Question for Western students:

Im considering going to western but I have a few questions:

- how is the diversity at western?
- does western offer a good social life & academics balance?
- does the large campus bother you? Ive heard that one of the major cons is how big the campus is.
- would you say London is a student city? How is the nightlife?
- would I be able to have the “classic fun college experience “?
- are students supposed to? (Like do profs actually care about their students or are they tough like uoft)

All answers would be highly appreciated!!

How is the social life at mac?

I have been considering Western and McMaster for social sci. I want to go to a school where id have a “fun college experience “ but also where academics are prioritized. Does mac have a good campus/social life? Is there a good nightlife? Does mac have a “community” feel or is everyone more on their own since it’s known as a commuter school?

Western or McMaster?

Im planning to go to social sci but have no idea which university I should choose. Here are things that I would like in a university:
- diversity
- good social life/campus life (& nightlife)
- good academics/social life balance
- good psychology program
- preferably good student support
- nice campus

Would love to hear from people that have attended either of these schools!

How hard is it to get into Mac engineering?

My main questions are:

  1. how hard is it generally to get in? (If you were accepted into the program what were your stats)
  2. will my mid grade 11 marks affect admission if I do better in grade 12?
  3. How much do they care about extracurriculars?
  4. how can i prepare for my supplementary applications?

Any responses would be really helpful and highly appreciated!!!

Is psych nursing as “dangerous” as it seems?

Not trying to come off as insensitive, but is being a psych nurse as scary and as dangerous as it seems? Do you feel on edge all shift?

Does anyone else’s ocd latch on to their insecurities?

My ocd makes my insecurities 10x times worse. It causes me to hyper fixate on my insecurities and makes my obsession with them consume me. When I say that I have been obsessing over them, I genuinely mean it. I spend hours and hours worrying about a small insecurity that seems so big to me that others probably don’t even notice. Yes, I know that insecurities are generally unpleasant and don’t give you happy thoughts. But the insecurities that my ocd “latches” on to genuinely ruin my life. Im not even kidding when I tell you that I have been obsessing over this one insecurity EVERY SINGLE DAY for the past 4 years. To try to make myself feel “better”, I have to do compulsions to convince myself that my insecurities aren’t actually as bad as they seem. However, like all compulsions, the relief is always temporary. I can’t even tell if my insecurities are as bad as they seem or it’s just my ocd.

Anyways has anybody else experienced this? If yes, how did you fix it? I have tried everything and I have been struggling for years. The only thing I haven’t tried is telling my therapist because im too scared to focus on my insecurities since it’s a sensitive topic for me.

(Canada) I would love to hear your experiences of how its like being a mental health OT

Im currently a student exploring career options in psychology/health. Im interested to hear about your experiences with mental health OT. Would you say the salary is good in Canada, specifically Ontario? Financial stability is one of my highest priorities. Is the work-life balance good? How does a normal day look like? Are there flexible hours? I would love to hear insight from any OTs, especially if you’re from Canada!

(CAN) Is studying psychology worth it?

Im currently a junior in high school, going into my senior year. My whole life I have been really interested and passionate about psychology. However, the closer I am getting to graduating, the more uncertainty I have started to feel about my career. I have never truly considered any other fields and psychology was the only field I really saw myself in. Unfortunately, I have been having many doubts because many people say that psychology is a useless degree and won’t get you anywhere. I am not clueless and fully aware that to get an actual well paying job in psychology, you need to get your masters or phD. I know that the path to becoming a clinical psychologist is very long and difficult. Trust me, I have done so much research about my choices. Anyways, my main questions are:

1. Is it generally worth it getting a BA in psychology? Or is it better for me to choose a more “safer” major?

2. Even if I do decide to pursue psychology in undergrad, how realistic is it that I will be able to get my masters and phD? Since the pathway to clinical psychology is very long and rigorous, how do I know that I am even smart enough to go through with it? Could it be a waste of time and money?

I am dealing with a lot of stress and anxiety about my future. I am really scared that the path I will choose will negatively affect my future. Even if I do pursue psychology, the careers that I would want to go into, like clinical psychology or neuropsychology , require phDs and are very competitive to get into. I’m worried that I am not even smart enough to be able to pursue it and will end up wasting my time and money (In grade 11, I have high 80s and 90s). Anyways, please let me know what I should do. Hearing from people in clinical psychology or that have pursued any careers in psychology would be extremely helpful.
