love it too please provide them that feedback as they consider stocking options based on demand and they're keeping the Steeves standard Maple!).

It became a staple in my household and I'm not a fan of the Queen one.

Any suggestions appreciated, even if it's not maple per se, let me know if there are any other sugar free syrups worth trying!

Boho-ish dresses that are appropriate as office attire -suggestions please!

Saw this pop up on my IG ads and I think it's cute, but not like.. $150 and 100% polyester cute 😬 here in QLD it'll be too sweaty to wear by next week at this rate and it'll quickly start smelling bad in the pits after the 1.5 commute walking between connecting trains. Mama gets sweaty.

Don't mind that price range if it's cotton, linen etc.

Any suggestions for brands that will let me inject a little more of my boho style into my office attire? More of this sort of style with the collar.

Donating clothes in Ipswich - suggestions please

Anyone know a place that will actually accept clothing donations at the moment?

Wounded Heroes are full (good for them) but I have a newborn with me and nobody to help look after her. I need to be able to pull up close to the actual shop, hand some bags over and be gone.

Preferably within the radius of Bundamba, Ipswich CBD and North Ipswich if possible (I'd rather not trek out to Springfield, Ripley, Redbank Plains etc because there are such short gaps between feeding the baby 🥲).

Alternatively if you can tell me where a skip bin is that'll fit 3 large bags of clothing. I have no space for this stuff but I would much prefer to donate.

Cheers

Shaping underwear recommendations please!

Trying to find the ideal Shapewear undies (preferably high waisted and gotta be available in a size 16). I have an amazing pair from Target years ago but they're long beyond making and stocking those exact ones anymore. Quickly editing to add: not keen on shorts options but appreciate the suggestions:)

Excuse my elegant atristry. Pics of what I'm hoping to avoid and so commonly find with shapewear undies, two major issues that I keep finding:

  1. They cover well but then the top is a tighter elastic band that then creates like, a domed shape? What's the point of smoothing shapewear if it suddenly stops and creates a spare tyre shape around your lower belly 🥲 it seems like for so many of them the "shaping" part is mainly near the waistband and then there's little support lower down.

  2. Not having full bum coverage. If I wanted a g string I'd buy one, but I do not. For those of us who do not have tight buns (so, you know, the target demographic for shapewear) I'm not looking to have a weird wedgie where the bottom of my butt sticks out funny.

In case it helps, the issues I'm trying to resolve are predominantly my lower belly. The skin is somewhat loose after huge weight loss, made slightly worse after having a baby. When I wear jeans everything fits okay but the lower belly skin just looks oddly shaped unless it's smoothed out a little. I know there are products out there that can do this for my body, as I mentioned above I have an ol faithful pair.

Bonus points if they can be purchased in person 🤞 I'd rather just go out and get it than spending money on shipping again and again if there's trial and error involved here. But happy to consider online-only options if you can really vouch for it fitting the above criteria.

Thank you so much!

Postpartum body changes, what to expect?

Hi there, I'm 2 months pp from my first child and hearing so many mixed messages about what to expect. I thought this would vary from person to person, but I'm hearing things like "at 4 months your hair starts falling out" or "at 6 months the hormones change and xyz happens".

Are there any pretty solid timeframes that I should expect? Is it different if you start hormonal contraceptives? When did you start feeling more stable in mood and emotion?

For context:

- I was breastfeeding but stopped at 6 weeks due to underproducing

- I'm going on the pill soon. We want another child in the next few years and other forms of contraceptives have been a nightmare for me after a lifetime of trying to find balance with PCOS.

- I ended up with a pretty severe uterine prolapse that I'm waiting to see a gyno about (I don't mean to flex, I've got it all going on 💅). I'm told that once the hormones settle everything starts to lift up again a bit but I'll need more targeted interventions sooner I think (physio etc).

Thank you!

Uterine prolapse with no pain or incontinence - looking for people's input based on their own experiences please

Hi everyone,

I'm two months postpartum from my first baby, and yesterday a radiologist confirmed a uterine prolapse that I had already suspected. My cervix has always been low (my entire life) but after having my baby it's now actually external. Yay.

Yet to see a gynecologist to confirm the next steps and to confirm the "stage" but from everything I've read it looks like stage 3.

When I had my baby it was a terrifying 1hr labour, approx 3 mins of pushing. I'm guessing the sheer speed at which my cervix pulled itself open has had a lot to do with why this has progressed the way it has.

Thankfully no incontinence whatsoever (which has surprised me). Apparently my bladder is slightly prolapsed, but the radiologist said that's most likely because the uterus/cervix are pulling it down with them.

I'd love to have one more baby, but the radiologist mentioned that a hysterectomy is a common (but not the only) treatment for this.

Looking to see if anyone elses journey has been relatable. Ideal outcome for me would be exercises/pessary until I've had another child and then exploring surgery or removal maybe. I'm not even sure if it's safe to do so, especially given that my body seems to want to be an express baby cannon when giving birth.

Not even 100% sure what I'm asking here but that's what I'm working with and I'd love to hear more from people who've experienced it I guess :)

Membrane sweep - what happened after yours?

