Where do all the single 40+ folks live…
… and feel at home in their communities? Stuff to do, friends to make, etc?

Looking for recommendations for an Alaska cruise expert TA. Please only recommend if you have experience using them in the past.
I am TIRED of seeing posts from influencers or medical folks on IG that just talk s- about GLP1 users as diet weight-loss hungry individuals. Can we please stop acting like every single person taking a GLP-1 is doing it because society told them they needed to be skinny? That societal message is embedded in everything but that monster isn’t to blame for people finding a treatment that helps a medical condition they have whether it’s diabetes, inflammatory conditions, or a myriad of others. STOP IT. If anything you’re doing exactly what society does to people but the opposite - bullying them into shame about the body changes that happen because they take a medicine. Do you realize that??
I’m sorry you are feeling worse because GLP1s are making the world thinner and it’s making it harder. That’s a different conversation! But figure out a way to say it!
I need to rant about this because I won’t say it to their faces because it won’t matter but maybe if they come on here they’ll think twice.
I’m just so over these posts from healthcare professionals (especially dietitians and eating disorder advocates) who keep posting these incredibly broad, inflammatory takes about GLP-1s with zero nuance.
They’ll say “there’s no judgment if you’re taking one…” and then immediately turn around and imply that the reason people are taking them is because society values thinness over everything else. Really? Because that’s simply not true for a whole lot of people.
Some people are taking them because they have diabetes. Some because they’re trying to prevent it. Some because they’re treating obesity that has very real health consequences. Some have insulin resistance, metabolic disease, sleep apnea, fatty liver, PCOS… the list goes on.
This isn’t about fitting into a size 2 for so many. It’s about treating an actual medical condition.
What frustrates me is that these posts never seem to include that caveat. Ever. If what you really mean is, “I’m talking about people who are already healthy and are taking GLP-1s solely to become thinner,” then say that. Because when you just say “people taking GLP-1s,” you’re talking about all of us. And as someone in healthcare, words matter and YOU KNOW BETTER.
The irony is that these are the very people I used to think would be the safest place to talk about this. The people who advocate against shame. The people who remind us health isn’t one-size-fits-all. Except now they’ve just created a different kind of shame.
It’s not okay to make people treating chronic disease feel ashamed and question life saving medication as long as you frame it as criticizing diet culture.
Listen, you can absolutely criticize unrealistic beauty standards. You can criticize diet culture. You can criticize people chasing impossible ideals. But stop pretending every GLP-1 user belongs in that conversation. You are making your own audience, and probably your friends, super uncomfortable around you.
Trying to decide between Bellmoor or Hotel Rehoboth. Any suggestions from folks who have been recently? I believe these are as luxury as you can get near there.
Ok decided on staying in Santa Monica later this month. Is Shutters still nice? What do you like/dislike in properties around there? This is a follow on on the trip with my niece - so we are looking to enjoy something but also don’t want aged nice hotel that is falling apart vibes, and I read some things that indicate that might be the case…
…for her high school graduation. Where can we stay for a beach girly so she walks away with best trip of her life vibes? I travel chubby always and curious where you all have stayed that you think fits the bill. Surf and sand is one I love but that may be too romantic and she’s already been to Laguna. Thinking maybe Santa Barbara, or Newport Beach area? I think Hotel del might be too much of a hike but I’m open.
Any fab internal medicine doctors near dupont circle? Super picky… don’t have a ton going on but want someone to trust to manage overall health as I age. Mid 40s if that helps.
Purchased a Saatva RX 8 months ago after initially laying on it in the store and loving it there and having a history of lower back issues (L4-S1) thought it would be a good choice. Brought it home and first week was okay - but ever since just getting worse. Numb hands, pain in every position except sleeping on my back, pain when I get up, and tossing and turning all night. I'm even starting to get a pins and needles sensation in my upper right shoulder blade area - which has never been there before.
Prior to this saatva I had a 100% latex bed I hated that caused even more pain than now and was very firm - almost couldn't even sleep in it.
So the question is - should I try a different Saatva mattress under the year exchange program? Any other suggestions on what kind of mattress I might need or what Saatva version of the classic to try?
F this guy and anyone else who would do this absolutely evil shit.
Ladies be careful. Don’t leave your open drink unattended.
I’ve looked at suggestions but some places have closed, etc. I’ll go just about anywhere (although ideally Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, DC) for someone who knows how to cut my hair to make it look fuller. If they know how to do naturally curly-ish girls who straighten their hair all the time, even better.
It may be a fever dream but years ago wasn’t there an app or something where if you wanted to go out you’d see if anyone was up for it? Trivia, whatever. So sick of dating apps and if i see one more meetup.com endorsement… sigh. It’s just that sometimes you feel like chatting and not waiting a month until a formal event with five people.
Anyone know what I’m talking about??
Anyway, part vent, part legit just looking for commiserating. ✌️
