BQing shoes needed

38M, 170lbs, mid/forefoot striker going for a BQ in late November after a 3:00:XX PR this spring. What carbon shoes should I be considering and why? I've raced in AP4s (my first and only carbon shoes) for two marathons, two 10ks, and a 5k and I really like them. They feel light, quick, and have good bounce. AP5s would be fine price-wise, but I'd prefer to keep the price in that ballpark and lower.

Gels for 120 total grams of carbs per hour?

I'm 2.5 months out from my next marathon, and I'd like to try increasing my total carbs from 90g/hr to 120g/hr for performance reasons. It looks like a 2:1 or 1:0.8 glucose to fructose ratio is common in gels, but this provides too much glucose... that shouldn't be more than 60g/hr (at least according to Steve Magness).

Are you all aware of gels with a lower ratio?

Capitol Hill Bike Accident - Witnesses Needed

My girlfriend was riding her bike in the bike lane and was run off the road by a person riding a lime scooter travelling the wrong direction in the bike lane. This happened last Tuesday just after 3pm. She was travelling westbound on E Pike Street between Bellevue Avenue and Crawford Place. The crash caused her to lose consciousness, she broke her clavicle, and has numerous skin lacerations. She had to be transported to the Harborview ER for imaging and treatment, and has had to miss work for treatment and recovery. The rider of the Lime scooter fled the scene.

If anyone witnessed the crash, or you were the Lime scooter rider, please DM me. Thanks

Ferry riders: want an easier way to get vehicle reservations for your car on WSF?

It’s summertime so it’s time for beautiful weather and everyone wanting to travel to the islands of Puget Sound. But how do you snag a coveted ferry reservation for your car if it’s busy?

As many experienced travelers will tell you, you can wait in the virtual waiting room at the beginning of the season, wait for one of the scheduled releases, travel standby, or continue checking in to see if there have been any cancellations. There are a lot of cancellations as other travelers' plans change.

As a traveler to the islands I was always annoyed that you couldn’t tell WSF which full sailings you wanted to be on and get notified when there are openings. As a software developer I was able to build this notification system and release it to the public. You enter your travel details (say you want to be on a 2:00pm sailing from Anacortes to Friday Harbor on July 4) and the system will notify you when there’s an opening. It’ll also remind you the day before a scheduled release if it hasn’t found an opening yet.

This makes it more likely that you can travel when you want to travel and saves you time not having to check in.

This is a paid service not affiliated with WSF, and is available now. Enjoy!

Lots of carbs during races are all the rage these days. I’ve got a 90g/hr plan that translates to 11ish gels for a marathon. That’s too many to go in a running belt (or at least mine), so I’ve been wearing a Solomon vest for marathons lately. However, I’ve noticed that almost nobody is wearing a vest at races.

Are folks under fueling? Getting carb drinks / gels at aid stations? Have secret stashes of gels I can’t see?

What’s your secret? Because ditching the vest would probably keep me a bit cooler… and therefore faster.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll give a larger flip belt and some half-tights with side pockets a go.
