Brought Tugboat to work today!

He was such a hit! I brought him in just for one class period at the end of the day (I teach at a middle school) Taught them about his species, deimatic display and biomagnification. I also brought a few outfits for him to wear. Our school is “the pirates”, so we had to dress him up as our mascot. He did such a good job as a little educational ambassador for the afternoon.

Rescued a tokay from a hoarder today…

She has never been interacted with or handled by humans, her food was always just thrown into her enclosure. Her enclosure was never cleaned so it is covered in poop and dead bugs. She is terrified and angry. And I’ve never owned a tokay! I have a crestie, leopard gecko, and a blue tongue skink but she is definitely next level for me. How do I give her the best life possible? Working on getting her all set up in my house and cleaning her enclpsure (can’t get her into a 120 gallon until later this month, for now she’s in a 50 gal vertical tank). Any tips on slowly beginning to gain her trust? Also any ideas why her tail is forked?

She is my 3rd rescue lizard, but this one definitely feels the most difficult so far. We named her Amara <3

Why does Tugboat want to be a hamster so bad?

He genuinely could do this for 20 minutes… also my hamsters digbox corner is so messy she likes to fling everything around ignore that LOL

Couldn’t find him for like 15 minutes. Turns out he discovered where all my roaches are.

He’s discovered where I keep his favorite snacks…. Silly tugboat

Tugboat getting buff in jail

I actually was trying to block him from going INTO this area, but clearly that didn’t work out. Tugboat goes where he pleases

Leopard gecko hasn’t eaten in 8 days

We got siren about a month ago now. She was definitely a little chunky when we got her, and she took about 2 weeks to adjust to living with us. She is now a very happy gecko and is super sociable. However we have only been able to get her eat once with us so far, which was about 8 days ago.

As I said I expected about a 2 week adjustment for eating when we got her, and she also has a very successful shed during that time. On the 2 week mark to the day, she ate 2 crickets. this was 8 days ago.

We try to feed her every night when she is the most active and she just closes her eyes from it or turns her head away. We’ve tried dubias, crickets and wax worms. Are we just panicky new leopard gecko owners that need to calm down, or is this abnormal?

If it is how can I encourage her to eat, are we doing something wrong?

Meet Tugboat

He is exceptional at getting into places I didn’t think he could get into, and then pretending like he’s stuck (he is not). I’ve only had him for a week and he’s gone from hissing constantly and hiding when I walked into the room, to choosing to come up to the glass and walk out onto my hand and explore my pet room! Happy about all the progress he’s made. Also I’ve never had a reptile with stinkier poop LOL
