Veggie side to to with my turkey meatball lunch meal prep?

I defrosted a pack of lean ground turkey to meal prep for my work lunches next week. I’m either going to prep them as spinach feta sun dried tomato meatballs served without a sauce, or as more plain meatballs mixed with Parmesan and served in a spicy vodka sauce.

I need some kind of vegetable dish to go with this to make it more filling and give me some fiber. I can’t think of what would go well with this. I need something that will keep well throughout the week and also not be too much of a pain to prepare

Contemplating practice group switch

When I first joined my firm my plan was to eventually try to switch into this more specialized practice group which doesn’t take first years that I have a lot of interest yet. They’ve recently had multiple associates leave, and I’ve done a number of projects for them. My friends at the firm have been telling me now is my chance, that they clearly need people, and if I want it to happen I need to ask now. I thought I’d have a few more years to feel out my current practice area before a moment like this arose and don’t feel ready at all to make the choice.

I’m very torn. I still have more interest in the subject matter of the specialty group, but it turns out I love the practice group I’m in now, way more than I thought I would. The people in it are so great, there so many people willing to mentor and help out in my group, and the partners are very friendly. I worry that this is a bad thing to base my decision off of, because my practice area determines what I’ll be doing for my entire career and people come and go, so there’s no guarantee they’ll be here forever. But I feel really loathe to give up that support system. There are great people in the specialty group as well, but it’s a lot smaller and the vibe I get is that they’re a lot more high pressure with high expectations, a lot less handholding. Granted, I don’t actually know that since I haven’t been a sort of it. Maybe I’m just attached to my group and imagining the other is worse. They actually do have a known nightmare partner though. The best way I can describe my perceived difference is that while my group bills a lot and is incredibly busy, there’s sort of a we work to live mindset, whereas the other group feels more live to work and is less tolerant of having a life. But of course, this is just the vibe I’ve gotten.

I just worry that I might push for this move and then completely regret my choices once I’ve switched. But if I let the opportunity pass me by and stay in an area I’m less passionate about, maybe I’ll regret that more in the long run. But from a practical perspective, I also think that because the other group is niche, if i do decide to leave it may be a lot harder lateraling or getting a position in house under that niche, whereas the broader experience in my current group provides more exit opportunities.

Theres also the other factor of i don’t even know if they would agree to let me switch, so if I bring it up and then don’t get switched, it might get back to my group and ruin a good thing I had going

Showtunes featuring angry mobs?

I’m creating a playlist of songs from musicals with an angry mob, since I love them. I have a shortlist below, but I’m sure there must be more. Any suggestions?

March of the Witch Hunters (Wicked)

The Mob Song (Beauty and the Beast)

Trial Before Pilate (Jesus Christ Superstar)

Scandal (The Light Princess)

Let’s say you wake up in one of the Vault 111 pods right now with all your knowledge of the game but only your real life skills and what you have on you at the moment. What’s your survival strategy and how long are you making it?

I think there’s a high chance I get killed by the radroaches in the first ten minutes. But I have a Diet Coke on me right now so I’m assuming that works like Nuka Cola and would give me enough action points to beat them. I would grab the pip boy and pistol, and hopefully VATS would work well enough that despite my zero in real life firearm experience I could book it to Abernathy Farm without getting killed by a random mongrel. Assuming my memory of how to get there from Vault 111 is correct, I would then sell my watch as “junk” to Connie Abernathy to get some more ammo. I don’t have a lot of faith in my ability to survive the trek to diamond city so from that point on I’d probably spend the rest of my life picking melons for Lucy for 3 caps apiece and eventually getting killed in the first raider attack.

Alternatively, if I’m brave enough and can save up my caps for good enough weapons, I could probably tag along when a caravan passes follow them to Vault 81. I’d rather live there for the food and running water. They don’t typically let outsiders live there, but assuming the sole survivor hasn’t completed the mole rat disease quest yet, I could find the cure for Austin and be accepted into their society as a hero.

What’s a minor thing you implemented that’s helped you a ton in this career?

I set my outlook to have a one minute delay before sending emails. It’s saved me so many heart attacks when an email is accidentally sent early or I realize I forgot to attach something

Favorite Icelandic books?

I’m visiting Iceland for the first time in a month, and I would love to set the mood by reading some books new or on the flight that are set in Iceland. Anyone have recommendations for books by Icelandic authors or set in Iceland?

Gift for assistant?

My assistant (not just mine, assigned to me and two other people) saved my ass today helping out with a huge task with a tight deadline that I didn’t have time for because I had a million other things due. Is it appropriate to get him a gift Monday to thank him, and if so what’s a good gift?

Is anyone else who uses HBO getting the same ad over and over again? I had an ad break with five ads that were just the same commercial repeated over and over again five times. It’s unbearable

I didn’t think I would go institute, but I’m getting tempted

I knew about the reveal before starting. I felt strongly that I would do a railroad run after doing that quest where you save H-22 and hearing how terrible his time at the institute was and saving him. I felt like my Nate would’ve been moved by the experience and played it with him as a diehard railroad supporter.

