XBXPlay: Huge New Update Available - Modern UI, 1080p HQ, FSR Upscaling & More 🎉

The huge new XBXPlay Android update is finally here 🎉

This one took quite a while to develop and is one of the biggest XBXPlay updates released so far. It follows the big PXPlay update from about a month ago and brings Xbox Remote Play on Android to the next level.

The update includes a completely new modern UI, new video quality options, microphone support, external display improvements, Android widgets, and much more.

Download

Google Play Store

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grill.xbxplay

What's new?

* Brand-new modern UI (for TV and standard version)

* FSR 1.0 Video Upscaling support

* 1080p High Quality resolution support

* Experimental local multiplayer support

* Microphone support

* Optional performance overlay

* External display support

* Android Widget support for Home Screen

* Performance and stability improvements

The new 1080p High Quality mode allows higher bitrates, and the optional FSR 1.0 upscaling can further improve image quality beyond the usual remote play limits.

What's next?

I'm also working on frame generation and an additional Vulkan rendering pipeline for supported devices, which should further improve video quality in the future.

A prototype is already working, but it still needs more testing. I'm currently aiming for sometime around mid or end of summer.

Feedback

If you run into any issues with the new UI, 1080p HQ mode, FSR upscaling, microphone support, external displays, local multiplayer, Android widgets or anything else, please let me know.

Thanks again for all the support, testing and feedback ❤️

Have fun with the new XBXPlay update!

P.S. A standalone APK version without Google dependencies will also be available in a few weeks. It will be downloadable directly from my website, similar to the PXPlay APK release.

PXPlay Android v8.1.1 is live - fixes, stability improvements and what's next

The full PXPlay Android v8.1.1 release is now officially available.

After the big v8.0.0 update, which introduced the new modern UI and many improvements, and the v8.1.0 update, which added dualscreen support, this new version focuses mainly on bug fixes, stability improvements and polishing the new second-display functionality.

Dualscreen support was mainly built for devices like the AYN Thor, but it can also be used with regular Android smartphones or tablets by connecting an external monitor, TV or portable display.

This update improves that experience further and fixes several reported issues.

APK

https://github.com/streamingdv/PSPlay-Application-Hosting/releases/download/v2.0.0_v8.1.1/PXPlay_Android_v8.1.1.apk

What's new?

Bug fixes and improvements

  • Improved second-display detection so virtual displays, such as screen-recording or casting surfaces, are ignored and the real monitor is selected.
  • Fixed the DualSense touchpad click not working while a custom gamepad mapping was active.
  • Fixed recently played game artwork and profile avatars getting stuck or not refreshing. (there was also a PSN outage involved in that yesterday)
  • Improved PSN account token handling and recovery from faulty tokens.
  • Fixed a crash on some multi-monitor setups, for example on Samsung Galaxy S25 devices.
  • Fixed the aspect-ratio button not showing on a second display.
  • Fixed an image-upscaling EGL rendering issue.
  • Smaller fixes and stability improvements.

XBXPlay and VITURE update

I will also release a new XBXPlay (Xbox remote play) update soon.

VITURE has already received the latest PXPlay update and will probably release it together with the new XBXPlay version once they receive the XBXPlay update, which is currently planned for the end of June.

What's next?

In parallel, I am also working on an additional Vulkan rendering pipeline with more video quality enhancements and frame generation support. If everything goes well, this may arrive for both PXPlay and XBXPlay around the middle of summer.

At the beginning of July, I will continue working on the PC and iOS / Apple TV updates to bring over the remaining missing features to these platforms.

The iOS / Apple TV version will most likely require the most work, as I plan to completely rework the UI and bring it closer to the modern Android experience.

Feedback

If you run into any issues please let me know. As always, the goal is to keep offering one of the smoothest and highest-quality Remote Play experiences possible, and with the upcoming platform updates, PXPlay should become even better across all supported devices ❤️

Thanks again for all the support, testing and feedback. If you have any feature requests, please feel free to share them. I always try my best to make useful improvements happen whenever possible.

Have fun with PXPlay v8.1.1!

PXPlay v8.1.0 adds Dualscreen support for AYN Thor 🎮📺

Dev of PXPlay speaking here. I finally got my Thor last week and I could start testing multi-display support on PXPlay properly. For those who don't know PXPlay (formerly known as PSPlay) is a 3rd party PS remote play app.

