99 Classic Sci-Fi & Horror Movies — Daily Elimination Game: DAY 1

Good evening! Thank you for all the comments on my last post (linked below). For anyone just joining us, I’ve been slowly convincing my friends to watch classic horror and sci-fi films from the 1950s and early ’60s. After your excellent suggestions, the list has now grown to exactly 99 films (pictured).

So, to mark the milestone, I’ll be running a daily elimination game featuring 99 sci-fi, horror, and monster movies from the 1950s and early ’60s, plus King Kong (1933).

Each day, vote for your least favorite movie in the comments. The film with the most votes will be eliminated, and we’ll continue until only one remains. Votes will be counted based on a combination of upvotes and individual comments. Any ties will be selected at random.

The first round starts right now. Grab some popcorn, and let the eliminations begin!

UPDATE: Forcing my friends to watch 1950s Sci-Fi Monster Movies

Hey everyone!

A few days ago I shared the tier list my friends and I have been building as we work our way through classic 1950s sci-fi and monster movies. HUGE thank you to everyone who commented on the previous post.

We've updated our watchlist and added 12 new films based on suggestions from the comments. Looking forward to seeing how they stack up against the movies we've already watched.

As always, I'd love to hear any additional recommendations, predictions for where these new additions might land, or arguments for why we're completely wrong about certain movies.

(And yes, I'm aware some of you are still recovering from where we ranked Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Day the Earth Stood Still. I'm sorry.)

Forcing my friends to watch 1950s Sci-Fi Monster Movies: A Potentially Controversial Tier List

For the past few years, a group of friends and I have been making our way through a lot of classic 1950s (and a few early 1960s) sci-fi and monster movies. As we've gone along, we've been ranking everything in a tier list and arguing endlessly about where each film belongs.

I figured I'd share our rankings and see what other fans think.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, recommendations for films we may have missed, or any movies you think deserve a watch. And if you're curious about why a particular film ended up where it did, I'd be happy to explain our reasoning.

Yes, I'm writing this from a Metro train right now after someone just forced their way through the gate behind me.

This isn’t a rare thing either. I see people hop or tailgate through the faregates all the time. It feels like it happens at pretty much every station, every day.

So I’m genuinely curious:

Why is fare evasion so widespread on WMATA?

Is there actually any deterrent or enforcement in place?

Are there penalties that just aren’t being enforced?

And is there even a way to report fare evasion when you see it happen?

I’m not trying to start a fight about it - I’m just confused. It feels like the system relies on people paying, but there’s nothing really stopping people who don’t.

Would love to hear from anyone who knows how WMATA handles this or if anything is being done about it.
