Part 2 of Things i found out being in food wholesale and F&B.

This is a 3 in 1. Grocery store special.

Pre-marinated meats sold at alot of grocery stores are made from meats that have passed the best by date or sell by date.

Sushi that contains raw seafood/sashimi is upcycled into a cooked item and sold the next day. (Dont know if still being done till today)

The flower crab you buy is probably from Pakistan and not local even tho they tell you its freshly caught.

——————

I think the pre marinated meat most people will know by now that they actually use the meat that has reached its sell by date. When they add a marinade they can extend this shelf life by 3 days sometimes 4. Some grocery stores do use fresh meat but alot use the old meat. You can tell which use the old meat as it would be a few pieces marinated. If you buy this, youre eating meat that has been “renewed”. For some reason my friends like to buy it cause they said they dont know how to marinate meat themselves.

You know how some supermarkets sell sushi, sashimis, onigiri etc. Usually they put on a discount sticker to sell most of it off but sometimes you may see sashimi without the sticker. I was informed that stuff like sashimi and the salmon from salmon nigiri can be upcycled into onigiri or rolls and sold the next day hence why he doesn’t discount those items. They would take the raw salmon off the rice, throw the rice and cook the raw fish with the other trimmings they saved and add mayonnaise and then use it to make the filling for onigiri etc. This way instead of selling it discounted at cost, they now earn a little more by upcycling. Now, i learnt this in 2019 from the person that makes the sushi for the grocery store. . I do not know if this practice is still done today. That being said, this is actually safe to do and not really an issue but i think not many knew this.

Boring one but alot of my friends didnt know this and thought they were eating local freshly caught blue swimmer crab. Telling me flower crab sucks the flavour isnt good etc. If you ever buy flower crab from from supermarkets, you probably would think it was local right? As supermarkets like to market as fresh local seafood. But its probably defrosted flower crab from pakistan. We import so much of it. We have way more pakistani flower crab than local in storage. Local one mostly go to fresh markets. And these pakistani ones are really hit or miss, mostly miss. Buffets use them as they cost less than rm1 each. Usually no meat, meat started breaking down and mushy or smell like ammonia. Real fresh locally caught flower crab is really good but of course with a way bigger price tag.

Exposing a secret many shops hide from you as a F&B WS distributor

How many of you like smoked duck breast? Probably alot right? Its so close to bacon that its used as a alternative for bacon here. Unfortunately since we started importing smoked duck breast from china precovid, alot of restaurants haven’t been honest with customers.

Many places claim their smoked duck breast is “homemade”, its not… They are using the cheapest smoked duck breast from china and selling it as homemade premium smoked duck breast. In reality all they do is defrost it, pan fry the skin and place in oven to heat through. Turned out after speaking to some of the owners, they said this is why they tell you its homemade in house premium smoked duck breast. “Smoked inside the oven” as waiter says. Just because they pan seared it in the shop and finish heating it in the oven they call it homemade. Thats not honest is it

I supply these shops and i sit inside looking at their menu to see if theres stuff they use that i carry. So i look at items and prices. I noticed a shop had their homemade smoked duck breast selling for 60 but their pan sear salmon at 48. I just thought to myself, a 220g piece of smoked duck breast cost rm4+. Rm20-22 a kilo wholesale. I supply like multiple 10kg cartons at a time so they are going through ALOT of it. My aunt ate the homemade smoked duck breast at one of the shops and told me wow their homemade smoke duck is very good. I said er i supply the smoked duck they just reheat it and put it on top the mashed potato. Her reply was HARHHH.

Do you guys feel deceived or cheated if you found out their homemade smoked duck breast came from a pack and all they did was defrost and pan sear it? I emphasise on the word homemade because this term is used too vaguely. Why isnt the word homemade used on other food items like their pasta and fried chicken etc. Why do they only mention homemade for the smoked duck that comes pre cooked in a bag? I find this suspicious. Is it because they know its from china and are afraid if customers know its from china they wont order it? Please leave your thoughts below.

All fish died while doing house renovations and repainting. Caused by paint?