40+1 today, had the membrane sweep done yesterday afternoon at my appointment. I was 1cm dilated and she was able to touch the baby's head but apparently there's still quite a bit of cervix shortening and stretching to go.

I experienced light cramping all night and there's some light spotting. Last night while preparing dinner I had the most insane back pain that suddenly hit and completely dissipated within about 5-10mins. I've got a good pain tolerance so it totally took me by surprise but nothing again since then. My period pain was almost always in my back so I guess that makes sense. Baby is definitely in the right position thankfully.

Any wonderful anecdotal experiences from you all that can give me some hope that this baby will come soon? 😂 please?

I worked up to Friday last week, and I'm desperate for the little guy to come sooner rather than later as my workplace has no parental leave policy at all and I'm just chewing through my annual leave while I wait now given that I can't use the (abysmal) govt funded parental leave until the baby is actually born. Saving my sick leave for when I return to work at the end of the year and we cop the inevitable daycare sicknesses, since I won't be accruing any additional in this time.

Vent/for a laugh - what are some of the most unhinged comments you've had from older people through pregnancy and into parenthood, and how did you respond or wish you responded?

Genuinely just for a laugh and to blow off some steam.

My due date is tomorrow (!!) and I've been reflecting on the comments I've had and continue to have.

First half of my pregnancy I used to just get annoyed about it, but I'm a sarcastic pain in the arse at the best of times so I quickly learned how to respond in ways that either shut them down or really ruffle their feathers just for the sake of having some fun with it.

I don't mean the well meaning, sage advice from people who know better, I mean the outdated, out of touch, sometimes straight up rude stuff from parents, other family, colleagues, random strangers who have no idea what it's like to do this in this day and age.

Some of my faves so far:

  1. "Omg, you new mothers are so precious that you won't even eat cold ham during pregnancy."

"Yeah you're right, I should paint the nursery with lead and stick some asbestos in the roof."

  1. "You won't need any pain relief, we didn't really do that much in our day and our babies were fine."

"We have different bodies and different pregnancies but thank you."

- (Side note to this one, I'm not even strictly planning on using pain relief so this was just a random af attempt at a flex?? In the middle of a work meeting? 😂)

  1. "I don't know why you're wasting your time trying to do so much cooking now to prepare, the hospital will keep you in for several days after he's born and they'll feed you and teach you how to look after the baby for those days, you're panicking for nothing."

"Actually thesedays if all goes well they send you home either same day or next day and you've gotta figure it out on your own other than the odd visit so I'm happy to be prepared."

  1. Finally, I feel this one takes the cake as far as the internalised misogyny that older generations tend to have goes (Side note, I genuinely, empathetically feel bad for anyone who thinks this way):

"You know, breastfeeding is the best time to lose all that baby weight that you've put on. They say you need extra calories while you're breastfeeding but you can ignore that, you're gonna feel like shit anyway so if you just eat less than you normally do the weight will just fall off you! It's so good! It's like nature's way of making sure you get to go back to your old self quicker!".

"Not really looking at disordered eating as a health tactic while I'm trying to nourish my child but.. thanks."

Absolutely not coming from a place of judgement, just genuine curiosity.

I'm in my early 30s and pregnant with my first, leaving it til this age was an intentional decision that we're both really happy with. I absolutely cannot imagine having more than 2 (even then I'm gonna see how I go with just having one 😂). Husband and I both come from 2 child, working-class families and I genuinely feel that our quality of life as kids would've been worse off if there were more mouths to feed.

I've spoken with people throughout my pregnancy who've had 3+ and for the most part the reasons (that they've offered up without being asked) seem to sit under 3 reasons: 1. Babies are so cute and I wanted more. 2. We kept having girls/boys and wanted to try for the other (usually applies to those who had girls and the husband desperately wanted a son) and 3. Accident and we rolled with it.

In my mind some of those don't seem like the best reasons to bring a child into the world, but for all of these people their kids are happy, healthy and safe so makes no difference to me.

Totally get that everyone's different and I love that about the world we live in. I'm just a curious little critter and wondering what drove you to that decision if it applies to you?

Keen to hear your individual experiences on this please, more just out of fun curiosity :)

First pregnancy, 38 weeks now. Ever since we found out, little guy is GROOVIN. Even way back at the 8 week scan as a blob with little nubs for limbs he was wiggling his little butt.

Almost every waking minute this kid is performing what feels like either crocodile death rolls or what I imagine a squirrel on cocaine would be doing.

Low-risk pregnancy, no concerns, all good blood work etc. The midwives assure me that all is good and that he's just an active little fella.

My placenta is at the back so I know that contributes to feeling more movement, but even friends and family who've had babies watch my belly and go "what the fuck?" 😂

Thankfully he's active during the day and mostly seems to sleep when I sleep at night. I know it probably won't stay that way once he's born (but a gal can dream).

I'd love to hear what your own experiences were in relation to movements and how/if it correlated on the outside. Not looking for an exact scientific explanation, just your anecdotal stories. Thank you!
