I was very wrong in thinking once Ray got out of surgery (neuter) healthy I could relax.
He came home very sleepy and kind of groggy. About an hour and a half later it was like a switch flipped. He was back to his normal self. We’ve made provisions for any licking with a donut collar and a recovery suit, but his return to puppy hyperactivity so soon shocked me.
He’s always had a ramp for the couch, so we thought we were prepared. Boy were we wrong. To be clear, he is very welcome on the couch. We are fine with him being on the couch. But he has to use the ramp or wait for us to help him. I can’t believe it, but tonight he’s already jumped up or down 3 times. I know that sounds so irresponsible of us, but we put up blocks and he slipped between. He has a crate, and we will be using it for resting and sleeping. We also now have placed a playpen of sorts in the living area.
My real concern is I simply can’t imagine 2 weeks of trying to tamper his energy. I REALLY don’t want to medicate him, but in his paperwork it is discussed for very energetic dogs, a mild sedative for a little while may be considered. Again, I don’t want to do this, but may need to go this route.
I don’t know that I’m looking for advice as much as just reassurance that we’ll get through this. It’s been 18 years since we last had to recover from an altering surgery. Please tell me how you managed.
This is Beverly - she's a 5 year old adult rescue. She was a breeder release and I have no info about how many puppies she has had or what her life was like - but she has quickly become my retirement buddy and constant companion
He was so excited to go bye-bye this morning. It broke my heart to leave him at the vet for his neuter and removal of 2 baby teeth. He’s out of surgery, did great, but they want to be with him for the first 3 hours of recovery. I’m SO GLAD that it is over!❤️❤️❤️ I can’t wait to get him home and get him recovered.
Here’s our new gal, Winnie! She’s 10.5 weeks. She’s doing really well. She walked in day 1, made herself at home, and acted like she knew exactly what she was doing. She’s not picking up on potty training very well, but we’ll get there. She also likes to chase the chickens, but she’s learned quick that it’s a no and stops when told. I stay at home with my 2 sons, who I homeschool, so she gets lots of love all day.
We had another morkie, Honey, that we also got as a puppy. She passed just shy of 4 years old from 2 copperhead bites. I’ll never get over her traumatic loss. We weren’t sure if we should get another dog, but we really missed having one around. After getting Winnie, my son said it was a good idea and I agree. We didn’t divide our love, just multiplied it.
My daughter wanted peaches, and I did a pretty large order. My morkie is a bit over a year, and she got into one of the bags, dug a peach out for herself, and thinks it’s a new ball to add to her collection. Love her so much. 💕😇
Hey Morkie parents, this is Logan he is almost one year old! (July 13th)
He is a MASSIVE chewer lol, like every toy we have given him he can destroy in a matter of seconds so he is small but mighty (11lbs)
Does anyone have some recommendations for a heavy chewer that's a small dog? Alot of aggressive chewing toys are made for big dogs mostly so looking for something medium sized for him to play with that isn't a bully stick.
He loves bully sticks but he can only have two a week. We have tried yak chews as well and he doesn't like them.
Any suggestions would be appreciated ☺️
I’ve been a fluff on my Maltese side for too long, I want the Yorkie cut!
He is insane but he is a good boy
We’re so used to the groomer complimenting Ray that I smugly walked in today and asked, “How’d he do?” She said, “Wellllll….we are in the teenage boy era right now and he was a little feisty today. He nipped at the clippers several times.” Little stinker. 🙄
Last week i caught my Doky standing on the coffee table with My sandwich. The second we made eye contact, they dropped it, titled their head, and looked at me like / was the one interrupting something importante. Ivouldn't even be mad; i ended up guving them a tiny piece anyway
I never met a dog who loves to soak in warm water and get his hair blow dried as much as this guy.
