How to determine if my ride is a good candidate for resto-mod?

Context: Despite picking this up back in 2019 (Craigslist, $150) it’s essentially been my commuter for school all this time and thus I’m still quite new when it comes to bicycles and their components and care. I’m at the point now however where I have a bit more free time (and money) and would like to try getting into cycling more seriously and beyond just riding to/from work.

Initially, I had figured I’d need to upgrade to a newer bike for the road (I’m also hoping to pick up a cheap local gravel bike) but then I came across this subreddit. And the ethos is quite appealing. The part I don’t have the knowledge to asses is, and that I’m hoping someone here could help determine, is this old Viner bike actually a platform that would be reasonable to attempt a resto-mod on?

Looking for more information on my Viner road bike

Hi all, I picked up this bike back in 2019 locally to serve as a commuter to school, and at the time the seller told me this was a Viner road bike from the 1990’s. There was no accompanying paperwork or anything, and this frame doesn’t have a model painted or stamped on it, and I was wondering if anyone could confirm if that is true?

Anyone run 18x8 ET 30 before on their E9X?

Hi all,

I have a pre-LCI 328xi E91 at the moment, on a square set up of Style 159 (17x8.5 ET 34) wheels with 225/50R17 tires. Locally a set of BBS XR 18x8 ET 30 popped up and I really like the look - but I was wondering if anyone has run wheels this size before on their E9X and if so, what tires did you use on them? From the tire/wheel comparison websites I’ve used it seems like it should work okay but I would like to be sure.
