Why does it feel like my iron swing options are basically an over the top slice or hitting half a foot fat?

Apologies for no video, hopefully a description is good enough.

More or less I can find consistency with an OTT swing, but I want to bring my game to the next level. I can shoot in the 80s at 6500 yards at a pretty difficult course near me.

I've been working on hitting a draw with my driver and it's been going fine. There is a fair amount of inconsistency due to the feels being new but I hit the ball decently and it goes far. When everything lines up I can hit over 300 yards with rollout so I have a decent understanding of swing mechanics. It's just not consistent yet.

As far as the irons go, I cast them and come OTT to find consistency. I've been working on dropping my arm into the slot with irons but it just isn't coming as easily as with the driver. I hit the ground FAR behind the ball constantly and it feels like the head of the club is just diving out of my hands into the ground early. I can't even hold it back if I wanted.

Has anyone gone through a similar transition or coached anyone who did? What worked or ended up being the problem?

These are new feels for me only through the last week so I haven't practiced them a bunch yet, but I wanted to get going in the right direction.

MaxFli Tour or Tour X?

First, I know this question has been asked and answered before (I have searched and read the old threads already), and I know I can try them to see which I like. I just want to start a bit of a conversation about these balls.

I've been gaming the Tours since the start of the season. I bought the 2023 version last year at Dick's closeout sale when you could get 5 dozen for $90. I also bought the 2025 Tour 4-dozen box afterwards.

I play a LOT. Like 4-5 rounds a week with range time. I've had massive improvements in my game. I went from 100mph driver swing to 120mph all out, and a very playable 110-115 drive depending on sequencing. I have no other hobbies besides my golf game at the moment because I absolutely love this game so I'm pretty focused.

That being said I'm not sure if I should move to the Tour X now, or stick with the Tour. I went to Dick's to get some balls this week and saw that the Tours were sold out and bought the Tour X instead. I figured it was about time to give them a try.

Is ball selection purely preference or should I just buy the Tour X due to my driver speed now? The fact that they were sold out of the Tours made me rethink which ball I should play. If so many people game the Tour, it must be pretty good, right? However most people don't swing as hard as I do, and I know the X is great off the tee.

My irons are a bit of a work in progress at the moment. I don't compress them well. 7i only goes 165 at 31° of loft, so I feel that my iron game prefers the Tour, but the X is preferred for the drive and around the green for more spin.

About green side spin, I get quite a lot. My instructors have all commented on my lack of rollout when chipping. So the X will add more (allegedly) which may help me place the ball right where I want, but requires more skill to place accurately.

I guess I'm just looking for some general advice about ball selection. I haven't put a lot of thought into it yet because I've just been golfing for about a year, and ball changes were pretty obvious until now. Started with ionomer balls, then moved to Kirkland, then MaxFli Tour 2023, Tour 2025, and now Tour X 2025.

My noobie thoughts on the Devs taking a step back going forward.

I'm a little disappointed in myself for only just getting into the game at the 2.0 release. I bought it almost 10 years ago and just never really gave it time.

Now after almost 2 years of playing the game over 1,000 hours I'm seeing these very sad blog posts about the game reaching its final updates, and I can't really relate to you all who've been here for such a fantastic experience for so long.

Truly, all who have been here have received a once in a lifetime gift. To see your favorite game grow and expand into what Factorio has become must be legendary. To have an amazing game become near perfection over such a long period of time must be an exceptional experience. So many great and popular games are destroyed with monetization tactics and publisher shenanigans, budget cuts, staff layoffs, etc. To sit here and witness the creativity and passion for gaming that these devs have had and for such a long period of time reminds me of video games from my childhood in the 90s. When 3D gaming was just touching the market and genres we take for granted now were being released with new and untested ideas. You'd have exceptional gameplay mechanics being thought of that we still use today as the golden standard.

Morrowind, StarCraft, Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye/Perfect Dark, Super Metroid, Roller Coaster Tycoon, NFL Blitz (Just kidding).

Factorio is among these greats as the greatest simulation game of all time. It will remain here forever. It is truly a timeless masterpiece.

