why do koreans age so well?

i’ve been obsessed with how koreans maintain that동안 (baby face) look for so long. i used to think it was purely genetics, but after talking to a close korean friend of mine, i realized it’s a whole different approach to aging. she is literally 12 years older than me but looks a decade younger, it’s insane.

we were discussing how westerners and asians age differently. in the west, we tend to focus a lot on fixing deep wrinkles or overfilling with structural fillers, but she explained that koreans focus heavily on skin elasticity, lifting the deep layers, and keeping that skin barrier plump and glass-like.

anyway, i’m finally visiting seoul this july for a proper glowup korea trip. i really want to get ultherapy korea and maybe rejuran korea done while i’m there to tackle some early sagging.

my friend strictly warned me to avoid those massive tourist factory clinics you see all over tiktok and instagram. she said for people in our 30s, those assembly-line places are a huge gamble because a different doctor walks in every 5 minutes, and if they don't map your face properly, ultherapy can cause terrible cheek hollowing or fat loss, which is my biggest nightmare.

she recommended a smaller private korean clinic in gangnam called dion clinic (디온의원) near seolleung station. she said the head doctor there handles everything from the consultation to the actual procedure 1:1, so the quality control is there.

has anyone here actually been to this place? i’m trying to find an honest korea clinic review or any feedback before i reach out to them on whatsapp or instagram. i'm super paranoid about my face and want a reliable korea clinic that actually understands facial sagging rather than just blasting a machine. would love to hear your thoughts or if you have any experience with this specific gangnam clinic!

honestly this annual hangang festival is the best summer kickoff in seoul. going again this june!

hey guys, with june right around the corner, i was just looking back at my photos from last year and wanted to share a review of what is easily seoul’s biggest and best annual festival for foreigners and expats.

it’s called the 2026 my pace hangang triathlon festival and it happens every year in early june (this year it’s june 5-7 at ttukseom park). i went last year with a group of friends and it was easily the highlight of my entire summer.

don't let the word "triathlon" put you off. it's totally non-competitive and run by the city government, so you just swim, bike, or run at your own pace with zero pressure. the coolest part for me was the flexibility. i’m a bit of a swimmer, so i just did the han river swim leg and then skipped straight to the after-party lol. you can choose exactly what you want to do, even if it's just one sport.

but the absolute best part of the whole experience was the haechi beer party at sunset. sitting by the river with fresh fried chicken, cold beers, and live music was incredible. they also have a massive water park zone called haechi island with water bounce houses and tons of local k-food stalls everywhere, so the festival energy is just amazing.

i had such a blast last year that i’ve already decided to go back again this june with some friends to recreate the memories. registration is open right now, and i found an exclusive foreigner discount package that includes the race entry, water park access, and a full chimaek voucher, which ends up being way cheaper than what locals pay on the korean sites.

definitely recommend putting this on your itinerary if you're staying in seoul next month. anyone else planning to go this year? let’s link up for a beer! 🍻

If you are in Korea in early June, you seriously cannot miss this festival (Seoul’s biggest summer event)

hey everyone, just wanted to drop a huge recommendation for anyone who will be staying in or visiting korea next month.

from june 5th to 7th, seoul city is hosting its biggest river event of the year at ttukseom park: the "2026 MY PACE Hangang Triathlon Festival".

if you want to experience real local outdoor culture instead of just standard tourist sightseeing, this is exactly where you need to be. it’s a completely non-competitive sports festival run by the government, meaning you just swim, bike, or run at your own pace with zero pressure.

here is why it’s a must-do for early june:

  • ultimate flexibility: you don't have to do all three sports. you can actually sign up for just the swimming part alone, which is a rare bucket list chance to swim across the han river.
  • the "haechi beer party": this is the absolute highlight. at sunset, they host a massive chimaek (chicken and beer) party right by the river with live music.
  • haechi island zone: they set up a massive water park zone with water bounce houses and tons of local k-food stalls everywhere.

the vibe last year was absolutely electric—just pure summer energy. registration is currently open for foreigners, but spots for the special packages usually sell out pretty fast since it’s seoul's main event for the weekend.

i’ll leave the official foreigner booking link in the comments below to avoid the spam filters.

if you're going to be in seoul during those dates, definitely lock this in. let’s grab a beer there! 🍻

If you’re traveling to Seoul in early June, put this on your itinerary! (Han River Festival)

hey guys, i'm planning my trip to seoul for early june and just stumbled upon this event called the "MY PACE Hangang Triathlon Festival" (happening june 5-7 at ttukseom park).

it says it's run by the seoul government and is completely non-competitive, so you just go at your own pace. what caught my eye is that you can apparently just sign up for the swimming part alone? swimming in the han river sounds like a crazy bucket list experience for a traveler, but has anyone actually done it before? is it safe/fun?

also, they mentioned a "haechi beer party" package with fried chicken and beer at sunset, and some water park zone called "haechi island." it sounds like a really cool way to experience the local outdoor culture rather than just doing the usual sightseeing, but i wanted to check if it's worth checking out with friends.

registration seems to be open for foreigners right now, but before booking, i wanted to ask if anyone went last year or is planning to go this year?

thanks in advance for any tips! ✈️🍻

Any divers in Bohol this June? Let's clean up Panglao's dive sites together! 🌊♻️

Hi everyone,

I’ll be spending the entire month of June in Panglao, Bohol, and I'm planning to do underwater marine debris clean-ups during my fun dives around the major dive sites. I’m looking for fellow divers who might be around and want to team up to give back to the ocean!

