Thinking about fostering

Hi all, I recently lost my best friend Allie, she was a senior cat with many different needs. I’m feeling the loneliness of it all, and was thinking into fostering. I live with my mom and dad (57 and 60) and I’m 18 years old. My older sister comes back and forth between her apartment, she’s 25. We don’t have any little kids, and the house is fairly quiet. We have another cat in the house who roams around, except my room. My senior cat really hated him, so I always shoed him out of my room to spare upsetting her. My room can be offered as a safe, quiet space for a foster. I want to carry on my baby girls legacy, whether it be fostering or adopting, although I don’t think I’m ready to adopt yet, but I want to help. And I know many places need foster homes, I think I could offer a great space for a cat. I would especially love to foster a senior kitty, and have the responsibility of administering medication, etc. I’m very experienced in this field from my angel baby and my cat lemon, they both required a lot of attention in that area. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

I made the decision to put my cat to sleep.

Hi all. Just a quick run down. My cat Alice, may she rest easy, just passed over the rainbow bridge today. It was the most difficult decision to make. She had FIV+, she was a senior and mostly blind. She went downhill pretty quickly. In May of 2025 she had a seizure. Up until now, she had been fine and hadn’t had one since then, but this week on Monday she had another one. Her weight had been up and down for quite some time now, and she recently saw the vet. All of her labs were good, but when we took her in today for vomiting and diarrhea, the vet found she had a heart murmur and told us straight up that she had cancer. This was of course a major shock to me, seeing she had JUST been at the vet and had an extensive health check. She had been vomiting also for a bit now, not everyday but also a little too often. It hit me like a train, but he told us that she was also in pain/discomfort. He said it would be unlikely for her to live for another month. If I would have taken her home, she would just be doped up on pain meds withering away. I don’t want to see her like that. She rested in my arms. I’m going to miss her so much. She was the bestest friend a girl could ever have and no amount of photos can fill the void my heart feels for her. 🙏🏻🪽❤️‍🩹

How to tell if you have dry socket?

Hi all, I got my wisdom teeth out 4 days ago. I’m honestly feeling good. When I have pain, I take the meds and it takes it away for hours. But when it wears off, I start to get achy and throbbing pain. Is this normal? Or is this dry socket? It gets to about 5 out of 10 pain scale. I’m so paranoid about getting dry socket. I’ve been doing everything in the instructions, salt water rinse, gentle brushing the holes, etc.

What is this in my wisdom tooth site? Marked as NSFW cus it’s my mouth

Hi, I just got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday. I noticed this brown crusty stuff on the side of my mouth. Is this the stitches? And why are they stuck in my teeth and not my hole. For some reason the right side of my mouth is significantly worse in terms of food being caked back there. My instructions told me to brush very gently over teeth and extraction sites today, I tried the best I could. I also used a floss pick to floss gently, and as I was flossing over the two teeth the stuff is stuck in, I noticed it started to bleed just a little so I stopped and moved on. I also just rinsed with salt water (1/2 tsp to large glass.) how is everything looking and does anyone know what that is and do I need to be concerned? Apologies for the video, it’s gross. My holes are hidden in my cheek so it’s hard to see the hole.

My HM Experience

Hi all, I started getting HM when I was 13. The day I would note it started was the day I went to go get my contacts fitted. I assumed the aura in my eyes (not known at the time) was from me mucking around with my eyes at the fitting. A couple hours after, I had a horrendous headache. I didn’t think anything of it until one day I woke up at an odd time in the morning during the summer of 2022, and immediately felt something off. I went to go look at myself in the mirror and that’s when I noticed something was off in my vision. There was a spot a couldn’t really see. It was hard to describe. About 30 minutes later I experienced intense tingling spreading throughout my body. Not knowing what this was at the time, I was scared out of my mind. I called my dad and asked him to come home from work because I was scared and didn’t know what was happening to me. He came home, I told him what was happening and we called the pediatrician to ask them about what I was experiencing. I was okay until my dad left to go to the grocery store. I had ended up puking the Advil I had taken earlier and started experiencing extreme GI symptoms. Then the head pain came, it was atrocious. It was a sunny day in July, so it felt like laying in a dark room just wasn’t dark enough. It was literally awful.

