Furring out exterior walls 2x4 to 2x6

The walls of my 1965 house in SK, Canada, are 2x4. During renovations, we noticed that some of the insulation was in really bad condition, so we decided to replace all of it on the exterior walls (bilevel house). While undertaking such repairs, I’m thinking whether it’s worth it to add 2” strips (ripped 2x10) to be able to put 2x6 (actual 1.5”x5.5”) insulation in.
What worries me is that cutting 2” strips with a table saw might leave me with crooked walls. Could I use 2x2 (actual 1.5”x1.5”) instead and compress the insulation by 1/2”? Either Rockwool or fibreglass insulation.
I’d be adding the strips to the inside of the house, as the outside has stucco that I don’t want to mess up.

Need advice: redoing basement plumbing

I’m in a situation where I need to redo the basement drains. I invited three plumbers to provide quotes, but the prices were prohibitively high, and some of their recommendations contradicted each other.

I’m comfortable doing the work myself, but I’d like some advice on whether my plan makes sense. Would anyone in Canada be willing to help over chat or over the phone/FaceTime?

Rate my basement rough in plan

I am changing out old cast iron/copper drains to ABS and these are my plans. Each room in the basement is required to have a backflow prevention valve, but the upstairs doesn’t need to have one, hence the wye at the sewer main. The central stack will go upstairs and will also serve as a vent there.
There is a 1-1/4” vent behind the vanity on the left but I am not sure it’s sufficient to vent the toilet through that. Is the toilet good the way it is shown now without a supplementary vent before the valve?

Dealer Won’t Honor VWP-23-03 on 2018 Tiguan and pushing for other repairs instead

2018 Tiguan has developed misfires, rich idle, and stalling (especially when slowing down) that match the symptoms of the faulty fuel injector wiring harness covered under VW extended warranty VWP-23-03. Multiple independent shops could not replicate the issue and recommended repairs that I performed. The VW dealer now refuses to inspect the harness, claims they don’t know what codes are needed, and is quoting me for spark plugs, PCV valve, valve cover gasket, and control arm bushings. Can I get them to honor the warranty without paying for unnecessary work? More details below:

I have a 2018 Tiguan that started misfiring and stalling out of nowhere in fall 2024 when temperatures dropped. A scan showed the system running too rich at idle and the fault was jumping between banks with each scan. I took it to a German car shop for diagnostics. They could not replicate the problem, no codes were present at the time, and they told me to return when the issue occurred again.

The car drove fine through the winter. The same symptoms returned in spring 2025 and it would stall on the road while slowing down. The shop recommended replacing the PCV valve, spark plugs, and possibly the injectors. I changed the spark plugs and PCV valve myself. After that, the car drove well for about a year, with only occasional check-engine lights that appeared and disappeared without storing any codes.

I did not replace the injectors because the car was running fine. Then, last week, the misfires returned along with the rich-idle condition and a catalyst efficiency code (P0420).

I took it to a second shop. The mechanic checked for oil leaks, confirmed the PCV valve and spark plugs were good, tested the injectors, and spent significant time trying to replicate the issue. He could not find the cause.

After researching on Google, forums, and with ChatGPT, everything points to the fuel injector wiring harness fault covered under VW Technical Bulletin VWP-23-03 (10-year/120,000-mile extended warranty). I went to the dealer and specifically asked them to check for the faulty injector harness. They said they would perform a scan and let me know if the codes required for a warranty repair show up. When I asked for the specific codes, the service advisor said they didn’t know, that “only other people know,” and gave me other vague bs answers.

The service advisor also stated they have not yet inspected the harness and will not do so until all other issues are fixed. Their system is now quoting me for spark plugs (even though I already replaced them), the PCV valve, valve cover gasket, and control arm bushings.

How do I deal with this dealer to get the injector harness replaced under warranty without paying for these unrelated repairs? Any advice on what to say, what documentation to bring, or how to escalate would be greatly appreciated.

I went to replace windows in 1960s house and this is the state of the bottom sill of a couple of windows. What do I do with this?

I have a basement suite in 1960s house. The intake for the furnace is on the shared wall between the entrance to the suite and the mechanical room the furnace is in. It’s very loud. Is there anyway to relocate it or close it off to dampen the sound while maintaining the air flow?

HVAC vents are also under the slab and I found one some spots are showing signs of rust. However, the airflow is good throughout all vents. Should I redo it to have the vents in the ceiling instead?
