I read you an excerpt from Deadwood creator David Milch's memoir

If anyone needs a few minutes of recollections about Milch's father and uncle and grandfather from the beginning of his memoir read to them by a c*cks*cker who happily just bought the book, here it is: https://youtu.be/5XVIKIv9uME?si=o9F0UBjky2ISjCma&t=80

There is a bit of lead up at the front because I'm allowing for the fact that it's posted to my social media accounts primarily and I'm giving folks time to scroll over, consider it, hit 'unmute', etc. And I explain what the book is and who David is and why I care. So the link above should bypass all that unauthorized cinnamon for you, free gratis.

Who do you think Potter's Field is about, specifically?

I've always loved the tune, but never grasped WHO it's specifically about. My first impressions as a teenager were that it sounded like some involuntarily resurrected figure out for revenge. Some religious imagery in there, but not Christlike. He'll "bring down the rapture" if I heard it correctly? And will "find love in what I steal".

Did I miss the point entirely? Has Scott spoken about this one somewhere? I'd love to hear your thoughts and corrections if you got 'em.

Resistor in battery box for active bass

Edit: Thanks for the correction re: DIODE, not resistor. I swear I knew that, but my brain's vocabulary did a swap on me today. I have soldered diodes and resistors and capacitors into circuit boards before, but I totally screwed up when posting this question. Anyway, thanks again to all of you who responded. Cheers!

This thing has two circuits, one for the fretless half of the neck and one for the fretted half of this seven string battlemech of an instrument. It's owned by a friend and the whole thing is run one one 9v battery. I noticed that the weak battery terminal cap was definitely preventing consistent signal and I mean to replace it with a hard plastic one instead of the original floppy vinyl one. I see there's a resistor wired into the battery box in line with the red and black wires and I'm just curious if anyone knows what the purpose is. For my own edification. Curious if it's something I'd like to add to active circuits in my own guitars someday. Would also appreciate suggestions on where to crosspost. (I'm a luthier of 26 years with factory and repair shop experience in wiring, if that's a factor in anyone's response.) Thanks, all!

The video where Pat goes on an awesome rant while "The Rocker" by Thin Lizzy plays underneath

I told myself I'd remember this, the last time I saw it. But it's left my memory. I wanna say it was one of the earlier WMTSS full lengths or earlier "Little Stinkers". Pat's definitely sitting under the pedal mobile when he starts going off. It always reminds me how fantastic the guitar tone in this song is and how fun and borderline parodic the lyrics are. It sounds like Phil Lynott is sending up braggadocious tough guys that shoot their mouths off in his own scene. Or just doing an outsized autobiography in song form.

So if you know which of Pat's videos I'm trying to remember, please help!

"Juggle your way to health and beauty..."

Anyone remember a viking singing that on a video being watched at the start of a very old Half in the Bag episode? Has anyone here successfully juggled their way to beauty and health? Or know what the fuck I'm even talking about? Or what the story is behind that footage?

Recording session details for guitar nerds?

I did a preliminary search in the subreddit for this topic, so correct me if it's been covered before. But do the guitar playing fans here have resources for detailed info on what amps and guitars Robbie recorded with on specific songs and albums? Plus other info like the little resistor + capacitor circuit that (I think) Bruce Botnick provided for Robbie's fuzz guitar on songs like "When the Music's over". Instead of stepping on a Fuzz Face or Maestro pedal like Hendrix and Keith Richards, respectively, Robbie was supposedly going straight into the mixing board when tracking fuzz tones with this little circuit wired straight into the channel.

I have read Robbie's book, Ray's book and John's book years ago and don't recall there being more than a casual mention here and there of his Gibson Melody Maker and SG on varioius sessions. Looking more for track specific stuff if you all know of any treasure troves out there I'm ignorant of.

Thanks in advance, and don't forget to get your kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

I need your fave Gareth character episodes, pls

Hook me up with episode #s for your favorite flights of fancy from this spunky ginger man that let Dave play the semi-confused straight character asking him what he's doing. Daddy needs smiles for the drive to work, and the day at work, and the drive home, and I've only been listening for the last 4 months.