Whatever the devs move on to create in the future will certainly be worth my attention. I have no doubt that the team behind this game has the perfect blend of creativity, problem solving, morality, and passion for development to create multiple masterpieces in our lifetimes. I'm here for it.

I'm looking for some input with modifying my club setup.

I'm an avid golfer. I haven't been playing for a long time but I do play all the time (weekly: 9-hole league, walking 18 3-4 times with light warmup, 1-2 range sessions). I've been seeing some great progress with my game. Due to this I was thinking a small bag change might be in order but I'm not sure if it's a good/bad idea or if anything even needs to change at all.

Current bag:

Driver, 3WHL (adjustable), 7W, 4i-PW, 48°10S, 54°12S, 60°6T.

I was thinking of removing the 4i and 54 to replace them with a 56 and 52 wedge.

I do still use my 4i for awkward lies under trees or for half shot runners. However I tend to not reach for the club when on the fairway and instead opt for the 7W for distance. I do hit 4i off the tee so there may be a gap after removing the club unless I can develop a second swing with my 7W, or find a club in distance through my irons.

100-60 yards I usually hit feel shots with my 54. While it gets the job done, I think having a little more precision in that range with a second club could get 1-2 more GIR per round. Instead of having near misses requiring short up and downs, or potentially a tough bunker shot, I'm on the green a bit more often.

Thoughts?

Finally fixed the casting!

Went from a comfortable 105 to a comfortable 120. I've been doing it all wrong this whole time. I finally went to the range for a few days in a row to figure out what the issues were to fix my cast and incorrect wrist position in the downswing. After trying tons of different things and inching closer and closer to a good swing I think it really clicked today.

I haven't hit any balls so I expect an open face and some more fiddling required, but I'm very close to a proper swing as it stands.

I'm having trouble creating lag and not casting

I'm scoring in the 80s pretty regularly right now on a difficult course and I'm starting to feel like it's time to move back to the blues.

Before I do that I really want to find the same distance that some of the skilled golfers I've been paired with are capable of.

I can drive 250, 7i 165, PW 125, but they can drive 300 and hit their PW 135-140. I'm 6'5" 195lbs and they're average height and builds, so I know it isn't for lack of any physicality on my part.

I'm fairly sure this is due to my casting but I just can't break myself out of it mentally. I feel a lot of force in my hands in the downswing and it feels like that's power, even though I know it's me pushing the cast out.

I tried having VERY loose hands with my PW the other day at the range, which allowed me to stop casting but then I felt like I lost control of the club head and I hit fat or thin often. I know practice is needed of course but I don't really know what feels I should be looking for to fix this, and I want to avoid shooting in the dark. I can record myself casting/not casting over and over but what looks good may not be the right feel in the end and I want to avoid making that mistake.

I really want to learn proper lag so I can take the next step in my game!

I also have an issue where my hips get ahead of my arms. I'm not sure if that's relevant so I'm just mentioning it. Not looking to fix it particularly right now.

How do you all deal with particularly long and thick rough?

I keep screwing up the same hole on my home course. They grow the grass out extra in the rough on this hole and it's THICK. It absolutely stops all my club head speed when I try to hit out. I tried clubbing up one club today to compensate but I was still short by quite a bit. I feel like clubbing up more than once is unnecessary and I'm probably approaching the strike incorrectly. I hit very high on the club face as well but I don't hit ground before the ball. It's just that long.

Any tips?

EDIT: Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who replied! I will be taking these tips to the course tomorrow!

Am I crazy or do my IEMs suddenly sound different?

I have some Monarch MkIIs that I bought in 2022. I haven't worn them for a couple months because I have been extremely busy, but today I put them on and I swear I thought I had something stuck in my ear!

I cleaned my ears out and checked the tips for debris but nothing major came out or was cleaned out. So I put them back in and went to do some tests. Using some LR YouTube tests and the Windows LR test I am almost positive that one of the IEMs has become significantly darker. The bass is there but it sounds like a portion of treble is missing. Not sure if it falls within a BA or EST driver internally, but I'm sure that hi-hats and the snare drum sound much different between the two. It's like a veil is covering one up. The noise is there but it's much quieter.