A quick background: I’m a certified dive instructor, but for this trip, I’ll be visiting purely as a regular guest/customer. I’ve decided to base my diving out of Amigo Dive. They are actually quite famous among the Korean dive shops in Bohol for having spotless accommodations and serving amazing Korean food! But more importantly, their corporate name is "1.5°C" (a nod to the global warming threshold). That really highlights their genuine interest in environmental issues, which perfectly aligns with what I want to do.

My plan is to pitch this initiative to the shop as a guest and ask if they'd be willing to support us by providing sacks/mesh bags and gloves for the trash we collect. Also, if we manage to get a decent-sized group together, I plan on reaching out to the Panglao Coast Guard to request their cooperation and support to make this a bigger, safer effort!

Never done a clean-up dive before? No worries at all! If it’s your first time picking up trash underwater, I’d be more than happy to help. Since I am an instructor, I can guide you through the essential safety precautions and assist you from a Specialty perspective—like how to manage your buoyancy while carrying a bag, or how to safely remove tangled debris without harming the local marine life.

If you're planning to be in Bohol this June and want to make your fun dives a bit more meaningful, drop a comment or send me a DM! Let’s blow some bubbles and leave the reefs better than we found them. 🐢💙

After participating in the MY PACE Hangang Triathlon Festival held at the Han River last June

Last year's festival was good, but it seems like the organizer, Seoul, prepared more for foreigners this time.

This year, the more fun and foreign-friendly 2026 MY PACE Hangang Triathlon Festival will be held from June 5th to 7th, so instead of competing for records, enjoy a light workout at your own pace, followed by a chicken and beer party with your friends.

Keep in mind that you can purchase tickets at a better price if you apply with your friends.

Jejudo Gapado Green Barley

A small island in Jeju filled with green barley. It's an island about 10 minutes further by boat from Jeju.

It was an island with more tourists than residents.

The boat is every 30 minutes, and the last boat stops at 5 o'clock.

Yeonjae, Seoul, South Korea, Yeonjae Tattoo

Just got my little galaxy done and I’m honestly obsessed with it!! 🌌🚀

I’ve been wanting something for my helix for a while, but I’m kind of over piercings, so I decided to go for a tattoo that follows the natural curve of my ear. I found Yeonjae (@yeonjae_tattoo) in Hongdae and her micro-work is just next level.

I still can’t believe she managed to fit all those nebulous colors and that tiny rocket into such a small, tricky space. It literally looks like a deep-space photograph tucked away in my ear.

The studio was super chill and private, and since she speaks great English, the consultation was a breeze. If you’re ever in Seoul and want something super detailed and artistic, you seriously need to check her out.

Pretty stoked with how the colors pop. Has anyone else here done a full-color piece on their ear? How was the healing for you?

you know the "my pace" hangang triathlon festival (june 5-7)?

hey everyone, was looking for some group activities for june and found something pretty crazy.

you know the "my pace" hangang triathlon festival (june 5-7)? i did it last year and it’s super chill since it’s not a competitive race. but this year, i found an exclusive link for foreigners that’s actually CHEAPER than the korean registration sites lol. usually we pay more for everything here, so this was a nice surprise.

the best part is the "haechi beer party" package. if you get the couple or family pass, you get a whole fried chicken, beers, and a picnic setup by the river. it’s honestly a steal—includes the race entry (you can just do the swimming part if you want!), a t-shirt, medals, and the whole chimaek setup.

so i was just scrolling through my photos from last summer and realized the "my pace" triathlon is happening again in june. i did it last year and it was seriously such a vibe.

i'm a runner and usually i'm all about my records, but this one was totally different. no pressure, no rankings, just swimming and biking at your own pace. i'm also a bit of a water person, so swimming in the han river was a huge bucket list moment for me.

tbh the best part wasn't even the race... it was the chimaek (chicken & beer) party at ttukseom park afterward. sitting there with a cold beer watching the sunset was the highlight of my trip.

since it’s a seoul city government event, i found the registration for foreigners was actually super smooth, which i know can be a headache sometimes here.

it’s happening june 5-7 at ttukseom hangang park. if you're gonna be in seoul then, you should definitely check it out. it’s called "sium global".

anyone else planning to go? maybe i'll see you there for a beer! 🍻

Hey everyone!

I just found out that the "2026 MY PACE Hangang Triathlon Festival" is returning to Ttukseom Hangang Park this June 5–7.

I joined this event last year, and honestly, it was such a highlight. I’m not a "triathlete" by any means, but the best part of this festival is that it's completely non-competitive. You just swim, bike, and run at your own pace—no pressure, just good energy.

Why I’m recommending it:

  • The Vibe: It’s more like a giant outdoor party than a race.
  • Chimaek Night: They have a romantic chimaek (chicken & beer) night by the river with live ballads. Last year, the sunset view with a cold beer after the activity was incredible.
  • Water Playground: There are chill zones and water playgrounds to cool off.

If you’re living in Seoul or visiting during that time, you should definitely check it out. It’s a great way to meet people and enjoy the K-style food experiences they have set up.

I’m planning to head there for the atmosphere (and mostly the beer). Would love to see more people from this sub joining in!

I had such an amazing time last year and I'd love for more people to experience it. If you have any questions about the event, the course, or what to bring, feel free to leave a comment! I’ll try to answer everything I know.

See you at the river! 🌊🚲🏃‍♂️🍻

So glad I finally covered up this blurry mess on my back. Swipe for the "Before" – it was basically just a purple blob after 8 years. lol.

I was super nervous about a cover-up since it’s tricky, but Yeonjae (@yeonjae_tattoo) in Hongdae absolutely nailed it. Her fine-line work is insane. I love how she used the red roses to flow with the old ink instead of just trying to "hide" it. It actually looks like a piece of art now.

If you're in Seoul and need someone who speaks English and has a killer steady hand, she's the one. Still can't stop checking it in the mirror. 😂
