Juice vs Squeeze? High-end 5070 ti or low end 5080 and RAM (possibly mobo) blew up so is it time to upgrade or just fix?

Looking for opinions?
#1 - My PC keeps on blue screening and I took it to MicroCenter to get diagnostics. If they tell me its RAM and/or Mobo... (5800x3d 32gb cl16 MSI x570 mobo) is it worth it to fix it or just suck it up and buy a new PC with these crazy prices of today?

#2 - I currently have a 7900XTX Nitro+ but I wanted to start playing Cyberpunk but I mainly play strategy games (Dawn of War/xCom/Civ) is it worth it to get a high end 5070ti as a replacement or just get the cheapest 5080 I can find?

Update existing 5800x3d/32gb ram/7900xtx to 9850x3d/62gb ram or replace NVME and hold on until next gen

Last night, my gaming PC crashed and I tried to reload win11 on it and nothing is working. So, Im debating on two things:

  1. Buy a new PC https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3PnNzv
  2. Or, buy a new nvme and re-install windows an an existing 5800x3d/32gb ram, 7900xtx nitro+?

My main usage is gaming but secondary usage is Ansible/Python/Kubernetes studies. Im hoping for advice or other ideas on the parts please.
PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3PnNzv

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Motherboard: MSI MAG X870E TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
  • Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
  • Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
  • Video Card: Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card (I HAVE THIS FROM MY OLD SYSTEM)
  • Case: Noctua Antec Flux Pro Noctua Edition ATX Full Tower Case
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Total Price under $3k. Im splurging on the Case since I will be buying all Noctua fans anyways since this pc will be under my work desk for more quiet and 64gb of RAM is just crazy. I would love to save a couple of hundred with a MicroCenter deal but I dont want to spend wasted money on 4x 16gb sticks of RAM so I opted for 2x32GB

Or should I just wait until next year for the next level of PC stuff to come out and just buy the NVME and re-install?

EDIT: I purchased the NVME and replaced it but same problem. The only thing left is to replace RAM or send it to Microcenter so they can diagnose it and then most likely replace RAM.

  • SSD Samsung 9100 2TB (It is a gen5 but Im expecting it to cap at gen4 with the old mobo) $350 (already purchased)
  • Microcenter diagnostics $100
  • G.Skill Trident Z Neo Series RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3600 PC4-28800 CL16 Dual Channel Memory Kit F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC $300

That is looking like $750 unless I return the SSD and hope I can recover my old SSD.

Purchased Battletech on Steam today and performance is really bad

I purchased Battletech for a replacement for xcom and holy smokes... the lag is strong with that game! It is so choppy its practically unplayable.

Are there any links/instructions to get the game working smoothly?

  1. I tried windowed mode. But nothing else seems like it worked.
  2. EDIT: I FORGOT MY PC SPECS: VIDEO Settings: 3120/1440 with settings on High.
  3. CPU: AMD 5800x3d RAM: 64gb HD: 2 TB NVME GPU:Radeon 7900xtx
  4. Windows 10

  • New build or upgrade? NEW
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? North XL case and 5080 FE
  • PC purpose? 95% Gaming 5% school
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? MicroCenter Houston
  • Monitors needed? No monitors needed
  • Budget range? Whatever that is needed
  • WiFi or wired connection? WIFI
  • Size/noise constraints? Ideally quiet
  • Color/lighting preferences? Non-rgb preferred
  • Any other specific needs? None

I promised my son to build him a PC due to his grades and Im asking for help!  He chose the North XL mesh case and wants a non-rgb build.  I purchased the case a couple of months ago and I was able to pick up a 5080FE awhile ago.  The rest is what Im guessing he would want.

PcPartPicker list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GqzK3R

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory
Storage: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 X2 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card: NVIDIA Founders Edition GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB Video Card
Case: Fractal Design North XL ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair RM1000x (2024) 1000 W Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Home OEM - DVD 64-bit

I will be going to the MicroCenter store in Houston and my main question is:

  1. Does the Arctic LFIII 360 fit tubes down in a North XL?
  2. My only other possible question is if it is better to use the RM1000x shift or regular PSU?
  3. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.