Does anyone know what's going on with my IEMs? What can I do about this?

The "Feed Options" button when scrolling through a user's post history is really annoying!

It constantly reappears and disappears, and the underlying list is not adjusted for the space it takes up. So as you scroll down the list shifts up (button disappears pulling the list upwards), and when you stop scrolling maybe you accidentally shift the list up a couple pixels, causing the button to reappear, which then shifts the whole list down by the width of the button.

This seems like a mistake a student would make. Please fix it.

I've been working on my casting and keeping my head stable. Video of a recent swing during a lesson.

Had a lesson the other day in which I thought we'd be working on my club path (I tend to fade my irons too much as many do) but upon video review it became very obvious I was casting.

It seems that when I swing my head comes up early which combined with the casting actually wasn't too bad of a result. Since I'm tall, even though I'm casting, my 7i went 165-170 for example, and drives are around 250. However, it was just too inconsistent to develop further. Some days I was playing better than bogey golf, others I was struggling badly with multiple doubles and triples.

Anyway, right now my homework is to keep my head down and really focus on rotating my torso around my spine without lifting my head before impact. However, this has exacerbated my casting issue.

My coach gave me a clicky wrist tool (Wrist-X) that clicks if I lose my wrist angle and start to cast, but I'm honestly amazed that pros have between 55-65° of trail wrist flex at impact! How TF do they generate so much power without unhinging their wrists?

It makes me feel like I'm missing something fundamental with my wrist action, but I don't know what. I know not having a swing video makes this a difficult question to answer so I'm sorry about that. I will have one on my profile later today.

I have a 9800X3D, G.Skill 6000 CL26, and Gigabyte X870E Aorus Master.

Recently upgraded to F13b and suddenly my old OC settings have started having system freezes in games, and making errors in OCCT CPU+RAM extreme stability test.

To be completely honest I probably didn't give the original OC the attention it deserved to be completely stable, so it may have just been good enough for 10 minutes in OCCT and gaming. The old settings lasted about 3-5 minutes in OCCT with the new BIOS before throwing an error so I have restarted my OC. I'm hoping someone can provide some guidance with my numbers so I know what's happening behind some results. I feel like maybe the RAM is throwing errors to the CPU resulting in core errors during CPU+RAM tests.

I have a full custom water loop with 3x360 radiators cooling the CPU.

CPU settings:

SMT disabled

SVM Disabled

Global C-state Control Disabled

PBO Limits Motherboard

PBO Overdrive Scalar 5x

Core +200

Core optimizer - went from -15 all cores before BIOS update to now throwing errors after 20 minutes in OCCT at -10. I ran stable OCCT CPU+RAM Extreme for 45 minutes at -5.

RAM: EXPO Enabled, no other changes. Running RAM stability test throws errors with stock EXPO settings once it reaches 54C. I added some voltage to reduce errors. Stock EXPO VDD and VDDQ were 1.41v, I changed to 1.415v. It's been stable during the CPU+RAM test for 45 minutes at 1.415v and 56C.

The odd thing is my CPU hovers around 73C in OCCT, with peaks at 80C. The wattage hovers between 118-120W, but I thought the OC would have more wattage? I am not sure if I'm thermal throttling. In games it hits 5425MHz, but OCCT usually runs 5225-5275MHz.

It seems I'm stable now with -5 all cores and 1.415v on the RAM. In BIOS the ram is set to 1.415v but next to the setting it says 1.425v. Am I feeding it 1.415 or 1.425v?

Thanks for any help.

Been golfing since last June. I've had some great progress in that time.

I got to a wonderful position last month where I was compressing my irons beautifully. You could hear the spin off the face on every shot. My 48° went from 105 carry to 115-120, and I obliterated my 7i to around 180 from 165 with a perfect ball flight that started mid and rose up high due to spin.

Now I can't even hit a ball at the range. Fat, thin, hozzle, hozzle, hozzle, FUCKING HOZZLE. I am a grown ass man and genuinely felt like I might cry the other day.

What can I do to find my swing again?
