Postpartum Hormones

I’m 3 months postpartum and 2 months weaned from breastfeeding. Has anybody else dealt with going down for bed at night and not being able to fall asleep because your heart is racing and you have insomnia? I’ve also had cyclical hunger spells that are insatiable.

I just got my thyroid checked (looks good) - about to get my hormones tested by my functional medicine practice because my doctor believes that I could be low in progesterone and having estrogen dominance after giving birth and stopping breast-feeding.

Can anyone speak to their hormones being off and what type of symptoms that caused in your bodies?

Thanks y’all!

Postpartum insatiable hunger - not breastfeeding

Postpartum insatiable hunger not breastfeeding anymore, has anyone experienced anything like this?

I’m almost 3 months postpartum and have been dealing with episodes of truly excessive/insatiable hunger that I’ve never experienced before. This is not a regular hunger it’s the kind where you feel panicky like fight or flight mode starving.

I’m curious if anyone else has gone through something similar postpartum, especially with thyroid or hormonal changes.

(I have Hashimoto’s and take Armour Thyroid)

My timeline: May 11 gave birth to my son

June 22 excessive hunger, overwhelmed June 27 done pumping after a month PP June 28 feeling back to normal

3 weeks normal

July 9-13 first period postpartum July 17 excessive hunger again it’s nonstop (4 days after my period) July 20 2026 returned to normal

2 weeks normal

August 2-3rd feeling insatiable hunger, hot and anxious August 2-7 second period August 7 went from 45->30mg armour thyroid August 9 still have hunger but better since med switch

My blood sugar has also been normal when I’ve checked it during these episodes.

The weirdest part is how episodic this is. I can go weeks with completely normal appetite and then suddenly have days where my brain/body acts like I haven’t eaten, even when I’m physically full.

My doctor is also checking my postpartum hormones later this month because of the cyclical nature of the hunger spells.

Has anyone experienced this kind of extreme hunger postpartum?! Especially with Hashimoto’s / postpartum thyroid changes, returning periods, or weaning from breastfeeding/pumping? Did you ever figure out what was driving it and when did it settle down?
