I recently listened to an interesting podcast about Aotearoa history on History Hit - The Ancients podcast.
Got me thinking - what are some other recommendations for good quality history of Aotearoa podcasts?

The legendary Alice Taylor shows excellent cheap recipes on her Instagram & TikTok
She has amazing cake recipes - have tried a few. I have been making the Depression Chocolate Cake and it is great for kids’ snacks. While family loves it, great save money on treats.
I made 2 of these yesterday, made 48 portions which I froze down individually in re-usable snack bags.
Cost: less than $2 nzd (approx) for the whole cake!
Ingredients
1 cup hot coffee or boiling water
¼ cup cocoa
1 cup sugar
½ cup oil
1 tbsp vinegar
1½ cups plain flour
1 tsp baking soda
Method
Whisk together coffee, cocoa, sugar, oil and vinegar.
Add the flour and baking soda and mix until just combined.
Pour into a lined cake tin and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for around 40 minutes, or until a skewer when inserted in the middle comes out clean.
For the syrup (optional):
Mix together ½ cup sugar, ½ cup boiling water and ¼ cup cocoa until smooth.
Piece holes in the cake when it comes out of the oven and drizzle the syrup on while the cake is still warm.
I imagine that being anonymous largely didn’t exist in pre-agricultural human society. The gradual movement to permanent settlements, food surplus and large urban dwellings - did this also give rise to being anonymous?
Would it be plausible to assume that the human brain didn’t evolve in an environment where one could be anonymous? What are the drivers that seem to constantly push humans to crave anonymity? (Is it linked to a similar drive towards individualism?)
I would like to know if anyone can recommend reading or studies related to this from a human evolution POV.
The proverb ‘Birds of a feather flock together’ always seems like an old timey English saying. TIL it is actually from Ancient Greek!!!? So… how the heck does it rhyme? (Not an actual perfect rhyme but you know what I mean?)
Did it have the same rhymey vibe in Ancient Greek like it does in English parlance?
Lateness - I have been late all my life. I have tried and still try everything to be on time. The advice people give me is just pure triggering for me. I hate being late, am always late, and hate the comments, the advice people give me. Instead of exploding in rage, what do you say instead?
“You have so much potential” Ngl I hate hearing this with all my soul!!! All I hear is “you have wasted your life - wtf is wrong with you?” I don’t know what to say but laugh and say “well one of these days I could surprise you…. lol …”
Tell me your triggers, but please also tell me the best way you deal with it (and obvs this is not for ppl u can be unmasked with etc - more like work & acquaintance type ships)
I had ZERO clue what it was. I was in complete ignorance. I would say I was very un-blissfully un-aware. My only references were hyperactive naughty boys at school & content creators suddenly taking over instagram with their latest fad.
Looking back, the only reason I was so resistant to being diagnosed was that instagram & tiktok misrepresented it to be funny-annoying personality quirks. Almost always self-diagnosed.
For me it has destroyed my whole life which al>!most ended abruptly.!< I still feel angry about how badly information is distorted. For some and not all, it can have a devastating impact in our lives. Especially if you grow up completely ignorant like me and then have a stubborn pig headed mindset like me - it’s a recipe for disaster.
How can the rest of society know about it when random content creators just turn it into a fad, and the name itself is a relic of the past. Do we need to rename this thing??? I never say I have adhd because ppl have often zero clue what it is.
( for the Reddit rant earlier - I hear you - but yeah everyone has a different journey, plus you can’t just invent stats)
I have been on a literal hamster wheel with this game for months chasing those COM simcash rewards. I eventually got to 10k and am now taking this season off to just chill and enjoy low stress game play. Anyone else? If so, what do you focus!on? For me I’m storage-maxing and just making stuff to sell. Amazing how fast the simoleans build up!
I was going to do that last season but saw the buildings offerings and loved them too much. Luckily this Vienna theme is not my cup-of-tea
I struggle with this. 43(m) diagnosed 1 year ago, lifelong self-loather.
My life is currently terrible, but it wasn’t always :) over time, I have let myself and a lot of ppl in my life down, and it seems, more recently.
Years of secret self loathing seems to have finally caught up with me and I find that I can’t even really look in the mirror without effort. (I think that’s why I struggle to shower daily tbh)
Looking for actual things that helped you / worked? Open to any ideas :)
I pretend / mask my real thoughts almost all of the time. From feigning ignorance / surprise at something, to outright lying, I have lived most of my 40years pretending to be a bit stupid.
Honestly, feel quite shit about it because when I drop that mask on rare occasions, mostly ppl don’t like me or how tuned-in I really am. I both loathe myself (actual inner self) and have ever growing hate for the version I think ppl want me to be.
I’m very stuck. Any, (and I mean ANY) help would be appreciated. Tell me your thoughts on this. Stories, anecdotes, theories - please - all will be welcome.
