Oh, boy…post surgery gets better, right?

I was very wrong in thinking once that once Ray (Morkie/ShihTzu mix, 8 months) got out of his neutering surgery in a healthy state I could relax.

He came home very sleepy and kind of groggy. About an hour and a half later it was like a switch flipped. He was back to his normal self. We’ve made provisions for any licking with a donut collar and a recovery suit, but his return to puppy hyperactivity so soon shocked me.

He’s always had a ramp for the couch, so we thought we were prepared. Boy were we wrong. To be clear, he is very welcome on the couch. We actually want him on the couch. But he has to use the ramp or wait for us to help him. I can’t believe it, but tonight he’s already jumped up or down 3 times. I know that sounds so irresponsible of us, but we put up blocks and he slipped between. He has a crate, and we will be using it for resting and sleeping. We also now have placed a playpen of sorts in the living area.

My real concern is I simply can’t imagine 2 weeks of trying to tamper his energy. I REALLY don’t want to medicate him, but in his paperwork it is discussed for very energetic dogs, a mild sedative for a little while may be considered. Again, I don’t want to do this, but may need to go this route.

I don’t know that I’m looking for advice as much as just reassurance that we’ll get through this. It’s been 18 years since we last had to recover from an altering surgery. Please tell me how you managed. less

What do you mean “fixed”?? You said I was PERFECT!!

He was so excited to go bye-bye this morning. It broke my heart to leave him at the vet for his neuter and removal of 2 baby teeth. He’s out of surgery, did great, but they want to be with him for the first 3 hours of recovery. I’m SO GLAD that it is over!❤️❤️❤️ I can’t wait to get him home and get him recovered.

Ray didn’t get compliments today, lol

We’re so used to the groomer complimenting Ray that I smugly walked in today and asked, “How’d he do?” She said, “Wellllll….we are in the teenage boy era right now and he was a little feisty today. He nipped at the clippers several times.” Little stinker. 🙄

Am I the only one?

I prefer Ray’s hair a bit on the shaggy side. He’s 8 months old and been to the groomer twice and has an appointment for next Monday. I think he’s so cute when he’s not as “polished”. He’s not brushed here because we’d just dried off from being out in the sprinkles. He’ll definitely need the groom in a week, and I don’t want her to leave him any longer because we’re in a warm summer climate with humidity. Our groomer does an amazing job; I just love this stage of his cut.

I’d love to see any other babies with a more scruffy look!❤️🥰

Painting help

Does anyone know anything about this painting? I’ve tried Google reverse image search with no help. Zooming in distorts it too much because it’s screen shot.

How to check shipping info through Amazon?

Four months in and I’ve not been as happy with BarkBox as I had hoped I’d be. We had one toy that I’ve been thrilled with because our puppy loves it (Pea Pods from the farm theme) but the rest he’s DESTROYED and he’s a tiny puppy. Now it feels like it’s been almost 2 months since a delivery. When I check in with support, they’ve acted like I’m an idiot and saying “shipping is the first two weeks of the month”. Support also says I’ll receive an email from Amazon when it ships but I’ve never received an email when it ships. I don’t know if I started mid cycle and it’s caught up, but it has been a LONG time since he’s received a bag. When I check my subscription via BarkBox, it takes me to Amazon and says that my last delivery was over 45 days ago so they don’t have any more info. That tells me that we’re going into it being 2 months since a delivery.

Barkbox tracking says “fulfilled” but is there a way to go through my Amazon Prime to see anything new? I’m bummed that we’ll probably cancel. Ray loves getting the bags, but the price isn’t worth what we get unfortunately. 🤨

GPS collars?

Has anyone used a Fi collar or other GPS collar?

We have Ray, 7 month old Morkie/ShihTzu mix that weighs about 5.5 lbs. He is our whole world. We’ve been so lucky with how well he is doing. He’s happy with his crate at night, has been potty “trained” (controlled-we take him out often-no accidents in months) and basic trainjng is working well. Our only complaint is that he doesn’t eat as much as I’d like and we’re constantly anxious he’s getting what a puppy needs.

We had a sweet ShihTzu/Poodle mix for 17 years and she was so lovely and I don’t even remember training her to NOT go out the front door. In fact, if we were leaving through the front door, we had to really work to persuade her out.

Ray is our little adventure seeker. We had a very close call once and I about had a heart attack. Now we put in a gate at the front hallway; we can step over it to go to that door. We have a huge, fenced in back yard and we take him out with his harness and leash because our back yard butts up to woods and the fence back there has wider slats. Also, our area is known for birds of prey.

All of this to say, it would be unusual for Ray to get away from us. I still worry though. He is so fast!! He is chipped; that’s assuming someone will actually look for the owner. We have two separate acquaintances that had little dogs stolen; one from a fenced yard, one from electric fence area. I realize if someone wanted to keep him they could easily remove a gps collar. Anyway, sorry to ramble, but has anyone had a good experience with one vs another? Thoughts on them? He doesn’t wear a collar currently inside the house, but his harness is always on when outside/away from home and it has his vaccination tags and ID tags. Preferably he’d wear the gps collar at all times except sleeping in his crate or bed with us.

Ironic that the pillow saving his spot needs altered because the puppy will destroy those tassels!!

u/hlmoore96 — 2 months ago

Our dog will ALWAYS have a seat on the couch! However, we can’t leave the tassels on because he will DESTROY anything with decorations or things hanging off. He’s only 6 months old, he’ll get better. ❤️❤️
