safety tips for a short trip

hello! im 21 and i’ve never been tent camping before but i really want some me time so i was thinking of renting a tent and a sleeping bag from my local university and taking a road trip to the sandhills for a weekend. i would stay in an established campground as i have no experience with more primitive types of hiking/camping. but im not sure if this is a good idea, would it be dangerous to go alone? what can i do to stay safe?

how are you staying warm???

listen i know it’s summer with big heat waves and all that but the ac in my apartment functions beautifully and doesn’t really cost that much either. the issue is my roommate keeps lowering it to 68° which doesn’t sound that low but it actually feels like 55° to me and im always freezing!!

im not sure if this is hashimotos related cold intolerance or my body still adjusting after spending 4 months in central american heat… but i need tips on how to stay warm preferably without spending a fortune on a space heater

cat peeing over litter box sides advice

my cat keeps peeing right over the edge of her litter box and it’s getting annoying to clean up. for people who also had this problem, is a litter box with 12” tall sides good enough? Everything taller than 12” has a base height of 8” which might be too tall for my senior girl but i’m wondering if it’s worth it

confusion comparing calorie content

Im switching my cat from wellness age advantage to hills 11+ and Im confused about the calories and serving sizes. The wellness one is less calorie dense and recommends 74g for a 10lb cat (equals about 257 calories), while the hills is much more calorie dense and recommends 85g or 343 calories for a 10 lbs cat. That feels like way too much for a cat?? My vet recommended 1/2 cup kibble a day but that would be such a huge difference between these two brands I’m not sure how to interpret the calorie differences.

also, it makes no sense to me how the wellness dry food alone recommendation is 1/2 cup kibble but when combined with wet food it’s still 1/2 cup plus a 3oz can, like are the wet food calories just supposed to disappear??

please help me understand this 🙏🙏

edit to add: the shelter i adopted her from said they had been giving her 1/4 cup kibble + 3oz can daily and that just seems like so little and just as confusing because every can of wet food has wildly different caloric content and i’m just kind of at a loss with all of the different information

Brazilian Portuguese learning materials for a Spanish speaker

Im a native english speaker but also fluent in Spanish and I thought it would be easier to learn portuguese from a Spanish mindset since the languages are so similar (plus it would help reinforce my spanish skills). I can read (decipher) basic Portuguese based off of my spanish knowledge and I’m wondering if there are any resources (podcasts, videos, etc) that cater towards a spanish speaking audience.

advice for learning rural accents

im currently studying a variety of my TL that is hard enough to find online resources on (tv shows, podcasts, etc) for the dialect in general, and while I’ve made it to a point where I can hold conversations with just about anybody in an urban setting but I’m struggling to get to that level of fluency with rural/less educated speakers. There is already so little information/resources online for my TL dialect that I don’t know how to go about finding even more specific information about rural speakers. Is there something I can do to master this sub-dialect without having access to people who actually speak it?

storing big bags of food

I'm thinking about switching my cat's dry food to hill's science diet 11+. I know it's recommended to use a bag of food within 4-6 weeks after opening it so it stays fresh and flavorful for cats but I'm wondering if there's a way I can store a larger bag for longer since it's much cheaper to buy the 15.5lb bag instead of the smaller bags

add calories to wet food

if i added extra chicken or some sort of fish to my cat’s food to add calories would that mess up the nutritional content? asking because my cat only eats one brand of canned food and it’s expensive with only 50 calories per can and i want to get my moneys worth out of it

changing wet food

i was having a hard time finding a wet cat food that my cat doesn’t straight up refuse and i finally found one, can i give her the whole can right away or do i have to transition slowly like with kibble? if so what does that look like, is it the same 7-10 day process? i have a few more cans i want her to to try before going all in on this one because it’s a bit pricey, so would it be okay to keep switching things up over the next few days or will that be hard on her stomach (assuming she actually eats it)?

currently giving her around 1/2 cup kibble daily, hoping to get her eating around 1/4 cup kibble and a can of wet food each day

why does my cat attack my blankets

i adopted her about a month ago and she only started doing this about a week ago. it’s cute during the day but annoying when she pounces on my blankets and therefore my legs during the night which wakes me up. i even thought maybe there’s some sort of bugs in there that she’s trying to attack so i washed all my bedding and she still does it. i’m wondering if this is just her true personality finally coming out after finally getting comfortable in my house or if there might be something else, thoughts?
