airstream for backyard owner stay
id like to get some feedback from the airstream community.
i would like to make a place to stay at the property i will be renting out in the next year or so. its a run down house and property that im fixing up (southern california). eventually wife and i would retire here many years from now. i dont live in the area, and will be coming to manage the landscaping and upkeep, 3 times a year for 2~3 weeks at a time. i might just make a bootleg tiny home in the old small garage, but that will take time that i might not have. my FB marketplace feed recently showed me some airstreams, and it was a little surprising what nice airstreams one can get for $10,000~20,000. i recently saw one that was half gutted and with excellent bones for around $11,000. im very capable of finishing out something like that. anyway…
im interested in getting an airstream and parking it in the back yard, in a relatively protected area, and using it for me and my wife to stay in for these short trips. that would be the only use. 100% no one else would ever use it. the two questions are…
- is an airstream a good choice for something like this? can i keep it from leaking and the rodents out?
- does anyone have any sense about the legality for this? im pretty sure i cant hard plumb and wire the trailer. but if it stay on the wheels and i connect it with a regular hose, plug in electrical, and a waste water flexible pipe, would i be technically breaking some zoning/planning regulations?
what other issue am i missing that could make this a bad idea?
if you have ideas about other threads subreddits to check out, let me know.
thanks!