This tank been running 3 years. Have stable fish in there. No corals. This tank is in the ground and i have another one above it. All the fish in the tank below died but the fish in tank above are fine. Tanks are at my porch, the workers were pressure washing paint off the walls and spaying the floor down as it was covered in paint. I told them to be careful around the fish tanks the boss said yes they will hand scrape the old paint on the roof and walls around the tank so nothing gets in the water. When they were washing the paint off the walls about 10ft away the water was white from the old paint. The worker sprayed this white water that was all over the floor with the pressure washer in the direction of my tanks because the drain was in that direction. Then yesterday they started painting the walls around. Then all the fish in the bottom tank died overnight. Coincidence or actually caused by the paint/old milk paint water they were spraying on the floor.

Bottom tank pretty sure got some of the dirty old paint water they were washing off with pressure washer. Dont think the splashing made it up to the top tank height only the bottom tank.

Illegal construction/renovation workers?

Neighbor is doing renovations and right now i just saw 6 of the workers panic and run out while i was cleaning my porch. They are indonesian workers so i dont understand much except for them saying ‘ada polis belakang nanti kacau’ to the neighbor uncle before they put on their helmets and sped off on their motos. Im guessing they are living here illegally or dont have valid permit or something since they panic and left very quickly once their boss alerted them to the police in my neighbourhood. Spoke to one of the workers last week he said hes been doing renovation here since before covid already. So all this while they just evade police? I thought usually the illegal ones would do jobs in secluded area indoor to avoid detection. These guys doing construction are in the open. Do you think this is illegal workers or some other issue like drug?

Why do these long fin Platinums have solid jet black eyes?

These are bred and sold by a pretty big clownfish breeding company. They are sold as Platinum. But i notice they all have jet black eyes and no orange iris like perculas have. Since platinums are perculas, why do these have solid black eyes?

At first i was thinking i could soak them in the spicy pickled bamboo shoot juices from the snack packs i get but now im not too sure if my idea would work. Can these be eaten as is out of the pack or what is the best method to prepare these?

Cats poop starts normal but the last bit/piece is always moist?

My 2 year old male neutered cats poop seems to look like this most of the time and im wondering if its a diet issue? The poo starts normal, but the last bit maybe 1-2 inch is always moist. It has shape and holds itself when picked up, but the outer layer is very moist. Imagine you hold a vanilla ice cream cone out in the heat and the outer layer melts a little but when you lick the outer layer off the inside is still some what firm. Recently took him off chicken because he suddenly started having diarrhea. At first vet said looks like bacteria was imbalanced so he gave probiotics. Didnt help much. When chicken was removed the poo went back to normal almost immediately. We suspect he became allergic to chicken just recently. His vet nurse said she thinks hes also allergic to tuna(had diarrhea when he ate tuna based food at the vet). She told us this 1.5 years ago while he stayed at the vet. Thats when we switched to chicken. Then now we think he also cant have chicken based on how he reacted to the elimination of chicken from his diet. I switched to venison but im mixing abit of cod fish wet food in it too. Could it be because of the codfish? I guess i should remove all fish?

My cat cant eat chicken and/or fish?

Looks like my cat is either allergic or sensitive to chicken and/or fish. Was doing an elimination trial 2 weeks back where i slowly removed his old kibble and wet food that contains chicken and tuna with grain free wet food thats made of cod and rabbit. I also bought lamb and rabbit stew chunks to add to the cod and rabbit food because i didnt have alot of the cod and rabbit one. I was giving him about 60% lamb and rabbit chunks and 40% cod and rabbit flavour. His poo actually became normal on this lamb, cod and rabbit diet after weeks of diarrhea and gas. About 5 days ago the lamb and rabbit chunks were pulled off the shelves and i dont have anymore so i had to give my cat full cod and rabbit. Cod is 80% rabbit is 20% of the protein make up for this food. The moment i ran out of the lamb food and fed him 100% cod and rabbit wet food, his stool became soft again albeit its not diarrhea or liquid anymore. The poo also is brown unlike previously when he was eating chicken wet food he would have green diarrhea and still has some form to it which tells me he tolerates this better than chicken diet. He also had gas when eating chicken. The gas went away after i removed chicken.

Anyones cat allergic to chicken and fish? What diet did you switch them to? Im very limited with choices here unfortunately. Vet said doesn’t look like anythings wrong just more bad bacteria than good was seen on the test.
