Booking.com cancelled my stay and won't give my money back – help!

I need some advice. Booking.com is giving me a really hard time, and I don't know what to do anymore.

Here's what happened:

In early May, I booked a place to stay. It was non-refundable, so I paid the full amount right away. The price was really good, so I took the chance.

Then on May 28, I got an email saying the host company shut down. So my booking was cancelled. I tried calling the host, but their phone was dead. No way to reach them.

I waited 3 weeks for my refund. Nothing came.

So I called Booking.com. They said, "Wait 30 days and talk to the host." But the host was gone!

After 30 days, I called again. They said they would contact the host and get back to me. They never did.

I called again a week later. This time, they asked me to fill out a form with my bank statement and payment proof. I sent it. They said I'd get a reply in 48 hours. It's been a week now. Still nothing.

Now the worst part:

The phone number I found on Google – I called it 4 or 5 times, 40+ minutes each time – turned out to be a UK number. I was paying $3 for every minute! So I wasted hours of my time AND a lot of money. I'm so angry.

I'm thinking about filing a credit card chargeback. The property cancelled, not me. Booking.com has all the records. They can clearly see I paid and didn't get my money back. Why can't they just fix this?

Good news – I found a working number!

After a lot of searching, I finally found a free US number that actually works:

This number is open 24/7. If you're in the US, it costs nothing to call. I used it and finally got a real person who actually helped me. They moved my case forward, and now my refund is being processed. Finally!

So if you're stuck in the same mess, don't call any UK number – just use 𝟷 (𝟾𝟺𝟺) 𝟻𝟾𝟽 𝟹𝟺𝟾𝟿. Save it so you don't get ripped off like I did.

One more tip:

If Booking.com keeps ignoring you, call your credit card company and ask about a chargeback. Since the host cancelled and you didn't get a refund, you have a good reason. But do it fast – there's usually a time limit.

Honestly, I'm never using Booking.com again. As soon as I get my money back, I'm deleting my account.