After making it to the institute, I was surprised how effective that first meeting with Shaun was even knowing ahead of time. When he asks about whether I could grow to love the kid synth Shaun I felt conflicted. Looking at the terminals and seeing his message about how important my arrival was to him personally also made me feel some kind of way.

I still felt conflicted and resisted doing the libertalia quest, until deciding that Nate would do it under the guise of his double agent task, but really because he felt he owed it to his son to hear him out. Coming back after that and hearing Shaun fondly address Nate as “Father”, I thought wow, this is what Nate’s wanted the whole time. The whole point of all of this was to find his son, and now he’s found him, and he wants a relationship with him. How could he possibly turn against him now, even when he stands against everything Nate believes in? Then he gives Nate his own room and promises him a safe place to stay. I walk over there and Nate passes tons of institute people who praise and compliment him. I enter this pristine room with a clean bed, a shower, a working bathroom.

I’m just like, wow, I can really see how Nate would be seduced by this life. He would get to live in a pristine, safe, comfortable environment like his pre-war life instead of the squalor and danger of the above ground world. He would get to be with his son, the only family he has left. He can avoid thinking about the destruction of the world above and how his family was ripped apart.

Now I’m at the point where Shaun has asked me to take Bunker Hill. I have the option to inform the railroad. This is the moment for me where I think Nate has the chance to make that evil heel turn and align himself with the institute. I’ve already played it that he fully believes in the railroads mission and that synths should be free. He would be turning his back on his values, and his former allies, reclaiming synths when he’s previously vowed to save them, in order to live in this comfortable lie and be with his son. I honestly don’t know which path to take here

S6E17 - why did she do that?

Just watched season 6 episode 17. Did anyone else cringe the whole time Carrie decided to take her friends to go surprise the Russian? Why did she do that? Why didn’t her friends stop her or tell her it was a bad idea? It was so clear it wouldn’t go over well.

It was rude of him to begin with to cancel on their dinner, and once they should up he should’ve been more polite and put on a good face + made some introductions and then apologize and say he had to get back to his work. That being said, if I had to work late and told my partner that, and my partner “surprised” me by showing up at my house while I was working with a bunch of friends I’ve never met before expecting me to drop what I’m doing and host and entertain them, I’d also be annoyed!

Interesting corporate law topics to present on?

As the most junior associate in the department I’m expected to do a presentation during every single department meeting (so more or less once a month). It’s supposed to be about some new or interesting development in corporate law, or in California law that can affect our business. For example, a past presentation was on incorporation clauses into NDAs prohibiting or narrowing disclosure to AI chat bots, and another one was on new California climate reporting requirements that affects businesses of a certain size

I managed to get out of it this month but I need something for July. I’ve been stalking law360, various firms client alerts, random legal blogs, and nothing. It’s also tough because everyone else on the meeting is a more senior and experienced corporate attorney, so there’s very little I would know that they wouldn’t already know.

Does anyone have suggestions on other places I can look for topic ideas, or better yet suggestions for a presentation topic? Have there been any trends or new developments that your firm has been talking about?

I think I fucked up by saying I was at capacity

A partner from a different department has been consistently giving me assignments. I always take them because I find his line of work really interesting and would like to be more involved in it. However he’s supposed to be looping in our department head / asking for permission between giving me assignments, and he never does. So I just loop in my department head whenever I accept one of these.

My department is swamped because we just had an associate quit and I had to take over all of his projects. The clients for all of his and the projects I’m already on want stuff signed by next week. This partner gave me around 2 different assignments last week and when I told my department head, he said I could do them “as long as it doesn’t interfere with your work in this department.”

Around 7 pm on Wednesday that partner calls me to go over the second assignment I was working on for him. I think that’s the end of it, and halfway through the call he says there’s another project he’d like me to work on if I have time. He starts describing it and it sounds extremely time consuming and also is not an area I have expertise in (it’s an IP issue, which is neither of our departments). I start packing thinking of all the stuff I still have to do for my department, and how I’m not supposed to let my work for him interfere with it. So I ask when he needs it by and say that my department is swamped so would next week work. He says he’d want an answer by Friday and if I can’t do that he’ll just ask someone from the IP department to do that. I agree that he should probably do that.

Did I fuck up? Now that time has passed I realize I could’ve probably done his assignment and all my department stuff if I resigned myself to not getting any sleep and working all weekend. Which as much as that sucks is what that partner does and probably what he expects. He seemed annoyed and I’m worried it left a bad impression and he’s never gonna want to work with me again

How to finish up tub of disgusting protein powder?

I bought a huge tub of ISO100 chocolate protein powder a while ago and I really dislike it. I had pure shake form (just powder and water) as much as a could until I couldn’t take it anymore.

I’ve tried using it to make ninja creamis as I find the taste of bad protein powder usually mellows once it’s frozen, but no luck. Adding it to my smoothies just ruins the taste of the smoothie. I’ve tried using it in my chia pudding and overnight oats and adding stuff to mask the flavor like cocoa powder, almond butter, or coffee, but to no luck.

Anyone have any tips for using this up? Is there anything I should be adding to make the chocolate flavor taste better? Should I bake with it? Or is it a lost cause?

Also, does anyone have a chocolate protein powder they recommend that tastes better 😭
