Has anyone else noticed that some things at Simmons seem to have got a bit smaller lately?

I usually buy their small white baguettes and make toast sticks with them. I’ve been doing this pretty much every day for the past year, so I’ve got a fairly good idea of how many I normally get from one.

Since about last month, I’ve noticed I’m getting at least a few fewer toast sticks out of each baguette than I used to.

shrinkflation may have reached Simmons too. Anyone noticed anything else getting smaller lately, either there or elsewhere?

Pete Sampras vs Àlex Corretja - 5th set tiebreak at 1996 US Open QF

One of the most dramatic matches of the 1990s. If you don't know about it, I recommend watching the full match. If you can't, just watch this video in full before reading anything about it on the internet

What's the most pointless workplace policy you've come across?

As per title.

Just remembered one from an old job. It was a large company, and there was an actual policy that no team could have two people with the same first name.

The explanation everyone had heard was that some of the company's older internal systems only showed first names. Apparently there were enough approvals, tickets and emails sent to the wrong Nigel or Mohammed that, instead of fixing the software, management decided it was easier to stop teams having duplicate first names.

I've no idea if that's actually why the policy existed, but everyone seemed to accept it.

What are your most “blasphemous” Prydz takes?

Not just unpopular opinions, I mean opinions that go completely against the accepted narrative or the community / fanbase consensus...

Ie a take that, if said loudly enough, would get you exiled from this subreddit, and would entitle you to a cameo on the video someone just posted where Eric slaps everyone, just he could slap you as well 🤣

Question about fares: Hertford via Stevenage vs Finsbury Park

I regularly travel from the City into Hertford. I normally get a Thameslink train to Finsbury Park, then change onto Great Northern to Hertford North. That journey usually costs me around £10.60.

Sometimes Citymapper suggests a faster route: stay on the Thameslink train all the way to Stevenage, then change onto a Great Northern service back to Hertford North. Citymapper always shows this route as costing the same fare.

I tried it once, but I ended up being charged roughly double, so I’ve avoided it since.

Does anyone know whether the Stevenage route should be the same price as changing at Finsbury Park? If it is, did I likely do something wrong (tap in/out issue, wrong ticket, etc.)?

It would be great if I could use the Stevenage route when it’s quicker, but I don’t want to get stung with a much higher fare again.

I am using contactless.

Thanks!

What to do when given too few prescribed meds (antibiotics)

As per title - toddler was discharged and given antibiotics to take for four days, but it only lasted for 3 days.

Spoke to hospital at 8am and nurse said I need to wait for pharmacy to open later today and can't do nothing about it, won't even speak to doctors or anyone.

111 said this needs to be discussed with the hospital. Is this it or is there anything else I can do to get the support I need?

GP also said this is the responsibility of the hospital.

UPDATE: we spoke to the GP once more. They advised us to raise a complaint with the hospital and also sent a prescription to the pharmacy, so all sorted now. This is one of those meds you mix with water and keep in the fridge. The pharmacy mixed everything and gave us the medication ready to be used.

Thanks all for the responses below. It was really useful and helpful!

Extra general waste bag - East Herts collection

my purple general waste bin is full this week, but I have one extra black bag that won’t fit inside.

Does anyone know whether the bin men usually collects an extra bag left next to the bin, or will it be refused?

I am new to the area and the first time I live in a house. I've never had to worry about that before 😂

Which extra ingredient completely changes a dish for the better?

To be clear, what I'm saying is what ingredient on what dish from what place

I was at Nando’s the other day and ordered a pot of chicken gravy and poured it over the chips - it made them ridiculously good and now I don’t think I can go back to ordering them without it.

This got me wondering what other food add-ons / modifications people have discovered when eating out that can transform a dish. Not obvious things like extra cheese on a cheeseburger, but specific ingredients, sauces, toppings or sides that take a particular menu item from decent to brilliant.

Florentino's master plan

Just a few weeks ago the mood around the club was terrible as we failed to win any major trophies, and at the same time, there were reports about Florentino looking at selling a minority stake in the club. After a season like this, you would think that would be a difficult conversation to have with the sócios.

Then he called for elections, and for a few weeks the focus completely changed. Instead of everyone talking about the failure this season was, the conversation became about the election.

Now Madrid’s season is exactly the same as it was a month ago, but Florentino seems to have come out of it with even more authority than before. People are talking about his win, and speculating who are the promised signings rather than the disappointing season we just had.

It feels like he managed to turn a really bad situation into a positive for himself as he has more legitimacy and momentum, making it easier to move forward with projects that may have faced more resistance immediately after the season ended.

- Produtos que façam sentido para um horizonte de pelo menos 2 anos;
- Bancos, corretoras ou instituições financeiras que vocês consideram boas opções hoje;
- Onde vocês procurariam os melhores CDBs e outras alternativas de renda fixa;
- Se existe alguma limitação ou cuidado especial para quem fez saída fiscal definitiva;

Obrigado!

One of the best skateboarding runs ever

Skater: Bob burnquist

Score: 98, gold medal

What is next fucking level: Bobs performance + commentators (one of them is the GOAT Tony Hawk) losing their minds.

Background: Bob skates with so much variety and uniqueness, not only airs and lip tricks (tricks on the metal coping of the ramp), but also switch, which is the opposite stance at which your used to. Similar to writing with your left hand when right handed, or kicking a soccer ball with your opposite foot, quite unnatural.

Some of these tricks were landed for the first time ever on this run and were consequently named during the run which is pretty crazy.

At one stage he flips and catches it upside down, which was the first time ever landed in x-games, and at the end of the run he does a blunt kickflip to fakie (without grabbing the board), which is pretty difficult and scary even on a 4-foot ramp, let alone a 13-footer

The combination of all the above is the reason why Tony Hawk himself can't stop screaming during Bob's run. This was the last run of the whole event too (he ended up with the Gold medal) and one of the most incredible runs ever.

It looks so simple yet it is extremely complex to pull off something like that so smoothly

List of tricks:
Frontside Nosebone

Kickflip Indy

Mute 540

Kickflip Indy to Fakie

Switch Frontside nosebone

Switch Kickflip indy

Darkside to Forward(Kickflip indy where you grab the board upside down.)

boardslide to fakie

fakie 540

Slob Gaytwist

Indy to Fakie

Switch Frontside Ollie

Switch Backside Ollie

Switch rock and roll

fakie 5-0 revert

blunt fakie

halfcab front blunt

boardslide to fakie

gaytwist

blunt kickflip out

switch rock and roll

fakie frontside halfcab front rock

Went to the cinema in Hertford, England today and it felt completely different to 3 days ago. Loads of signs about a government security alert, bag checks on entry, and notices saying police were monitoring things live.

I’m guessing this might be linked to recent events in London and wider international tensions, but does anyone know if this level of security is in response to something specific, or if it’s more of a general precaution at the moment?
