First-time desk build: ST Wood Screws vs. M-Type Threaded Inserts for an Acacia Solid wood top

I’m working on my very first standing desk build with zero DIY experience and could use some advice on which hardware approach I should take. I am planning to move in 1–2 years, so disassembling the desk in the future is a factor, but I also want to keep things simple and avoid messing up.

Option 1: ST Wood Screws - Pre-drill small pilot holes with a tiny drill bit and screw directly into the wood.

Option 2: M-Type Threaded Inserts - Drill larger holes into the wood, thread in metal inserts, and bolt the frame down with M-type machine screws.

these are the two options suggested by AI.

  1. what do you all suggest for a beginner? which is easy and which is suitable for removing the table top and screwing again after moving. Please share your experiences.

  2. What length of screws you all suggest for a 1.5 inch Acacia Solid wood.

Thanks

Beyond the pitch. Nothing but respect

We need to look past the final score and see the human being. Leading a team to the finals while coping with a father's illness is an incredible mental and emotional burden. He did so much for the nation under the worst personal circumstances. People simply say lost the match but won our hearts, but this is the one time that phrase actually carries profound, real-world meaning. Unfortunately, some fans are letting toxicity overshadow a truly heroic effort.

Need feedback on front & back overhang clearance!

I'm in the middle of planning a custom standing desk setup and wanted to get some feedback on my frame placement and overhang distances before I start drilling into the tabletop.

- Front & Back Overhang: Should I center the frame front-to-back (leaving 3" overhang on both sides), or push it further back to leave a larger overhang in the front for extra knee room?

- Side Overhang: Is 3–4 inches per side ideal for a 60" block, or does a different side clearance work better for stability on a TopSky frame?

- Also how is the acacia solid wood block from Wayfair ? Let me know if you recommend something else in the $250 - $300 range

My future setup:

Desktop: 60" W x 30" D x 1.5" Thick Solid Acacia Butcher Block (Shipped - link)

Frame: TopSky Dual-Motor Standing Desk Frame (Delivered - link)

Thank you!

My expectations before the World Cup… and how they kept changing during it

Knowing Messi would be playing in this World Cup, my expectations were honestly zero. I’m like “The man has won it all”. I wasn’t thinking about trophies or legacies. I just wanted to watch my fav player play the game one more time. That’s it.

Then Unc drops a hattrick and suddenly I’m in my 30s thinking, “Who’s the unc now lol.” I watched the next two groupstage matches with the same mindset, “enjoy whatever is left”.

When I saw they were going to face Cape Verde, I genuinely thought, “This might be his last game. Just enjoy it.” Cape Verde hadn’t lost to anyone in their group, their defending was solid, their keeper was ridiculous . I was expecting them to drag it to penalty shootout. I was mentally prepared for Argentina’s exit.
But the intensity of the match, the equalizer, the nerves, it all pulled me right back in. Same thing happened with Egypt. I kept thinking, “These guys can’t be playing like this again,” but they did.

Then came the Swiss match. For some reason, my expectations shifted. I found myself thinking, “Please just win this one.” Because if they reached the semifinals, win or lose, I’d get to see the GOAT play all eight games. That alone felt like a great gift.

And today, watching Spain beat France, my greedy human brain kicked in: “Let’s go Messi, one more final.” At this point, I genuinely have no expectations about him winning another trophy. If he wins, I’m happy. If he loses, I’m still happy, because I got to see the GOAT play every single match.

That’s where my expectations stand right now.

Bonus expectation: I don’t want Mbappe scoring in the third place match. I want Messi to get one more and take the Golden Boot.

Let me know if you all feel the same way or if your expectations went in a completely different direction.