Throughout the summer I was still getting them. One day during a school field hockey practice (I was just the manager) I had gotten visual aura. I knew what this was now, so I tried my best to keep my anxiety at bay by helping the girls practice for their game. It was an away game, and I ended up calling my dad to pick me up. As we were driving home, I started to tell my dad something, but it was wrong. What I was TRYING to say came out differently. I knew what I wanted to say, it just wasn’t coming out. My dad took me to the ER. I ended up being fine with a mild to moderate headache. They gave me pain meds and I went home that same night. The next 3 days after felt like hell. I was groggy and exhausted. The hangover was awful.

At this point I knew what I was dealing with. I had another instance in summer of 2024 where I woke up one day experiencing aura. I did my protocol, immediate food and medication to try and curb the headache before it starts. The only good thing about aura is that it’s the warning before the headache. However, for me the aura is unfortunately the worst. My symptoms were different this day. I had been anxious about going to the doctors, and while I was there I started to slur my speech. Prior to the appointment I had visual aura and numbness and tingling down my body. In the car ride home, I started to notice visual drooping in my face and increased slurred speech. I literally sounded drunk. If I was driving and an officer pulled me over I would’ve 100% gone to jail. Anyways, I asked my dad to take me to the ER because this was different than my usual. At the ER my symptoms just will not subside. They usually do after an hour, but this was just ongoing that day. The nurses and doctors did a physical evaluation on me and they were able to see the drooping in my face. I got a CT scan that day and IV fluids with I think antinausea and some pain med pills. The odd part about this all was I did not have head pain at all. The CT came back fine and I was discharged hours later. Since then, I have only had one other instance like that and it subsided pretty quickly with the slurred speech.

One thing I’ve had to deal with is my anxiety. When I started getting HM, my anxiety completely changed. It was deteriorating my life. I remember being 14 and laying in my mom and dad’s bed at night convulsing because of how anxious I was. My migraines are by far the biggest anxiety trigger for me. I still get SO anxious when I have aura, just with everything I’ve been through with HM. It’s not easy when you feel like you’re stroking out. In summer of 2025, I got to see a neurologist and he ordered hematology, ophthalmology, and cardiology tests to rule everything out. I was able to see my heart during the cardiology ultrasound which was cool! Everything came back good, I had an iron deficiency (again) so they put me on an iron supplement. I had an MRI with contrast done in the winter of 2025, so that ruled out any cancer/tumor which of course having anxiety I was worried about. They did a genetic swab on me and I have one gene for HM. I do want to mention that my dad’s side of the family gets migraines, the kind I get specifically seems to resonate with the women. (Of course, we just can’t win ☹️)

In the beginning of my journey with HM, it was very rough. I had to overcome anxiety and learn how I can help myself during an attack. I’m now 17, and I’ve been able to for about a year now go consistently 90+ days without a migraine. I’m extremely proud of myself for how much I’ve grown with my anxiety and the way I deal with HM.

I decided to share my story to all of the girls out there, especially young girls who are/were around my age when they started getting migraines.

It really does get better. I would’ve never thought I’d be in a period of my life where the good days outride the bad. You can do this and you are not alone. ❤️‍🩹 Stay strong, every new day is a new opportunity for it to get better.

Can someone help me figure out what’s going on here?

In the attached photos is my left molar wisdom area which is super swollen and painful. I don’t know if it’s because my wisdom tooth is coming in on that side, or if this needs to be seen soon. I have an appointment June 23rd for a consultation for getting my wisdom teeth removed, but I don’t know when I’ll actually be getting them out. They have to see me first. Until then, what do I do? I have a wisdom tooth on my top right molar that is peeking out, I’ll attach a photo. But none of this happened with that one. I didn’t even know my top right was coming in, I thought it was a crumb that was stuck up there. The first picture is the swollen one (obviously,) and the second one is just my normal wisdom tooth I had no problems with other than occasional pain from it growing. The swollen one is a different pain. Pls help!