The full PXPlay Android v8.1.0 release is now officially available on the Google Play Store and offers Dualscreen support 🎉

The feature was mainly built with devices like the AYN Thor in mind, but it also works on regular Android phones or tablets when connecting an external monitor, TV, or portable display.

With this new mode, you can show the actual stream on the big screen while the Thor or your Android device only displays the virtual on-screen gamepad layout. So the device can basically act as a customizable virtual controller while the game itself is displayed on the larger screen. The feature can of course be disabled in the new Display settings in PXPlay.

More Android improvements are planned, including some bigger rendering-related changes coming next.

The Thor is a really awesome device. Let me know what you think, and feel free to share any feedback ☺️

PXPlay Android v8.1.0 is OUT NOW - Dualscreen support has arrived 🎮✨

The full PXPlay Android v8.1.0 release is now officially available.

After the big v8.0.0 update, which introduced the new modern UI and many improvements, this update adds another major feature:

Dualscreen support 🎉

This feature was mainly built for devices like the AYN Thor, but it can also be used with regular Android smartphones or tablets by connecting an external monitor, TV or portable display.

For example, you can show the stream on the big screen while your smartphone only displays the virtual on-screen gamepad layout. So your phone can basically act as a customizable virtual controller while the actual game is shown on the larger display.

What’s new?

  • Dualscreen support

  • Custom second-screen on-screen layouts

  • New Display settings

  • Smaller fixes and stability improvements

What’s next?

There are still more Android improvements planned. One bigger thing I want to work on next is a new Vulkan rendering pipeline, which could also allow additional video quality enhancements in the future, such as debanding and other rendering-related improvements.

After this Android update, I will also continue working on the other platforms like PC, iOS / Apple TV, and the XBXPlay Android update.

Feedback

If you run into any issues with dualscreen mode, HDMI output, custom layouts, controller input, Android TV behavior or anything else, please let me know.

Thanks again for all the support, testing and feedback ❤️

Ayn Thor - PXPlay Dualscreen improvements coming soon 🎮🎉

I finally got my **AYN Thor** last week, and I’m excited to share that I’ve now managed to bring **Dualscreen support** to **PXPlay**! 🎮✨

With the upcoming update, you’ll be able to create a **custom on-screen layout for the second screen**, and there will also be dedicated new **Display settings** in the main settings section.

Dualscreen support will also work on standard Android devices that support **HDMI output**. For example, you can plug your Android device into a TV, show the stream view on the big screen, and use your Android device itself as a virtual on-screen gamepad. 📺📱

And of course, if Dualscreen isn’t your thing, it can be completely disabled in the settings.

The new **8.1.0 update** will probably be released **by next week**. After that, I’ll start working on the **PC and iOS / Apple TV updates** in parallel with the **XBXPlay Android update**.

There are still more Android improvements in the works too, including a new **Vulkan rendering pipeline** with quality enhancements like **debanding** and more. These still need additional testing, so they’ll probably arrive around **mid-summer**. 🚀

More information soon!

I just published another small follow-up bugfix release for the big v8.0.0 update.

This update focuses mainly on stability and edge cases reported after the v8.0.1 release. Most users were already fine, but a few specific devices exposed some annoying issues that needed another round of fixes.

The most important fix is for automatic connection via IP address and widget-started connections when the console is in rest mode. These paths now send a wake-up signal first before trying to connect, which should make auto-connect much more reliable when using a manually configured IP address.

This release also includes additional fixes for:

  • Android TV auto-connect reliability on some buggy devices
  • Native USB gamepad connection stability
  • Rare decoder / MediaCodec teardown crashes
  • Rare ANR reports during disconnect or stream shutdown
  • A PSN troubleshoot back-button crash
  • EGL / upscaling teardown stability on some Android TV devices

A big thanks again to everyone who sent logs, crash reports, and tested builds, especially users with problematic Android TV devices. These edge cases are almost impossible to reproduce without real-world feedback.

If you had problems with auto-connect, widgets, or Remote Play from rest mode, please give v8.0.2 a try.

For full details about the major v8.0.0 update, please also check the original v8.0.0 release post.

Home screen and console management got several new options.

  • Add registered consoles directly to the Android home screen
  • Start sessions faster from widgets
  • Wake-Up button support on widgets
  • Option to show only one registered console card per screen

  • Many stability refinements
  • Lots of smaller fixes and polish based on beta feedback

🥽 VITURE support

I will provide the new APK version to VITURE in the next few days as well, so PXPlay v8.0.0 should also become available on their VR glasses once they roll out their next firmware update.
